Cleanin' out the Inbox: Memories & Shout Outs
mind/rad gets pets?
Oops! I fought him a number of times on his fire/rad also and must have combined the encounters in my mind. In my nightmares he has pets!
It is kind of sad that it is over since most left/got banned. I wish i would have started earlier to play this game
30 imps sounds horrific...

Messages from Yosef asking me to keep in touch with him after he left the game.
Lots of PMs about the "PvP Behind the Mask" series, Ajax was pretty notable as he has a TON of info and many smilies whne people were calling him granddad.
Think I have a message from AngelsFist or someone about HVND vs. random Championites for fun, we got rolled 200 to 1 or something in Troll Caves, none of us knew what the hell was going on and the qqing in the Champion boards was epic.
PM from Sabin asking if I was interested in learning how to Emp in Arena...what a journey that became.
Good times, good times.
Questions about the game, either side? /t @Neuronia or @Neuronium, with your queries!

ahh the good times, how I miss them. The Integrity/dUmb/PCJL love triangle. The great rivalries between many of the ladder teams. I want to throw out a big thanks for all the good times to all the great players I have had the chance to team with (I will definately forget someone so..) but here we go: Thanks for all the fun Sabin, Proj, Siph, Syph, Shin, Stryker, Neuronia, Ajax, Myk, Omega, Aura, Arc, Hans, Mac B, Grav Havok, yosef, hush, brynn, Sandri, Helly, selah, Wandering Sword, En3my of m4n, Kat, Helmholtz, Beta, Stella, Empire, .prodigy, chizakice, -ego and I know I have missed many but hopefully those names will give people a good walk down memory lane. Some still play some moved on due to i13 or personal issues but gone nonetheless.
And Kara, Yosef is back, i don't know for how long or whatever but I was talking to him yesterday in game.

Nice to see you still around Terp! And a great read. Some great names in that list and memories. Happy to be mentioned.
Most of my old PM's are about PvP/The old PvP leagues/Drafts also.
Happy Birthday!
Glad to see YOU are still around!
Cheers!
Good memories, I might have to do the same.
My PM box is full of stuff from Kara, Proj, Beta, Johnny, and I think Syph.
I'll never forget Integrity/PCJL/dUmb. That was amazing.
I'll also never forget PE. I love those guys. I'm surprised they put up with my [censored] for so long.
My account runs out... 8-25-09. So basically in two months.
Forum Troll was sick...best Mind/Rad controller ever.

