The other day I tried to start a blue side stone tanker named Alabastard but the name was taken. That was my shortest stint on hero side ever.

I'm going to guess that this particular name was blocked, not taken.
I know I would have petitioned it if i had seen it in-game. Pretty juvenile, IMHO.

Yesterday I saw Brighid Fitch...I decided to let someone else deal with it.

If they just append the player's global as a subtitle to the name, this all goes away. Everyone could have any name they wanted (virtually, within the confines of ethics and the law). It would look something like:
Daemodand (character name, larger text, eye attracting color)
@Daemodand (global, underneath the character name, smaller text, subdued color)
Problem solved.

As far as the RMTers... whether it's them or the mods, all the "empties" = deleted names. Admittedly, it probably doesn't help much, since the spam tends to come from lkasdjrfoiweur and friends...

I've actually been seeing an influx of spam using formatted names. I can't think of any specific examples but something similar to Fiyah Dominatah and such.

Apparently sarcasm is not your forte. The punchline of the story is how *short* my latest attempt to play blue side was. Of course I knew the name was not available but it was just an afterthought considering I wasn't serious about playing heroes in the first place. *rolls eyes*
Yeah that's definitely been loading my email box lately, "almost" names, "names a 12 year old kid would call their toon"...
I agree that anything in a banned account should be freed up, just in case there ARE some acceptable ones. But indeed, the reason that the purges aren't more frequent is that it just turned out that there weren't that many being *re used*, and so many were under level 6, so... Chances are that the names you want to use that are taken, ARE taken by someone who's at least cared enough to level their character to some respectable level, and / or are simply *enjoying their character with that name* still.
Be creative. This game relies and in fact takes pride in its creativity, go for it.

The problem with that Daemodand is that not everyone wants the whole world to know their global.
The reason you cannot find any good names is simple, I have them all!

If I'm in a global channel with someone, they can know me there. But there's a distinction between character and person, and I'd like to keep it that way.

Anyone who knows your toon name has access to your global name. /get_global_name is available by just knowing someones toon name. I guess I'm not seeing how there's a distinction.

There is no limit to names, just one's creativity. If there is a name you just *have* to have, make minor modifications.
For example, you need Inferno, but it's already taken. How about The Mighty Inferno, Raging Inferno, Crimson Inferno, Captain Inferno, Inferno Prime, and so forth?
Back in 1990, I created a superhero character named Lionheart. He's been my main character in various PnP RPGs and PC RPGs ever since.
When I created him on Freedom (to join a supergroup of Freedom Force players I'm associated with), the name Lionheart was already taken. So I appended FR to the name, which are the initials of our supergroup. I refer to my character as Lionheart, not Lionheart FR. It probably looks odd to other players, but it serves as a personal identifier for me.

So, I skipped about 9 pages, and things were silly before and after the skip, but howsabouts some semi-serious help with a Mind/FF name? I can come up with all sorts of stuff for the mind part, but the FF is really getting me. I don't require (or even tend to like) my name being associated with both powersets, but... I feel I should have some ideas before I commit to something... Best I have so far is "Bubble Headed" ... which is a little demeaning.... being that Im the brunt of many a blond joke already, I think thats one I should avoid...

Most people still don't know that you can do that. Yes, it's commonly known here in the forums, but frankly I don't need j random SPAMMER seeing my global under my toon's name, either. Make it at least half a minute more difficult for them to get it, thanks.

My wife and I collect tarantulas. We have almost unlimited names for spider-themed characters
