I heard somebody say it was "Halfway to Paradise"

Jack Emmert stated back in the day that Paragon is an alternate universe Providence, RI.

Makes sense. There's certainly not room in RI for a modern sized Providence AND Paragon City. I can very easily imagine in a world where, because there are islands off the northeast coast and various other geologic changes due to ancient civilizations and their gods, that the area we call Providence has become Paragon City and Boston is a much smaller town, like Providence is today.

...I forgot what experience means.

I think Paragon City is basically ersatz New York in CoH-Earth, much like Metropolis.

I remember getting a huge [censored] map with my purchase of City of Villains* when it first came out in a Box.

I knew from visual comparison with a map that it was Rhode Island soon after purchase. Now I've been to Rhode Island multiple times and never found Terra Volta, Independence Port, nor Striga.

Totally false advertising isn't it?

I live not too far away from Providence myself, and yeah, I think Paragon could easily be Providence. Founders Falls seems like the area downtown near the Mall, just, expanded... kinda...

Kings Row is the "other side of the highway", aka, the bad side of town (which isn't really that bad honestly)

Independence Port could be the area down near Eddy St. and the Russian Naval Museum. Just needs more strip clubs.

Atlas Park is a far less Hilly version of Federal Hill, hell, even the city hall looks the same (my search-fu is weak, so you'll have to look it up yourself, sorry).

The Hollows, Striga, Dark Astoria and various other zones don't have a correlation I can think of. Croatoa feels like Newport to me, the down home aspect mostly.

Bricks and Boom sound a bit like Pawtucket and the other surrounding towns.

Aside from that, I don't really know.

First thing I thought of when I saw Paragon City was in RI was Happy Harbor, which I linked in my last post. It's a fictional port town in Rhode Island where the Justice League had their first headquarters, before they moved to the satellite, and has been a haven for some level of superhero activity over the years in the DC Universe. Happy Harbor's maps don't match up to anything in Rhode Island of the real world either, particularly when comparing topography, as some of the elevations shown are well above the height of anything that exists for real in Rhode Island.

It's far smaller than Paragon City of course, but I still figured the choice of Rhode Island as being a nod to that era in comics.

In terms of scale, Paragon City is much more in line with Metropolis or Gotham, of course. It would appear to me that the CoX universe is influenced more by the DC Universe's tendency to have mostly fictional locations for their stories than Marvel's more "real world"-ish geography. Just as DC never really pins down exact locations for their cities, I doubt we'll ever be able to get an exact location for Paragon City either.