Wow! Nice list Terp This brings back old memories of the good ole' days of PvP in this game. I remember nearly everyone on that list. Here are some messages from my inbox.
A message from Rasta: "You are my number one draft pick! Welcome to the team. Lets get together and share pvp ideas and drafting strategies". I was the number one draft pick in the first ever PvP league. Rasta was the team captain and wanted to try out an all scrapper team. Our team won some matches but lost some too. The team to beat that season was the Tribute team with Johnny priest on ice/em. They ended up going undefeated. The first PvP league was somewhat unique compared to the future leagues that would follow because stats like kill/death ratio were recorded.
Message from El Nino "RE: Skarps" damn, nerf regin :P
I remember dueling him on test when he first hit the scene with his elec/elec blaster and beating him horribly He fought all the best PvPers on test and lost to all of them but somehow he beat one of Rystorm's toons in a 1v1. From then on Skarps Skillz was born.
A message from Peritus in response to my rad/psi build and strategy that MaXimum requested from us. It was an i7-i12 strategy of dueling on a Rad/Psi. As it turned out Peritus used nearly the same strategy that I did. With it you could beat any other rad/psis that didn't use the same strategy. Ice AJ and I perfected the technique while dueling over and over again on test. We must have dueled each other on over 30 times before we found the perfect strategy.
Message from Ajax "FoL vs 10 MOP on Wednesday 4/18. Standard best 2 out of 3, 20 minute rounds, small insps, no monkey cage". This was back when officials were 20 minutes long. The original 10 MOP back then started as a group of veteran protector players that randomly showed up on test one night and formed a sg. We didn't do any practice and somehow we managed to beat FoL in an official. The members of the original 10 MOP were Terp Man, Mista Snax, Slan, FD, Yumi, Realest, Masmune Guard, me, Deadly Spike, Silit on his kat/regin :P, and probably a few others I cant think of right now. Snax kicked [censored] on his unconventional fire/elec blaster. We absolutely destroyed on close quarter maps like the caves and office (People used to do officials on those maps back then lol) because elec was fast and Yumi was a beast on the storm.
Message from Genna, PvPec Rep:"Please register for the pvpec forums we now have hun. We wont have a space on the blue boards anymore." This is a message from someone who didnt PvP but got into the PvPec for some inexplicable reason (sound familiar?). When the pvpec first started they used the coh forums as their recruiting base and for other things until they got removed/banned because it was causing too much drama and taking up too much space on the forums. Despite their best efforts, the PvPec is considered to be a joke by a lot of people. A few good PvPers have organized events under the PvPec and have done a good job over the years, however this small organization has largely been plagued by terrible players who simply don't know the PvP in this game enough to run a proper event that appeals to the hardcore and casual gamers alike.
Message from DarkMaster RE Waaaaazzzzabi!?!?!? Sup Bro! Yea, I might sign up for that, sounds and looks like a lot of fun. A lot of work went into that I'm sure, kudos to Terp. I've been busy lately myself with work and play. This is a response from me telling DarkMaster about Terp Mans duel ladder back when terps first made it. DarkMaster is probably one of, if not the most knowledgeable person in the game for team makeup and strategies. He rolled an Ice/Em blaster BEFORE PvP came put in i4 because he knew it would own Ice.Master and Re-miX were the best ice/ems at the time. Ice.Master was the leader of Hell Raisers, a group from Protector that was the only team ever to beat Tribute in a match. Hell Raisers only used their B team in that match as well, making the victory even more impressive. Rystorm said they only wanted to practice with Hell Raisers because the other teams werent giving them competition :P
Message from Labrynth: Hey Spiner. As you might have noticed, we are currently very short on captains for the PvP League. What we are looking for in terms of qualities in captains are experience, performance, and time spent on test. I dont need to remind you that you have all three in spades . If you wouldnt mind being a captain for the league, it would really be doing everyone a favor . Labrynth was looking for a captain because in the second PvP league we were short on captains. I had to decline because at the time I was too busy with RL, but they still managed to find a captain and we ended up having a great league I met Labrynth in i2 in Boomtown when I was playing my fire/dev blaster and he was playing an ill/rad controller. His strong suit was playing an emp. He was one of the first pure emp players in the game along with Basic Heal and mwghost.
Message from Realest, GET BACK IN THIS TOURNAMENT!! Realest and Masmune Guard were the best kins in the game no doubt. Back when kin was good for 1v1s they had these duels that were freakin epic. Realest used to own mas pretty bad until mas caught up and eventually got as good as Realest. Realest made a video called Keepin it Real in Paragon City thats still hilarious to this day.
My apologies for the long read but I like to reminisce about the past because IMO it was some of the best PvP Ive ever played in any game, and the gimpvgimp we have now pales in comparison to what once was :P
Looking forward to hearing more...keep em coming!
Awesome. Good stuff Spiner!
QQ i miss all this yo... i wanna fight with my random elec blaster!!
and u forgot rose nub.

It gets argued all the time about our era of pvp compared to current pvp. It really just isn't the same in every aspect. The community, play styles, and competition are all weak compared to the golden days. Sure I am bias. Who wouldn't be? When I reminisce and think about how many skilled players there were back then it makes me really miss it. The ability to log on to test and see 50+ other faces of friends and SG mates doing kickballs all the time was something I really miss.
As for PM's... I don't have my original account anymore so there goes the memories! I remember having a lot of duel requests in my inbox though.. Some players in particular:
Pork Hugh Pine, okrunko, Ignitor man, Forum troll, soul of earth were some I remember talking to on the forums in PM's.
I think I ran in to you last night in RV Terp?

