IN-GAME SPAM EMAIL
I've probably been part of at least a dozen separate threads in the suggestion forum regarding this issue, as well a few here, and in Player questions.
I gave up a long time ago. lol
On a side note, you can effectively reduce your own spam by using /hide so people can't use a simple /search to get your name. It may take a little time for the spam to dwindle down, but it does work. AND/OR, since you don't intend to use the email at all, you can ignore the little red letters and the notification in the chat of new mail.
If that doesn't work, change your UI color to almost match the red color, so you might not notice it as much.
If that doesn't work, print your UI and cut out the Email button and tape it onto the screen so it looks like it's always empty. haha
The option to disable email or to have only those on our global friends list or SG should be implemented.

[/ QUOTE ] THIS.. has always been my position, with another stipulation being "SG leaders only" (to prevent characters just joining sgs, spamming everybody, and moving on to the next group).
If they let us turn email off, spam dies. WE NEED THIS FEATURE!

WARNING: I bold names.
Not that a dev will even read this but I'd sure like to see this feature
I'd rather have the ingame email than not.
Why? Because I have received one non-RMT email? No.
Because if you turn it off you will force the spammers to find other avenues. If you think the AE spam in Atlas is bad, wait until that turns into RMT'ers.
Yes they will; I've seen it in other games.
I agree the RMT email is annoying. I would dearly like to see a "delete all email as spam" button. That would be more useful than removing emails and forcing spammers to find a more direct route to annoy and interrupt gaming.

That's the way things used to be before the trial restrictions were put into place.
But I agree, things will always eventually evolve into another avenue.

Any possibilty we can have an option to disable receiving in-game email?
I was logged off for 7 days and came back to 56 spam emails. That is ridiculous and annoying. If we can't stop the spammers from spamming, then why not give us the ability to turn it off?
In over 5 years of playing CoX, I have received a grand total of 0 emails from legitimate players.
I see no need for email other than to allow spammers a way to advertise to me. I personally, want my email disabled.

you know.. thought the same thing. But then was wondering if the goldfarmers can't send us e-mail what will be the next choice of attack? I once logged on another MMO (shhh don't tell the devs) It was horrible, the global chat was an unreadable scroll of people trying to sell thier ingame crap.

This.
All I can say is that we need to pm all the moderators repeatedly about getting this feature in game until this gets added. Remember the its the squeaky wheel that gets the oil.

Like marking emails as spam works so well now.
I don't know about anyone else, but every time I delete an email as spam its un-ignoring a spammer on my global ignore list to make room for the new spammer. This doesn't accomplish anything.

Except if you haven't logged on for some time and you have 56 of them - as one poster here had - you don't have to click "spam" 56 times.
*That* was the point.

[/ QUOTE ] Technically, you wont have to click "spam" 56 times anyway, because chances are pretty high that many of those are from duplicate senders. When you click "spam", all other e-mail from that same sender will also be removed. You'll probably only end up hitting "spam" about 35 times. haha
I understand why our ignore lists are limited, with all the email spammers we are all marking/ignoring, everyones ignore list would quickly eat up server storage space if they were not. But this is also part of the problem.
If the devs were to implement a game wide, master spammer list, (which had no limit), that might help. When someone marks an email as spam it would mark it for everyone. The ignored party would not part of your own personal and limited ignore list.
That way our ignore lists are truly ignoring the morons in the game and marking an email as spam actually helps all of us.
If anyone involved in electrobiomechanical engineering wants to develop a way we can poke other people in the eye over the internet.. not only would you become a billionaire, but spam email would be totally eliminated...

The only problem with a global spam list like that is what if you do get in game e-mails from people and hit the spam button by accident.
I know a lot of people do not use their in game e-mail, but I do for requests during my show, and I would hate to put someone legitimate on a spam list.
I personnal think there should be the ignore list and spammer list for each individual. Let the spammer list not hold as much since we know it would just cycle anyway, but this way we can have a legitimate ignore list for players that we need to ignore and not have them get booted off the list.
And just a delete all e-mail button would be fantastic.

I enjoy reading these advertisements, and the many ways that they use user names and global names to circumvent the system's restrictions. Tenacious little buggers, they've almost endeared themselves to me.
And yet, I just keep slapping the 'spam' button, and they'll never, ever, see any activity towards them from me other that this action.

Hitting the spam button should automatically send the e-mail to a special place for the devs to check them out so they can ban all of the PL/inf spammers' accounts. They'd have to ban the actual name of the person connected to the account, that way they couldn't just start another account. Maybe that would slow them down for a while at least. Maybe if they put in a spam filter that would automatically delete anything referring to PLing or buying inf for cash, we wouldn't get any spam-mail at all. Then our ignore list would be left open for people we really want to ignore for other reasons.

All I know is this flagging emails as spam isn't working. It's not slowly getting better, it's slowly getting worse.
I can understand some of you not wanting in-game email disabled. I, for one, would love it as an "option". As long as it is an optional setting, those of us who want to turn it off could and it wouldn't effect the rest.
That can't be a hard request to implement to the game. We have options for hiding from searches, tells, invites, and players, disabling xp, etc. This is just one more element that might make the quality of life better for a good portion of the play base and make life harder for the email spammers...
but that's only my opinion.

I can see this causing FAR more trouble than it'd be worth.
So, if I accidentally mark *you* as a spammer, you'd be /gignored by everybody in the game? You get too busy deleting spam and mark your SG leader as "Spammer," everybody in the game would have them ignored? Or someone tells a newbie "Hey, send me an email, just do this," then griefing them by putting them on ignore so nobody in the game hears them?
You *sure* you'd want that?

Give it to us already, PLEASE? I'm *AFRAID* to log into my character who has 67 days offline time. Is it even going to be worth the trouble? I don't know if I even want to log onto him anymore. It seems pointless. I'll just be deleting ingame emails forever.
Perhaps in-game email spam wouldn't annoy me so much if i could delete multiple messages without clicking on each one.
The argument that we should not allow people to turn-off receiving in-game emails because something worse will/may happen is silly.
