Who gave the Cimerorans coffee?

So, after putzing around on the new TF last night, I decided to pull out my level 50 dominator to take her on a run to test the new changes. Where better to do so than everybody's favorite pile of Cimerorans, the wall? Imagine my surprise when I arrived to find that the guys on the wall were actually halfway alert and prepared for battle now. The soldiers were standing around with their shields out, and the surgeons were all spamming their heals. At first, I thought somebody might have just annoyed the mobs and then ran away or died, but sweeping the top floor clean a few times just kept getting me similarly battle-ready mobs.

Both from their ParagonWiki page and my own observations (jerks keep shrugging off my first round of Stalagmites before I get domination up), it seems that Cimerorans get most of their active defense and mezz protection once they have their shields out, so I imagine this'll make things harder for some people to frolic on the wall... assuming it wasn't a fluke. Anybody else seen this? Are the ones off of the wall (say, on the ITF) acting like this too?

I personally actually kinda like it... finding things my dom can fight that don't spend the entire time as statues is a novelty. I might disagree if they act like this on the ITF, though.

I checked it out. It's definitely new behavior, but it didn't make a shred of difference to my plant/therm. Seeds of Confusion hits nearly the full line, so I can't say I'm noticing a defense buff for the Romans. Checking them for purples now...

I noticed it too, also thought it was another person pissing them off for a second (people do that, no clue why) but then I saw a group spawning and immediately grab their shields. Bugged it too as it doesn't make much sense to me and it looks kinda stupid.

It doesn't make sense for you to have soldiers and guards in a contested area prepared to repel attacks....?

Is this just an animation change or are they really starting their buffs before being aggroed? If it's the former, that's nifty. If it's the latter, it's a bug. The faction was designed to not have things like leadership buffs and mez resistance up from the get-go. Can someone with a Power Analyzer power double-check?

The Surgeons are cycling their AoE heals before being aggroed, but I don't see the LTs or Bosses using Shout Command. As for their Shield defenses, I can't say with all the ToHit most of my characters have.

I'm pretty sure the shields are up, since, like I said, they were ignoring a normal Stalagmites nuke, and like JB said, they're heal-spamming even when waiting. I agree that they didn't seem to be using the command until aggroed, though.

[/ QUOTE ]There's a couple of things why it doesn't make sense:
1. There's no imminent threat.
2. If there was, grabbing their shield and sword takes a second.
3. The fighting position is impossible to be standing still in a whole day long.

If there's no need, why do anything else than just standing in the most comfortable position and keep an eye out for something that might be a threat? Then, when there is, you will be fit enough to able to fight.

I was hoping this would be about the Romans using the coffee drink emote.

1.) There is an imminent threat. They're just a short distance away from the enemy's last base.
2.) They've been slaughtered countless times already because that second was more than that had
3.) That's why you have shifts

NPCs don't role play. If the devs want their non-combat animations to change, that's fine. The point I was making upthread is that all NPCs are designed in a particular fashion. Some are inherently mezz resistant. Others have toggles they put up, and it adds a tactical element to combat to be able to mezz them before they raise their toggles. This sounds like a bug.

Historical contamination and time travel go hand in hand.

Any number of villains would be trying to sell ancient Romans some nectar procured from the god Starbucks.

Doom.

Yep.

This is really doom.

I have noticed the romans getting a bit more antsy for awhile. But the changes in this issue are significant. Makes no difference to my brute but it could affect squishies that are running the wall.

Ever play a scrapper/brute/tank/stalker? Do you wait until you are engaged before toggling up your powers? Now that would be stupid. The Cims just got a little dose of l2p, that's all

Does this mean stealth custom mobs won't wait til you hit them to stealth?

Wrong. I never farm the walls and my favorite character for ITF runs is a Kin corruptor who couldn't care less whether they have their shields up or not.

And when you can see them, they can see you, who is a possible threat.

We never see them when they're not ready for battle, we only see them when they're ready for battle. Hence, they should be prepared, and ready for the beatdown you're going to put on them.

1. We're talking about Armed Guards prepping for imminent attack. Head to an American military base in a warzone and see if the guards are chillaxing while playing cards. They've got their rifle in their hands for a reason.

2. Raising a shield and sword (or spear and sword, or rifle) from the 'at rest' position to the 'readied' position takes far less time than picking one up. Which is why GUARDS should have their weapon and/or shield already drawn.

3. Very true. But how long does a guard shift last before rotation?

There is a need. And standing or sitting in a comfy position while on guard duty is a surefire way to get yourself killed and your base/temple/castle/fort invaded.