Doh! I knew I was missing someone important. Adding our emp, Lil Rose Garner AKA Liz Garner to the list

Yeah exactly. The quantity of people and the skill level required for high end PvP isn't nearly as high as how it used to be.

That's quite possible. I noticed I was teamed with someone in the Retribution VG, but didn't know who it was.
I had just dusted off and respec'd by ice/thermal corr. Was a lot of fun, and there were enough other targets around that I didn't just get farmed over and over :P
Nah I was hero side killing you We gave the vg, Retribution away when we left coh years ago.

Lol. Cave maps are for pros. I remember how impulsive the creation of 10mop was. For those who don't know: one day Liz Garner went into RV and said somthing to the effect of "Hey we are starting a new PvP sg on the test server, anyone want to join?". Two of our emps were randoms from RV, as was our starting tank (yes, we had a starting tank).
Peace to all of the beasts I had the opportunity to play with:

woah they purged like half of the thread ..o.o
Well, I saw the post that said they were deleting messages over 2 years old when they transition to the new forum, so I figured I'd take a walk down memory lane and look at a few of the old messages before they go. For some reason, I thought it'd be interesting (for me anyway ) to post some of the info from those PM's, giving shout-outs to a bunch of PvP'ers who earned my respect in the arena.
A message for Forum_Troll settin' up a Duel "Re: spines/regen vs mind/rad" The sheer number of pets combined with the rad debuffs and TK proved to be too much, and he emerged victorious. He was a good player and a strong duelist. This was the first duel I had lost on my spines/regen and a sign of things to come
A message from Kroll "Hey mandman..." askin' about the duel with Forum_Troll. He was shocked that I lost, as I had recently thoroughly dominated him. We ended up exchanging many messages over the years and I ended up joining his pvp sg, Penance, at one point. He was a very good player and a great guy in general (despite being a Duke fan).
A message from Labrynth "Re: Lingering Radiation" giving me advice on how to slot LR. He had just defeated my spines/regen the previous night with his /rad controller, and I was in the process of leveling a rad/psy. Lab was one of the most knowledgeable and capable pvp'ers I've come across, and I was fortunate to team with him on Death Dealers, Hell Raisers, Penance, and a pvp league team in addition to many pvp nights on both Protector and Test.
A message from Epik "Re: PvP Test Battle" settin' up a Duel on test with his fire/storm. Epik was undefeated at the time, with some sort of crazy record on his home server, and he defeated my scrapper. 30 fire imps!!! :P He definitely has a few strong controllers and was a great duelist.
A message from HoboHealer "Re: Test Build" sayin' he wasn't goin' anywhere near duels with his empath. Hobo's a good player and a good guy. Whereever you are, Cheers!
A meesage from SnipeFu "Re: PvP Battle" agreeing to a duel with his blaster. He was known as a very good blaster, but we never ended up dueling, as I think he left the game shortly thereafter.
A message from Doogie "Re: The Missing Doogie" saying that, like SO MANY others at the time, he had basically moved to WoW. That guy was a trip.
A message from MiniMedic "Re: Protector PvP SG on Test" indicating that he was late for pvp on test 'cus folks were pullin' monsters into the group during the hold phase of the Hami raid (the raid failed). "Some pvp would be nice for anger management. " This guy was a very good healer/buffer/player.
A message from Chucifer "Re: Help with Spines Scrapper" asking about my Hover build, touting dark mastery, and discussing maximum movement slotting. "on test, i have whirlwind with Sprint and swift 6 slotted." Nobody's heard THAT in a long time! Chu was a very good player with Penance, and a very cool guy. Choo Choo!
A message from El Nino "Re: Server Battle" indicating that he was looking forward to the match against Protector whom he referred to as a "worthy opponent." (lolprotectorwhat?) Always liked El Nino and the Tribute folks. There was always a mutual respect between us and we met on the battlefield frequently.
