My motivation has waned
It happens.
Not always at the same level range, depending on many factors.
I recommend taking a break to play an alt for a while.
With me it's less that I lose motivation to play a particular toon and more that I get distracted by a different toon.
Take my Stalker for example, I played him for like a full month mostly solo. Got him up to level 45, and then....
Suddenly decided to play a Master Mind instead
I'll get back to the Stalker eventually...
MMs are so fun though, I can see why you rolled one. Thats who I'm talking about, is my FF/Bot MM.
As soon as I hit 47 I had him decked out in his 50 SO's.
I got my first purple IO at 48 so I'm hoping I'll be able to get a full set of purple IOs and just pay for the mats if i can't farm them.
Reading the wiki though. I've learned that some IO can only be had through the TFs. So that may be something I'll have to do to complete any set.

Last time it was a Scrapper who sat at 49 for months. This time it's a Corruptor who got to 48 one night and then got set aside while I played a Stalker from 7 to 41.
Maybe it's because I still feel that the big Five-O should be somewhat special and want to wait for a good time for it rather than in some random paper mission.

Not me.
I always have a couple of different 'active' characters I'm playing. If I hit a dead spot with one of them, I switch to someone else.
Right now I'm rotating between an experimental level 30 nin/wp stalker (playing him 'casually' to see how much inf he'll make in his career without marketeering), a level 25 mace/inv brute (had a great idea for a character and had to make him) and farming with the Goat.
Different enough gameplay to keep things fresh when I feel like switching it up.

Of all of them, I have to work on motivation to play the VEATs. :P
Generally, I have a good group of folks to play with, so it really "just happens" - look up, notice I'm at 48, mention it and say "let's try to get this one done." If the character's put down for a while, it's because we're working on *other* characters right then.
I completely understand where you are comging from. In WoW, I had a Hunter pre-wotlk that sat at 68 for nearly a year before I had the motivation to finish those last couple of levels. During that time I took a Druid to 70 LOL. How funny is that.
I do so want to unlock that VEAT, I just have the 'so close yet so far away' syndrome currently. I even have a bio and color scheme made up for him just waiting to unlock.

Just ignore nether, I have been for years.
As far as that last couple bars... Grab a task force. You'll ding, it'll be over.

I actually tend to get more excited to play once I get close to 50, since I know my purpled-out build is waiting for me once I get there.
For me the hardest stretch was always 15-22, where enemies start to ramp up in power but just before SO range.
When I first started I posted that exact thing. I was at that pre 22 range and a purple boss had spawned one of those Longbow archers, I forget what his exact name was. Tons of AOE and he kept wiping my bots out. I was very frustrated. For those levels I had to notch the difficulty down in that little level range hell because I had been playing challenge three since about lvl 8 or 10.

you seem to be really confused about the function of public forums.
How shocking.

Right: get on a task force or two. Seriously, you can't go wrong with task forces at that level. 2 bars or 12, it's not gonna matter.

How is asking someone to stay out of a thread on a public forum "polite"?
It's like asking someone you don't like to leave the park. It's not your park, you don't make the rules.
It is more a measure of deluded self importance than politeness.

This.
I don't even have a "main". I didn't understand what people meant when I first started playing and people would say "this is my main". With all the great choices for power combinations and costumes, I can't imagine sticking with just one, or even primarily one, character from 1-50. I'm all over the map. I have characters from level 5-50 and everywhere in between, so I've always got a character to suit whatever mood I'm in.

I sooooo want to unlock the VEAT for my next Main

This is the key. If you didn't want the shiny, you wouldn't care about hitting 50.
Please don't get your first villain to 50 because you're already prepared to throw him away and play something else! That's the lamest reason I can think of to keep playing a character you no longer enjoy.
I strongly suggest finding a different character you do enjoy. Come back to your 48 when it's fresh and fun again (and it will be - I just came back to my 49 Blaster I haven't played in 3 months. She's awesome!)
The VEAT may seem like the bestest shiniest thing in the world - and they are fun - but they're not THAT fun. I mean, they're not SO MUCH BETTER than all the normal ATs that they're worth 20 hours (or whatever) of tedium to get to them. Try a Dominator or something - with the new buffs they're much more exciting than before. Or if your 48 is already a Dominator, try a MM or Brute or ......
Thats how my first 60+ in WoW was. He sat at 68 pre wotlk for nearly a year before I picked him up, at which time I took an alt all the way to 70. In turn bypassing the first one.

I talked to someone a few days ago. It seems to be common the closer one gets to 50 the greater the desire to put the toon down and rest for a bit.
One Digit into 48 and I just hit that. I sooooo want to unlock the VEAT for my next Main but I am having so much difficulty finding the motivation to trudge through the last two levels, even though its pretty much easy street having all the contacts unlocked. Its happened in other games too, I don't know why I didn't expect it to happen. I was perfectly fine two days ago getting to 48, in fact I was stoked to finally be this close.
