Scrappers vs. Brutes?

Which would you rather use? Have on a team (Co-Op or otherwise)? Reasons?

Whichever was played by a high quality player!

On a Team with no tank and lots off buffs co op wise...a Brute, they have more base HP, higher Res caps and generally once they've built fury more damage because of fury and they tend to slot 2 acc/1 or 2 end reds and 2 or 3 rech in their attacks, giving them the same base dmg as scrapper without the crits but doing more over time due to the rech in their attacks...add in hasten and IO's and I think Brute, due to there base stats will pull ahead of scrapper and post GR...they will possibly be more desireable on teams then a tanks when on a team.........as long as they take taunt, which leads me back to the scrapper, who can't even start to manage aggro like a Brute, which of the melee classes is just behind a tank.

So just to clarify....on a team, I think a Brute wins out for me over a Scrapper.

I'm going to assume that the same player would be playing either one, so skill is irrelevant.

To play? Brute - I like the Fury mechanic since it adds a minigame while you're charging from spawn to spawn.

To have on a team? First or second melee, Brute - they have a few more hit points and so end up a bit more survivable; the fact that the pseudo-gauntlet will gather mobs around them for AoE carnage is icing on the cake. Past that, Scrapper - yes a Brute can maintain Fury on a team with everything focused on something else, but it'll be a pain and at that point you're just adding damage. Note that I'd rather have a debuffer, Kinetic, or AoE-heavy Blaster over either.

too many variables...

ive seen uber squishy scrappers and brutes
and i've seen ones that can't deal enough dmg to kill EBs...
course there is the occasional awesome one who knows his toon backwards and forwards

I would go with a scrapper then. I find them to generally be more survivable & destructive than a brute. However, the very best brutes can belie that statement.

I prefer to play scrappers, but happily take either. Heck I'd happily take BOTH.

I think that there are enough tradeoffs either way you go that it doesn't really make any difference to me.

Then it doesn't matter too much! If they're good and built for it, and you seem to be in a spot where a tank type would help a lot, a brute would probably be a better choice. Otherwise, I don't think it would matter for any team I was leading.

Rather have a Scrapper.

And never take a brute to replace a tanker when needed.

[/ QUOTE ]

Haha, I see your location is AE...so the point is moot.... Brutes in PvE are better than Scrappers, Just my observation after nearly 4 years of doing both mainly (although I have plenty of 40+ other AT's all my 50's are either Tanks, Brutes or Scrappers)

So with "Support" as the OP suggested I believe overall a Brute is much more preferable to a Scrapper

And if a tank is "Unavailable" a Brute is 1000% more preferable to a Scrapper anyday of the week....due to their Tank style power choices and caps.

Assuming player skill is not counted (as I do have a 50 MA/WP Scrapper that out tanked and bruted most I have teamed with )

Personally, I'd really take either. If I had to choose, I'd take one brute (maybe two), then Scrappers after that (and screw the tanks! ).

The reasoning for that is that Brute's depend on Fury for good damage output (REALLY good damage output...), and holding aggro is the best way to build Fury... having too many Brutes mean they'll just be cutting into each other's Fury. So if you go with one (maybe two) Brutes, and then some Scrappers, you should have the best of both worlds, since you can get one/two Brutes at nearly max Fury, and then the Scrappers can enjoy their Scrapperlock without having to worry about the rest of the team... 'cause that's the Brute's job!

But really, I have no preference... they're both VERY good ATs.

[/ QUOTE ]I'd say in some situations they're better... and in others they're worse. But, IMO, the difference really won't matter 99.9% of the time. And if you're trying to maximize performance to obscene levels... why the hell are you even CONSIDERING anything other than Controllers?

So one persons opinion is not yours....Hussah for individuality. If you disagree with it thats your opinion, one that I happen to disagree with. Taking my "Whole" post you will see that I have played Scrappers that can out Tank/Brute Tanks and Brute, but given the choice where player skill is disregarded Brutes would be more choice, but thanks for the kick in the slats, always needed once in a while hehe

And the bit about location AE....well, after 2 weeks of playing after i14's release I " Personally" decided to leave that place alone, and go back to standard play, but if someone puts it as there location....well....to me and 95% of the pug invites I recieve these days...no matter the server, leads me to believe that powerset choices and AT selection, not to mention skill level and experiance (players not character) do not seem to matter, as it is a pl'ing paradise these days ( without wanting to turn this into another MA sucks thread, as I can't be bothered with that).

So, keep your opinions, I'll keep mine, and if you want to continue the discussion, just PM me instead

Given that you're talking about a WP scrapper, depending on the tank/brute's defense set, that's not that big of an accomplishment...

Fine, you leave it alone. But that doesn't mean that everyone who does use and enjoy it is a PLer. There are plenty of legitimate AE players out there. In fact, the PLers are really the minority. Just an ignorant, obnoxious, and highly visible minority.

back at ya

I already have my Controller's and a few Brutes; I'm gearing up for Rogue and have a couple of melee powerset combos I'm looking to use but before I start leveling either choice (Brute/Scrapper), I was looking to get a little more insight into the two.

The things actually being pointed out are the Brute's higher base HP, higher resis cap and a more consistent high damage output.

Any other differences that should be noted?

Hehe.....well, obviously we're going to have a circular argument here, nice long descriptive replies vrs one line put down, well, I think I'll leave this now, as although 3 yrs ago I would have happily kept on discussing vrs someone such as yourselves, you learn that certain people have no idea about things that it is pointless, no matter how much you wish to, to continue discussing it. That and having 3 kids who continuously ask questions about everything, so have fun and keep on at it

Enemy fire contributes less to generation and maintenance of Fury than the Brute's own attacks. An initial volley will help boost it quickly if it's empty, but then the Brute's own actions take over. With a decent build, Fury is just there for you; it's not dependent on "holding aggro" for a team.
