Like when buying up enough Miracle uniques to outfit every toon I have. And noticing that the lvl 40s were selling for like 100M (and I bought mine for around 25M). How do you not sell that when you have like 10 more in stock?

In my Playskool version of this story, I had been waiting a week for a level 30 Adjusted Targeting: Rech. I saw a level 31 got posted just last night, so I laid down my usual opening salvo: 512 (the last 5 averaged about 500,000)
It won. Then the dilemma started: "I really ought to flip this...but I don't want to wait another week." I wussed out and used it.
Perhaps, Grandpa dave_p, you could tell me a story about The War to cheer me up.

You can regard those people as whiners, but they also illustrate what will happen if a player doesn't play the market. There is really a huge gap between your 16 billion and those so-called whiners.

Yes. It's called "Lack of Knowledge and Lack of Effort".
Easily curable, but all too frequently left to fester in favor of endless whining...
@OP - Funny post dave. Thanks for the chuckle (and I still love that pic)

I'll never deny that it's easier to make money if you already have money. Obviously, it takes a decent bankroll to buy up Miracles and notice that there's a huge profit opportunity on the sell side. How's this though--every time I make a new Field Crafter accolade (just finished #17 or 18), I net around 50~100M. Every. Time. That enough startup cash for the tired & hungry? Note, it takes almost no startup capital to do this. Hell, you don't even have to go for FC, just memorize the best ones and craft the hell out of them for a few weeks.
An Offensive Guide to Ice Melee
I would shorten that to simply "Lack of Effort." As in, "I can't be bothered to even try."

I can confirm this is true. I have over 200m in cash and about 200m in market orders on my richest toon right now. I don't have a single toon that I actually PLAY that's under 10m inf atm.

the easiest straight forward and helps you gain more sale slots more personal storage slots is work on the crafting badges
it turns a tidy profit

I saw your post and it really awed me that you were willing/able to do that. I'm a complete pack rat and hate "losing" anything, i.e. deleting stuff (you should see my RL closets). I don't even like deleting DOs that I pick up on my teens who all like have 100s of M's (I mean I do it, I just don't like to do it...).
Currently, my hobby is getting FC on all my toons on my main (and really only) server. I have like 2 left that are almost done w/their memorization badges, another 1 or 2 that just need Master Crafter, and I'll be done. Not sure what I'll do after that... prolly take a break for a while. Maybe try to break 4 min on pylon soloing with some super build (though I'm not too far from that already). The latest challenge on the scrapper forums is soloing stuff w/ SOs only which takes no cash, so is sorta pointless for me.
An Offensive Guide to Ice Melee
Well, getting FC destroys a minimum of 12 million inf in crafting costs... so that's a start. If you get the 45-50 badges, you'll burn another 40 million or so. We approve of this hobby.
So far I've been burning other people's inf almost exclusively, except for the prestige bit (I put in 240 million on that.) Buy for 6 million, list for 7.1, sell for 8... I burn 800K inf and make 1.2 million. I did relist something [5 million inf hit on that of my OWN money] once, I did screw up twice and lose 22 million of my own money, but mostly I'm breaking even or making a little bit.

hee hee, i dont need to borrow inf, if i really need something i usually just vendor some lvl 50 recepies after buying them for around 100 inf, im not a huge marketeer by any measure but i get by.
honestly though that amount of inf is worth being proud of and congrats to you!
Probably because it's booooooring.

[/ QUOTE ] Maybe. I do all the things to make a ton of influence, but I spend it just as fast as I make it. I'm very rarely rich.
But in all fairness it only took me two and a half weeks to go from 2 million back up to around 400 million. I think I'm gonna try to actually hold out for a billion this time(we'll see if I can be that patient).

New player here and new to these boards. Which advice specifically? I'm willing to put in the effort and I'd like to better understand the IO/SO system while doing it. A point in the right direction is all I'm asking here.
No worries. Check out the guides at the top of the page.

Check the guides that are stickied in this forum. However, the basics are pretty much the same:
<ul type="square">[*]Observe prices on what you want to buy for awhile. Know where the highs and lows are.[*]The Last 5 prices are like the Pirate Code--more of a suggestion. When you want to buy or sell, use what you know from the first bullet: place your bids/post yours sales and walk away. Adjust as necessary.[*]Be aware that prices are lower earlier in the week. Perhaps you should buy then.[*]Be aware that prices are higher on the weekends. Perhaps you should sell then. Or when you have uber loot, buy stuff NAO because you can. [*]Heroes are weird: They will pay you outrageous sums to make stuff for them. Go fig.[*]The Smurphy Challenge: What is the lowest you can buy X that you have been observing? Can you sell it for at least 10% more than what you paid? Congrats, you now have something to flip for profit (and a niche for Fulmens to smack up).[/list]

I don't bother blowing a niche unless you can sell it for more than about 3x what you paid for it. . . and unless you're selling for more than, like, 10 milliion.
Otherwise I'd be doing nothing but posting to the SAME thread. Instead of posting to DIFFERENT threads like I do now.

I'll start looking at the guides. My problem begins with bullet one. I don't know 'what' to observe because as a new player I don't know what is good and what is bad. Perhaps the guides will help clear some of this up.
Thanks for the pointers...I'd like to make a lot of money 'making' things as part of my characters roleplay so that's where I'll start.
While I didn't mean it as a curtain call or anything, my last bit of performance art sorta demotivated me to do make any more real inf. I mean, how much more do you really need, right? And I was just using inf to "keep score" and I thought 16B (actually more) was plenty for a personal "high score".
So, I stopped my schemes, pulled out of most of my niches, which is to say let them die off gradually, and stopped paying so much attention to the market. Then came I14. And 10K Pangeans. And silly ticket farming. But I held fast, and while I did buy up every rare salvage my base could hold, it was for personal crafting/slotting. I also bought up & crafted a whole lot of rare IOs for relatively cheap, again for personal (and SG) use.
But temptations abound, and I faltered more than once. Like when buying up enough Miracle uniques to outfit every toon I have. And noticing that the lvl 40s were selling for like 100M (and I bought mine for around 25M). How do you not sell that when you have like 10 more in stock? Similar for equipping purples--you buy something for like 60M and turn around and notice they're selling for 100M+. Why? Why do you torment me so, oh Buy It Nao'ers?!
Every day, I see niches that I could make a killing in. Fulmens and others have *announced* many of them, and they persist. It's amazing that anyone could ever complain about not having gobs of inf in this game, more than they'll ever need. But the whiners will continue to whine while I enjoy my golden years, grumbling about the darn young'uns. Just stay off my lawn, mkay?
