Help with Volcanic Badge

According to City Info tracker, you can farm the Magmite bosses in Eastgate Heights in the Hollows by using an AoE attack where there's smoke on the mountain. I've been going all over the mountain, and while I haven't seen smoke, I have seen fire. However, when I use my AoE attack (Fire Rain), nothing seems to happen. Is there something I'm missing?

it's not AOE It's PBAOE like lightning field or hot feet
you turn those toggles on and walk over them, they should pop
hope this helps

So, if my toon doesn't have a PBAoE power, I'm pretty much out of luck to solo them?

You could use your second build to get Whirlwind from the Speed power pool.

I got the Whirlwind, but no luck on getting them to appear. I think my initial thought of those firespots being them was wrong, since I whirled around all around those spots, but no luck. I'm going to give them a rest for a bit, unless someone else has a better idea of where they might be.

No, Nitra is mistaken. Any AoE damage that you are able to fire off will work. The problem is that you can't target the Magmites while they are underground.
1. You can use any PBAoE, click or a toggle.
2. You can use a location-based AoE (Ice Storm, etc).
3. You can pull another enemy (like a troll, or Pumicite) over the area then use a targeted AoE.
4. Much overlooked method that I used to get Coralax (who hide under the water) - use Ouroboros to exemp to a level where they will aggro on you. I used an Ouro mission to exemp to level 9 (Negotiator badge mission) and strolled through the river. For the Magmites, you'd want to be around 15. Level 9 would work, but you would be so toast. If you have enough people (3), you could use the Positron TF to exemp all of you to 15.

P.S. What server are you on? I can definitely help on Infinity. I think I have a level 15 on Guardian. I don't think I have anyone at the right level, or with the right powers, on other servers.

Edit: I was curious if anything had changed, so I got my ice/SS tank to check what powers could pull them out of the ground. The following all worked:
Chilling Embrace - toggle PBAoE debuff (no damage)
Icicles - toggle PBAoE damage
Foot Stomp - melee PBAoE attack
Ice Storm - location AoE attack

I did notice, though, that I only saw one Magmite. You may need a bigger team to spawn bosses.

You forgot to mention that people can bring a pet (most controllers, dark defenders).

Or bite the bullet and team with a lowbie. I don't understand why people display hatred of teaming for badges.

1) Your post says you're searching on the mountain in Eastgate Heights (the area in the lower right of the zone). If so, the place that you should be looking is Grendel's Gulch (the big pit in the middle).

2) Most advice on hunting Magmites dates from before the Hollows revamp a few issues ago. Nowadays the smoky spots will usually just spawn minions and lieutenants unless you've got at least a small team together (just 2 or 3 people will do it).

Good luck!

Veeery rarely they will actually spawn a magmite lord. However, I always found more magmite lords in groups laying on top of rubble than underground.

[/ QUOTE ] Big areas on fire is not what you are looking for. You aren't really looking for big smoke clouds or anything either... just smaller smoldering areas on the ground: (Picture)

Tip: Since the Hollows revamp, they seem to be harder to find, and running through just now.. I didn't find many either. I suggest just running the Cavern Trial and farming the last room in the mission for this badge. Its much quicker.. especially if you have stealth/tp on the team. The Trial itself can be done in less than 10 minutes and then you can clear the room in whatever amount of time you want and then repeat the process.

It's not the a dislike of teaming, it's the hours that I'm on that really don't allow regular teaming. Generally, if I'm on for a team, it's because I'm doing an STF.

Yeah, I saw a couple of Magmites in Grendel's Gulch today, but that's about it. It's likely, like you said, that I'll have to try and get team together on the weekend sometime.

When I16 goes live, team up with someone who can get this mission. Set the difficulty to 8 man team/cr 2 to 4 and beat the crap out of all the bosses. Do not complete this mission. Rinse and repeat.

I've got this mission saved on a lvl 50 that never went back and finished the story arc so I can open it up for you on Infinity.

Put those anchor tells to good use! When someone asks you to fill for their team, say "sure, no problem, but I'm not leaving when the map is set. I'm staying on to help spawn magmites." I did this when trying to get the badge, and it did genuinely appear to get the job done.

Since the Hollows revamp, this badge is definitely a lot harder to get, though it may become easier with I16. I did attempt to do it through the Cavern trial at one point also, but found it difficult to generate interest in sticking around afterwards for them.

The other night hubby and i were teamed trying to get this badge. Lvl 50 fire/kin and lvl 50 fire/fire blaster. both had hot feet. in an hour we'd found MAYBE 20 Magmite lords. then a few friends joined team (but didn't enter zone) and we started seeing Lords ALL OVER the place. 12 within the first minute alone. They're laying face down in the ruins above the crater. there are smoking fires down inside the crater that pop them out, but mostly, they were just above ground.

Get a few teammates, preferably the kind who need it too, and just go nutty. It took maybe an add'l 15 minutes to get the last 80 we needed for the badge once we had 3 to 5 people on team.

If you can fly, you can circle the rim of the crater just keepin' an eye open for the ones in the ruined buildings while your partner searches for fires down in the hole. Or vice versa. There's also a nice targetting macro i found on paragon wiki. here's the format for a multi-string find.

/macro find "target_custom_next enemy alive quantum$$target_custom_next enemy alive void$$target_custom_next enemy alive cyst"

instead of quantum, void and cyst, i used Lord (Magmite Lord), Ogre, and Caliban. I knocked out the Regenerator and Volcanic badges superfast. then i edited it for Sorceror, Underboss and Consigliere and took my butt to Indy Port for those badges

It took me a while before I realized this but it's most definitely true. If you're solo you'll very occasionally run across a boss. But if you're on a team as small as 3 people you'll get boss spawns like crazy.

I've found that since the hollows revamp that I have better luck getting the bosses when it is night time vs. daytime in the zone. Set your settings to 8 man team spawn with bosses and go hunting. When I sent my L50 force field defender after that badge I kept Force Bubble on and just flew over the areas. Force bubble would shove them all out of the ground and send them flying. The team I was on then got to practice their skeet shooting
