Tried and didn't like
Well, you're entitled to your opinion--though I would encourage you to list what bothered you about it.
There are no words for what this community, and the friends I have made here mean to me. Please know that I care for all of you, yes, even you. If you Twitter, I'm MrThan. If you're Unleashed, I'm dumps. I'll try and get registered on the Titan Forums as well. Peace, and thanks for the best nine years anyone could ever ask for.

hi guys,
now i tried city of heroes and i must say i'm not excited about it. the gameplay is not what i expected and the combat system is slow and not really impressive.
When i compare the gameplay to world of warcraft it's not even close. I didn't come further then a few levels, then i got bored by the game.
sorry to say this to the people that love the game

Kthxbai.
The development team and this community deserved better than this from NC Soft. Best wishes on your search.
The first few levels aren't a very good indicator of the whole game.
The combat system is slow because you haven't built up very many powers to use yet.
Not to be mean, but that's kind of like deciding you don't like a movie based on the preview.

Comming from WoW myself, the best thing about this game is the community. You will never ever find a more helpful and caring bunch of folks to play with than in this game, well the majority at least. They will greet you when joining a team and say goodbye when its over, little things like that you cannot take for granted. Plus you dont have to worry about thoes pesky spawn campers bc PvP is gimped
Don't waste your breath Indorphins. The OP decided he doesn't like this game in less than 12 hours of play.
New to City of Heroes. Any good?
It's nice that you formed an opinion and I won't debate your right to have one.
However, I was under the impression that this was the Player Questions forum. I'd have expected at least a couple questions about how to find enjoyment in the game, what are the fun things to do at your level and so on, and so on. Maybe someone has the same questions in mind and is just waiting for them to come out in the open so some passing vet will give a satisfying answer.
As it stands now, in this forum, your post has no added value.
Go ahead and ask us something.

He already did that in the link I provided, and people were answering him.

'Kay, bye!
The first few levels of WoW didn't convince me that I'd want to stick around to play the rest of them, either. Please remember to delete your characters so people can use the names, and turn the lights off as you leave.
I'd ask for your stuff, but having only played the first few levels, you obviously don't have any.
Positron: "There are no bugs [in City of Heroes], just varying degrees of features."

Forbin summed things up better than I was able, and much nicer, too. I'm not saying the OP is incapable of making a decision as to his/her likes/dislikes based on only a few hours of play, mind you--I just find it terribly unlikely that s/he was able to form an accurate concept of what CoX really is in such a short period of time.
TL;DR: The cover of this book is stupid.

Thanks, Forbin, my bad, I just clicked the top thread and didn't see the other one. You posted the link as I was writing my own reply.
Oh well, that'll show me to post too fast!

Funny, I had the exact same impression from the first 10 levels of World of Warcraft. Combat for my low level Shaman was slow and plodding. I hated the fact that aggroing more than one or two even level critters was tantamount to suicide. The low level quests are, for the most part, uninteresting (okay, "raiding" the pirate lair was kind of cool). I REALLY hated the loot dropping system ("You need to get me six scorpion claws," but I needed to kill 12-13 before I had completed the quest because, for some reason, the scorpions I fought, which had claws when I was fighting them, suddenly lost them when they became corpses. Last time I checked, scorpions have two claws each, and none of the ones I fought looked handicapped. When CoH tells you to arrest ten Hellions, you only need to arrest ten Hellions) Nothing in the low levels requires strategy (beyond "don't make the thing next to what you are fighting mad at you, too"), or encourages creative use of your powers.
Honestly, the gameplay here is miles faster and more complex than WoW, if you take yourself out of the WoW mindset. Seriously, pop a Purple inspiration or two, and then jump into the middle of a group of six or eight even con or +1 level bad guys, and waste them all (I regularly do this in the Hollows at level 6). You can even do this with a Defender if you know what you are doing. Nothing WoW has comes even close to this kind of seat of your pants, adrenaline rush kind of gameplay. When you get to higher levels, you can jump into even larger, higher level groups, and do the same thing.
Old time vets talk about how they don't feel "super" any more after all the power balancing that has happened over the years. I say, go play WoW, or EQ, or Guild Wars for a bit, and try to take on the same things you take on in CoH. You will feel practically godlike when you come back.
Honestly, you are on a trial. Don't compare your low level gameplay experience here with your high level gameplay experience there. Take a long, honest look at what the low level gameplay is like over there, and then make your comparison. If you still feel the same way, then you gave it an honest chance, and this isn't the game for you. Sorry to see you go, and good luck wherever you land.
New story arcs coming soon (ARC IDs will be aded when I finish the arc):
So, you want to join the Hellions? (level 1-14 Villainous arc)
Sparks & Steel (level 5-20 Heroic arc)
and

Having played wow for over 4 years, from 6 months after launch til a month before WOTLK; I can say I wish I had started this game instead of wasting my time in WoW.

Steam Profile
Perhaps the OP will enjoy the game more if it provides an experience closer to WoW
Remove Sprint from your power bar.
NO jumping. If your way is blocked by a 5 foot high fence you must run around it.
Do not use any temp travel powers, or pick any travel powers.
Don't slot enhancements in your powers. Fighting more than one even con enemy at a time should be a challenge that as often as not results in your death.
Do every hunt mission possible. In fact if you're asked to defeat 10 Hellions defeat 15, to reflect that not every one of them would drop the item you need to collect from them.
Edit: Lightfoot beat me to it on the drops and the dangers of multiple enemies...
Lasted longer than me on WoW.. I was blowing chunks after one day. Gave all my disks away. Was atrocious.
ok guys, i read all your posts and i have to apologize by forming this fast a opinion. I have to remove my wow experience and i will continue to give this game a chance.
Sorry for wasting your time, and when i really tried the game i will repost my opinion about this game.

Lol its quite alright, its just rare how anyone could judge a game in a matter of hours. But dont force urself to do anything you dont want to do. All we are saying is to give this game a chance and join some teams for some fun mishs. Looking forward to ur thoughts later on.
Play Villains. The contacts are more interesting and the arc stories are better, and the mayhem missions (where you rob a bank) are an absolute blast.
also had trouble with contacting people, when i chat with someone, it didn't came up in my chat window somehow. anyway, i am gonna use up my trial period and then i make a descision if i gonna keep playing the game.

I'm happy to see that you are willing to give this another shot.
If you are playing on Justice server, I will be more than happy to help show you around a bit. We'll put some levels on you and hopefully you can have more fun with it.
I still can't say you will like it, as everyone has their own opinions, but having a guide does help.

There are restrictions to trial accounts that were put in place because of gold farmer companies.
If someone could link them, My searches are a little buggy at the moment.
