The next time there's a thread in the Suggestions Forum for a reciever-side Email filter that will set you to "only recieve from friends/G-Friends/SG-mates/etc." put in your support.

This is the answer. (imo)

(do not use Spam for emails with no name as that can cause difficulties when the system tries to ignore someone who no longer exists)

[/ QUOTE ]

That's easily proven false. If you use the spam button on an "empty" name, you'll /ignore the global name that was attached to it. No difficulties attached to it. The empty names are not cases of the account getting banned, it's a case of the spammer deleting the character after sending out the spam.

It's funny, I took a break from the game for about a month and when I came back I decided to log in all my toons and move them to different Day Job spots. Something like 50+ toons over all the servers. Needless to say, this is no small chore.

Anyway, while going through the different servers I started noticing that my e-mail boxes were empty. I started really keeping track after noticing this and by the time I was done I found I had a grand total of 5 spam e-mails.

I don't know if the spammers just don't like me or if it's the fact that as soon as I make a toon and get them into the tutorial I hide from searches that keeps me from getting spammed. Whatever it is, I'm glad I don't have to put up with that crap.

Sounds to me like hiding from /search helps keep you off the mailing lists.

Have we gotten an answer on why this is not being done/implemented? Is there some system limitation that prevents it?

Also, don't forget to add that you should only recieve emails from people on your OWN friends list. Otherwise spammers could just /friend everyone and still spam the heck out of us.

That's generally the assumption. That it would be the recipient's, not the sender's friend list.
Otherwise it would be useless.

There's the "filter by keywords within the Email" idea, but that's generally dismissed. Why?
Changing website names, modifying the advertised website's name within the email by substituting numbers, adding spaces, etc.
Y'know, like "Wanna buy V1A_Gr4?".

I am getting WAY WAY WAY too much spam from [censored] and other websites trying to sell me influence and it's really getting out of hand. The other day, I let my toon stay offline for 2 days and came back to find like 24 e-mails from these people. I am really tired of having to delete these e-mails and put up with this harassment.

Is there a way to disable my e-mail nobody else e-mails me or to put a stop to these harassing e-mails?

[/ QUOTE ]

Never empty your inbox. It will fill up and the emails will stop. That's been my approach.

The problem with this is you get a full list and you start cleaning the list of people you REALLY wanted to ignore. This is a problem, period ... no one should have to spend time hiding or tweaking an account to resolve this. The email system is made pretty much useless until the solution is implemented.

In some cases possibly, but the majority of "empty" labeled emails are actually "empty" because the user has already been banned.

If you do try to global ignore an account that no longer exists it can cause problems (I've been booted several times because of this in the past). That's why it is best to Delete "empties" and Spam "names". That's what the GMs told me at least.

Could we just not get a Delete empty button?
or a delete all button, I took about 3 months off cause I went back to EQ to remind me why I left.

When I got back I had tons of spam 90% from "empty" they need to have way to delete en mass, we are big boys and girls here so we should be able to manage our email just like in the real world. the ability to seslect more than one, purge mailbox, or just to delete any email with XXXXXXX.com in the body would be welcome.

Yeah a delete-all button would suit most folks I think.

I just take one quick sweep to see whether any of mine need Spam buttoning, and generally there's one but sometimes none. I'm pretty sure it DOES mean that the account's been banned, but like blackavaar has said, if you spam it it might cause a problem if you hit one on Empty. The global system is wonky enough without confusing it more lol.

Not sure if it's been suggested before, but why can't we just get a function where we have the option to only get emails from people that are on our friends or global friends lists and our Supergroup? I mean, I can do it on most forum software, why not on the game right?

Yes, it has been suggested before. Multiple times in the Suggestions Forum, and mentioned in this thread.
And I support that suggestion then, now and in the future.