A message from PositronBot "spine/regen" saying he had just rolled up a spines/regen and asking for build input. He was a very good dueler/player on Test with his blaster. He participated in a number of duel tournaments I hosted, winning a few.
A message from DarkMaster "Re: unstoppable runner" (8/05) obviously responding to a PM from me complaining that someone I dueled just ran away the whole time Unstoppable was down. DM was a great ice/em blaster and the first blaster to ever defeat me in a duel. He is also one of the most knowledgeable pvp'ers/players I've ever come across. Great player and probably my longest standing in-game friend.
Messages from Zingo, Blost, and TacRedLine regarding our PvP Team. This was the 1st pvp league, and we were doin' some strategemizin'. We weren't very good! It was a tun of fun though, and my teammates were all good guys and good players.
A message from Aeolus "Re: Arena Weight Class Info" letting me know the arena weight class setting for lvl 38 - 40 is Cruiserweight. I was tryin' to set up a duel tournament from work for that night, and didn't have access to the info. Aeolus was a very good player and always good for pvp info!
A message from Peritus "Re: Rad/Psy Team" agreeing that we should team up our rad/psy's for some 2 v 2 action. "I always imagine the capability of stacked rad/psi though nobody allows us to team up in arena night " Good stuff. He was one of the best duelists/players in the game for a very long time, and extremely knowledgeable. The deadly combination of great player + HUGE numbers guy. We had the first two rad/psy's on Test and would chat about how good they were. I remember him sayin' he didn't want to play his too much 'cus he knew that would just expedite their rise to FoTMness. At the time it was hilarious and prophetic.
A message from Patient V "Re: Take 2" regarding HVND's victory over Penance (I missed it) and indicating that he was a bit burned out on pvp. Apparently, HVND just had better spikes and "flat-out outdamaged us." Patient V's a great player and tremendously knowledgeable. I'm very glad I had the opportunity to fight with him (and learn from him) in Penance.
A message from Moe "RE: 10 Minutes of Pain vs Velocity" responding to my apology for 10MoP forfeiting the match the night before (their players that showed were PISSED!). I F'n hated "leading" a group as I had difficulty committing to any given night. Moe was cool about it though and a good SG leader.
A message from P_Spiner "Re: Match v Lions Den" indicating he agreed with my preference for 10min matches over 20, especially with the DC rules that could leave you a man down for 10+ minutes. He mentioned our previous match with HVND and how we drew the worst possible map for the team we had available. Their 2 kins to our 1 made things extremely difficult. Spiner's a great player and one of the best duelists ever. Another one of my oldest remaining in-game friends, we've been fighting with and against eachother since the arena was introduced.
A message from Soul_Train "Re: Cox Duel Ladder Banner" accepting my thanks for creating the banner for the Duel Ladder web site (sig). Thanks again Soul Train!
A message from PerilX "YO" asking about my status with HR and sayin' he was startin' a new laid back SG. I had the pleasure of fightin' with and against PerilX many a time, and he's a very good/knowledgeable player.
...and that takes us up to July, 2007.
Over the years, I've cleaned out my Inbox many times, but for one reason or another I saved the above messages (and more, but I wouldn't want to bore you! HAHAHHAHAHA). I definitely respected the abilities of all of the above players in the PvP Arena. I know my memory of the above would have disappeared with the forum transition, so I just figured I'd take a little trip down memory lane before that happens. Didn't necessarily mean for this to be a friggin' novel! Hopefully, we still have a few folks left who recognize some of those names and the rest of you find at least one thing in the above post at least somewhat interesting :P
Keep Duelin'!
