Anyone else having this problem. Because i have had the test server installed for a long time. And after downloading the new patch it isn't working. Saying the files need fixing.

Ditto here.

Got a .dll missing error, and now, it won't give me next as an option.

EDIT:

Ok, it gave me next finally after about 5 mins.. here's the exact error.

"The program can't start because DfEngine.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem."

I get an error trying to start test on my XP machine. Says DfEngine.dll was not found when i try to load it up. Is that the same error you folks are getting?

Trying to rebuild the test client from the live one.

Same. There's a thread on this in the 15 Feedback forum as well.

Same issue here, same error message.

I'm trying to reinstall; it's fixing .pigg files and expects to take an hour to do so.

I used the current Live build (after Predownload) to rebuild my test client. And I got on.

All the .dll files were missing from the test folder after downloading the new patch. i copied them all over from the live version and it crashed midway through launching the test client. It's now fixing a bunch of .pigg files. If everyone else's experiences are anything to go by i fully expect it to crash again as soon as it's done.

i'll be doing the same if the updater's fix fails. For now i'd just copied over the missing files in the main folder.

1. Copy pigg files from Live directory to Test directory.

2. Delete checksum.coh

3. Run updater.

That did it for me.

Tried that, and after 40 minutes of fixing files anyway the client crashed again when i tried to start it. i'm done trying for now since it takes well over 20 minutes for each attempt. Maybe tomorrow there will be a quicker method or a fix.

Have fun testing, let me know how it goes.

I had this problem too. The file I deleted was CoHTest.checksum though, hope that was right.

Verifying now, we'll see if it goes.

If not, the quick method to get on test is what? I think....

1. Copy all files and subdirs in CityOfHeroes to CoHTest
2. Delete the checksum file.
3. Start patcher and let it patch.

I think, not sure. Anyone?

The City of Heroes Community is a special one and I will always look fondly on my times arguing, discussing and playing with you all. Thanks and thanks to the developers for a special experience.

The development team and this community deserved better than this from NC Soft. Best wishes on your search.

Likewise, not working, though it was for me right after the patch hit, now it's not. I don't even get an error message from the game proper. The "loading" window pops up, and suddenly Vista notifies me "City of Heroes has stopped working". Very kind of it, in that regard. Tried Zombie Man's fix, no change in the problem.

Tried zombie's fix, and now I've got a second copy of the live installation.

For some reason the test updater is deleting a large amount of the game's files in the CohTest folder. Something is definitely borked.

Once you get it fixed it only fraks itself the next time you try to play the game.

After you get the test folder all fixed up I'd recommend NOT using the updater to play the game, but instead use the updater bypass method.

Create a shortcut to CityofHeroes.exe in the CohTest folder. Right click the shortcut and select properties. Go to the shortcut tab. You need to add -project cohtest to the end of the Target line. It should look something like this:

"C:\Program Files\CohTest\CityofHeroes.exe" -project cohtest

Then click OK.

Now use the shortcut whenever you want to start the game. It will bypass the updater and stop it from destroying the game folder. Of course when the next patch comes out you'll have to use the updater otherwise you'll get a version mismatch when the game starts up.

Hope this helps.

Zombie and Captain,

Together, you've salvaged an evening of Dom Buff Testing. Thanks for the tips.

Hasn't worked for me so far. I get constant crashes when the game tries to launch still.
