How about merely reporting every in-game e-mailer's IP to the Chinese government's Internet control police? That would have no effect on people outside China, of course, but it might make a huge dent in RMT activity nonetheless.

1.Put in filters that allow us to choose which emails to accept:

[x] ALL
[x] Friends List
[x] Global Friends List

Supergroup/Coalition and Game-related emails would never be blocked. (Friends and Global Friends lists refer to the recipient's lists, not the sender's.)

2. Put SPAM ignore on its own list, thus restoring the functionality of our ignore list. It doesn't have to be as long as our regular list, just long enough to ensure that when an id gets pushed off, that account is already deleted.

3. For Super Mega Extra Bonus Points, when an account is banned as a spammer, automatically delete ALL emails from that account, Server-wide.

I would dearly like to see a "delete all email as spam" button. That would be more useful than removing emails and forcing spammers to find a more direct route to annoy and interrupt gaming.

[/ QUOTE ]

Like marking emails as spam works so well now.

I don't know about anyone else, but every time I delete an email as spam its un-ignoring a spammer on my global ignore list to make room for the new spammer. This doesn't accomplish anything.

[/ QUOTE ]Yes, it does, actually. Because you're missing the part where the Spam button automatically sends a pre-phrased, pre-written, pre-flagged petition to the GM staff, where they likely dedicated a few hours to checking all the emails marked as Spam before getting out the Banhammah.

This is generally the best combo-pack (with large fries) solution, IMHO.

I would like something like this. The last legitimate/non-GM email I got was received two years ago. I asked a sg male to send me a bind. The tons of email I do get are all spam.

Please devs... allow us to opt out of email.

...On a side note, you can effectively reduce your own spam by using /hide so people can't use a simple /search to get your name...

[/ QUOTE ]This does NOT work at all. I have had characters that I haven't logged in to for well over 300 days and they have spam e-mail from various days.

Personally, I think NCSoft has a stake in some of the RMT sites, so the player database is sold / used for marketing purposes.

Either that or their internal security has been compromised / login server hacked.

I mean even people I know who have used the mail would prefer to turn it off. I do not know anyone that finds it useful.

Besides, the game probably doesn't have much life left in it which is why we are seeing "fire-sale" prices from the RMTers. They want to get rid of inventory ASAP and move on to games that have populations.

[/ QUOTE ] Like I mentioned previously, this is a bad idea. Then We'd have characters just joining sgs, spamming everybody in the group, then quitting and moving on to the next group. It would be better to have the option to disable SG, with the stipulation of always allowing email from just the sg leaders.

Huh? There is absolutely no evidence to this. Last quarterly reports show the population stable or slightly increasing over the past year.

As to a financial stake, the owners do get some financial benefit from the spammers as they have to purchase time for the accounts before they get banned.

Hi all,

I'm just trying to think outside the box here, but wouldn't it be easier for all of us (including the developers/programmers) if we just limited how many emails an individual is allowed to send per day?

Say Mr. Evil Spammer-Guy is currently firing out 1000 emails a day, and we limit them to only be able to send out 100 emails a day. Overall that would have a significant reduction.

The only exception would be SGs, which the developers would have to allow an exception that would allow them send emails freely to anybody on their roster.

We all know that spammers aren't in SGs, and for argument sake if they were, they could just annoy the group they belong to. Correct?

I understand why our ignore lists are limited, with all the email spammers we are all marking/ignoring, everyones ignore list would quickly eat up server storage space if they were not. But this is also part of the problem.

If the devs were to implement a game wide, master spammer list, (which had no limit), that might help. When someone marks an email as spam it would mark it for everyone. The ignored party would not part of your own personal and limited ignore list.

That way our ignore lists are truly ignoring the morons in the game and marking an email as spam actually helps all of us.

[/ QUOTE ]

The only problem with a global spam list like that is what if you do get in game e-mails from people and hit the spam button by accident.

