I am so confused now. I guess I16 is not the Going Rogue people are talking about: link

Looks interesting!

Ok, so Going Rogue definitely isn't going to make the year. /em sob

I'm all for customization, but using tintable Imps as the example is pretty weak, IMHO.

Personally, I'm glad that we'll have at least one more issue before the paid expansion that is clearly not going to be available until sometime next year. I was really afraid I16 was going to be Going Rogue and we were going to have another 8 month dry spell.

Hopefully there is more to it than just power customization.

One of the reasons I have seen stated is that power customization would cause PVP confusion - what am I hit with? What are they buffed with? Now that they have pretty much homogenized PVP and most PVPers are gone, it is the perfect time to let us have pink lightning and glowing peuce energy balls.

But yeah, if that is a whole issue...that would be a whole lot of time between new content "for you" if you are a person who hates AE and has no desire to play with power colors.

I don't know why anyone would think i16 would be ROGUE. Issues are do not cost extra and have to be given to subscribers so the game is updated for all. Expansions are what you have to pay for if you want that additional content. So, issues are essential and expansions are optional, if I am not mistaken

The release of City of Villains (a retail expanshalone) coincided with Issue 6, so the assumption is that whenever Going Rogue comes out there will be a free issue released at the same time. The question is what will be included for free in the GR issue (I17, I guess ).

If you look at Issue 6, you can see that it didn't have a whole lot if you weren't buying the new box. New PvP zones, Gladiators in the arena, and some graphical/QoL improvementws, but that's about it.

Except, at least in the only previous example for this game, even if one did not purchase CoV, everyone's game was updated, like an issue, when i6, "Along Came a Spider (CoV launch)" came about; even if you didn't buy CoV, your game had to be updated to include:

<ul type="square">[*]SG portals in all non-hazard zones[*] SG beacons for the explores in a zone[*] the PvP zone doors and PvP zones themselves[*] the stupid "Hey there, newbie. Why don't you go trek across 4 zones to talk to the doorman to this pvp zone before I let you fight crime?"[/list]
Based on that, I would think it wouldn't be completely out of range to assume that Rogue was i16. Well.. that and the whole e-mail link thing.

Unless I'm remembering this incorrectly, nothing regarding bases could be accessed without the purchase of CoV. A lot of player whom had no interest in playing a villain purchased CoV solely for access to bases. I also recall telling folks, just base it, only to find you they could not because they never purchased CoV. This remained the case until the split from Cryptic Studios was officially announced.

Folks need to keep in mind that everything regarding Going Rogue was leaked prematurely. The devs never intended for us to know about it this early. Before the whole email/link code thing, most folks pretty much expected Going Rogue to be a post-2010 thing. I would have been very surprised had Issue 16 actually included Going Rogue.

Now I'm probably being silly with this, but seems to me CoH follows a pattern of 3 and 6 with significant issues. Granted Issue 15 is looking kind of meh ATM, I'm still thinking Going Rogue will be a Issue 18 or Issue 21 thing. Issue 18 could be a late 2010/early 2011 release...maybe. On the other hand, we know about CoV for 2 years before it was released?

This is what I was trying to tell others as well and it fell on deaf ears (err blind eyes)

One of the devs said a while ago shortly after the influx of the new slaves, err fully compensated underlings, that they were able to do stuff to the code that would have seem impossible before. That quote alone made me think of power customization.

That's correct. You couldn't get inside a base without CoV. I was referring more towards the blue portals themselves in the non-hazard zones, like Atlas, Talos, etc. Even if you didn't have CoV, you still saw the blue portal under the statue in Atlas, which simply said "Buy CoV to access me!" if you clicked on it.

Really hard to say about the Going Rogue release. You would think they had been working on it for awhile before this leak/intentional news, and that they would want to get it out in a reasonable time in relation to those other games out there. Late 2010/early 2011 seems awful long to do what they want it to do (or what I think what they would want).

I do know that games take a lot of development time and all, but I'm being a little hopeful, seeing what they are responding to, etc.

I'm also confused by all the "I15 is meh" comments. It's being billed as a mini-update, and that's what it seems like, in all honesty. We'll see if the TF holds up, though. And hopefully we'll see I16 reasonably soon and it'll be good.

Not sure where you got a day from. The impression I got was it was months prematurely.

Well, well, well...

It appears that the email blast announcing the expansion has gone out a little earlier than expected. Enjoy!

For those of you who haven't received the mail yet, here's the link to the official Going Rogue website:

Now yes, Pulse could have been using sarcasm, but I think we'd see an emoticon to that effect.

Also, if you check some of the URLs for the original email, many graphics appear to be in a 20090512 folder. For example: http://www.newzyouwant.com/NCsoft/20...ine_051209.jpg

It seems clear that this was supposed to happen on May 12th, 2009, and someone at the marketing site pushed the button about 12 hours early (I got mine on 4:53PM EST on 5/11).

All this, plus the fact that they were able to put up the website and trailer in a pretty timely manner makes me believe they were only off by a day.

Fair enough. I did take little as sarcasm, hence the italics.

I see what you are getting at. A reasonable conclusion, but I will point out that was the same logic used to claim Issue 16 would be Going Rogue.

I hope so too, but I think it is hard to tell what content is. From the posts from BABs, it seemed a really huge deal to do. So if I16 is PC and pretty much PC, then people may say there is no content. But they could have used the resources of 3 issues to get PC to work or just found a nifty trick, which I doubt.
Hopefully some new S/TFs - in particular red side (reside? ) SFs/trials - will get added or some nice arcs.

True, but if I16 is only PC, then it starts ending up like I14, which was "only" MA. Both represent a LOT of work on the time of the devs, but it doesn't come out that way to some players, unfortunately. If you don't really care that much about Power Customization (or if you don't like how it's set up, like if it's only color tinting), it won't be enough. And some people weren't all that keen on MA (I like the idea, but it really hasn't grown on me).

I know part of the problem with that is people NEVER getting enough. But I do think what type of content issues have needs to be taken into consideration. It isn't all cut and dried about what the devs can choose, but more powersets and missions are usually regarded as a good thing by players. Having something like those in each update would be a good idea, just from how I see people react (and going from my own reactions) on the forums and in game.

So, hopefully I16 has more than PC and the PC is executed well. Asking for a lot, I know, but that's the perception.

QR - Cuz I'm bored

Nothing is really enticing me that has been announced/teased, including the Rogue stuff. The colorized picture made me "ugh" out loud. Thus, I came up with something that interested me that I think could work well. Original? Probably not.

Lycan / Werewolf-transformation

Basically, you start out as a human with a mix of dark blast and dark melee powers. Use whatever damage modifier works; it'd be a mix of Melee and Range but you're not a blaster/scrapper/brute/tank/defender/etc. Would probably need an inherent to bolster the appeal of this mode so that the next part is actually optional and wouldn't take away from the fun.

At level 32 (probably) you get the choice of choosing the transformation to puppy mode. That opens up X power choices to play with and slot if you choose. This uses up more endurance so you can't use perma-puppy power (without a damn tight build and IOs). Can use the same powers given to the in-game puppies (so mostly melee, with one range, faster movement, etc). High resistance to smashing and lethal, but fairly weak to elemental and energies (not the same as the in-game puppies, but you're not a damn cheating NPC remember). You can stay in this mode as long as you can keep up the endurance; when it runs out you pop back into human form because you're tired, etc. Of course you get inherent mez protection while in puppy mode.

Bonus if they can have all the lycans switch to puppy mode while in zones when it's dark, regardless if they choose the power or not (at the appropriate level.)

Guess I'm looking for something a little different that still works within the constructs of the game.