I know a lot of people do not use their in game e-mail, but I do for requests during my show, and I would hate to put someone legitimate on a spam list.
I personnal think there should be the ignore list and spammer list for each individual. Let the spammer list not hold as much since we know it would just cycle anyway, but this way we can have a legitimate ignore list for players that we need to ignore and not have them get booted off the list.

And just a delete all e-mail button would be fantastic.

[/ QUOTE ]

Just did that recently.

Had been just multi clicking like 1000 times trying to delete all the spam an old char of mine had when somewhere in middle was an email from couple years back I had been saving from a friend of mine. Dang it, just happened to look up an see his name go on ignore list and was like GD it!!

I like having the ability to email my friends, and especially my alternative characters. That said, I did some brainstorming and came up with some things that maybe could help the general population that will satisfy 99% of the concerns. Whether or not this can be implemented, a red name would have to confirm.

We need customization, and make it impossible for spammers. So I want to add some options and tabs to the current email system.

Option 1 – Enable or disable (if you choose disable you have no need for the additional options below, as you will receive no email, and send no email)
Option 2 – Filter Options – Yes or No. If you choose no, you will receive all email as you currently do, spam included. If you choose yes, you get more options.
Option 3 – Global Channel (Receive or Not Receive) – This filter will enable or disable everyone on your global list to send and receive email to the character you are currently logged on.
Option 4 – Global Channels (separate tabs for each channel) Receive or not receive. Basically anyone who is a member of the same global chat channel will be able to email your character.
Option 5 - Super group members (yes or no option to allow super group members to email your character.
Option 6 - Coalition (yes or no) sames as above

These are just the filter options mind you.

Everyone else who does not fit into the criteria above requires mutual consent between the characters. So if Inc is teamed with bigmeat, Inc can right click his teammate and request to be added to safe sender list. This will add both players character names to the safe senders list or their corresponding “safe lists”, thus enabling them to send email.

Also – Would need the ability to email any characters on your own account.

Realistically, you only email people who you are friends with or teamed with anyway (or like me, my own characters).

To simplify they can make it mutual consent first for everyone, but that will be harder to do when peoples play times are different, so i think categorical options will be good.

Yes, it will be more time consuming, but people who have the time to send in game email, have the time to properly set their parameters.

Wouldn't work.. they log on to trial accounts and sit in tutorial alot.. seen em, reported em.. watched them collect names for hours uninterupted despite my petition about player chfgikltk on account global fjkldlin (or similiar) with no badges or perc, looks trial to me. Then log other accounts to spam the mail.

1.Put in filters that allow us to choose which emails to accept:

[x] ALL
[x] Friends List
[x] Global Friends List
[x] Supergroup/Coalition Members (Unchecking this will not block email from Supergroup/Coalition Officers.)

Game-related emails would never be blocked. (Friends and Global Friends lists refer to the recipient's lists, not the sender's.)

I'd rather see the limit at 15 or 20 per day. That seems much more than adequate for cutting their ability to mass e-mail down, while still allowing us enough to be able to send plenty of e-mails to other people. Also, adding a 'no limit' for people on friend's lists/SGs would ensure that we'd have plenty of wiggle room for our own personal use.

Off the top of my head, why even give trial accounts an option to email? Limit it to paying customers. If you want to email, join SGs, hit level 50, pay the subscription.

You can disable email.....just don't ever look at them.

yeah, but that doesn't send a message to the people doing the spamming.

I totally Agree with this. All this email system has done is create an avenue for spammers. I don't think the Devs have banned the IPs of these spammers either.

There have been reports that the no-email function of the trial accounts hasn't worked right. If this is true, then lets hope it is fixed, otherwise please give is the option to shut off email or only accept email from global friends.

We now have the option to Block Architect Emails, but Architect feedback was subsequently changed to global tells. However this shows that email can be given a block option.

Worst case scenario: shut down the email function completely until the block option can be safely implemented.
