Healer? Bah. Regen FTW.
What you are saying is essentially true. However, no one who hasn't already realized this is going to listen to you. They are going to learn the hard way, because if they were smart enough to do otherwise they wouldn't need to hear any of this. And anyone currently inclined to even consider your point of view has already figured this stuff out.
I mean, seriously. You think anyone who actually uses Atlas broadcast for anything other than lolz is even reading this board?
A well played storm defender.... who needs heals? As I proved my AE team of 8. It was enlightening for them.

Governments have fallen to the power of social media. Gaming companies can too.
It really comes down to one of three things:
1. There is an influx of new players that are not used to other defenders/controllers.
2. There are alot of players that prefer healing over other defenders/controllers.
3. Some mission tactics are better suited to healing.
I seriously doubt it is number 3.

I must admit Healer is a term I used to use, until omeone sat me down and hit me in the head and told me the value of defenders in general! Though I recently had a bout with people and my AE missions, namely how if a Defender can't solo my AV, it's too hard o.@

I apologize to you Atlas Broadcast. I've grown weary of you sadly. I used to get annoyed with the days of general broadcasts for Sewer teams; however, there is a new plague that has swept your lands, to which I apologize for. It seems to me that Atlas broadcast has turned into only 2 things, besides my beloved CC's, which is the only reason I hang out in Atlas. I've seen only AE farm teams lfm and AE teams looking for very specific things. Controllers with holds, Healers, Tankers, and Kinetics. Even the poor Radiation Emission, to which angered me before for always being asked for, has been ignored by terms that I find silly. Healer gets to me, because either they are asking for Empathy the "healer set" (to which I disagree completely with) or someone with a heal, which is silly when there are other things that can be done to off set the need for healers. A properly played team with a good group of players can always trump what cards are dealt with them. Why has Atlas turned into a "I need a healer for my AE team" and "Need good holds for AE boss team." I mean, a properly played set of pretty much any Defender or Controller will contribute the same amount if not more than what is being asked for. I have a level 50 Empath Defender and a level 31 Kinetics Corruptor and have found myself feeling more of an asset to the team on my Mind/FF Controller and greatest contribution on my Storm/Dark Defender. I know how to play me level 50s, and play them well. People give me props for how I play my support characters, so my proposition is either people get over the idea of needing particular things or people learning how to best utilize their characters for the team's betterment. Some need to have the tank hide around corners, other teams need to have all their blasters and scrappers go straight for the throat and defeat everything in their wake. Tactics and good players (which usually goes hand in hand) trumps the ideal team 9 times out of 10.

I play a defender. It was my first AT and is still the one I go to first. When someone sends me a tall asking to join them because they need a healer, I tell them "Sorry, I play a defender. I don't know what this Healer AT everyone keeps asking for is." Yes, I have been sworn at.
As for people saying an AV is too hard if a defender can't solo it.... I solo AVs all the time with my defender. If they can't, well then they need to learn how to get the most out of their toon. They also need to learn that some powersets don't work well for soloing.

I was half tempted to place this in the defender forum, but decided since I'm pretty much only on Virtue and it's really only Atlas/Talos broadcasts that seem to fall into this trap, I'd put it here. However, I'm very likely to start saying what you just said Doc.

I'll tell you a zone hardly anybody plays in. Dark Astoria. People tend to forget about it but then again it barely has any contacts so that makes sense.
I remember DA, I just see little reason for it when I can do my hunt badges in Talos and other locations for the same badges.

This sums up my main problem with Atlas since the launch of i14. The broadcast chatter and lag in this zone has become a serious issue for me. I honestly don't see any reason why there needs to be an AE building in EVERY zone...
Considering how popular Atlas is as a starting zone, RP spot. and stage to countless Costume Contests there's more than enough incentive to go there. Being a little more selective in what zones get an AE building would give people a reason to hit less populated areas and lower the strain on hot spots like Atlas and Talos.

Ha. Any team that "needs" heals is a team best avoided most of the time. Consider those broadcasts to be informative: "don't join this suck team."

heh I willing admit the broadcasts are annoying ... but its freaking broadcast!! I find the SG recruiting stuff more annoying than what you describe. In general however, what bugs me the most is the damn " lvl 1 ___ lf AE" (several variations of this!). Yes there are a bunch of new players and that fact doesn't bug me that much -- if someone ask a question then I'll answer it -- though I see where someone would not like that. SPAMing is a no no, can't stand it, its an auto g-ignore for me.
I do think the Local chat should be used more instead of broadcast since the majority of the people are in the AE building in range of the chat or at the Trainer, in which case the are most likely going to be heading back into the AE building.
But if you are that disturbed by the "newbness" of broadcast - turn it off and hope CC people use Request or just move broadcast to its own tab. Better yet as most people have already stated -- don't go to the zone, if it lags you out, overwhelms your chat, or you just don't like the low level intellect vibe of the zone. There are plenty of "quiet" zones that have everything your need almost.
About the AT tells and stuff - its always going to happen - >> Search comment will fix issues. Then again there are lots of folks that don't read it. Then you can gripe at them for not only stereotyping but not reading as well heh.
** Note the the OP -- if you have only played a Kin to 31 and you are dissing it ... wow. Firstly you are missing 2 key powers which make the set. Look at the buffs as a whole: +dmg, +movement, +rech, +recov, +resist, Status Protection, an AoE heal and +end powers that can't be matched by any other set for what they do and how fast they do it. (combat of course) ... Also did I mention it debuffs at the same time?! Kins are awesome in my opinion and are a great addition to practically any team.
** DA is useful for some serious street sweeping -- it gets you all sorts of goodies hehe

Problem is, alot of new players come to AP, so if you're recruiting for an SG, that's where you get to stand.

I'm not dissing it and am quite aware of what it does. That being said, the other power sets out there are there for a reason and can contribute equal if not more than the person broadcasting's ideal power set. Granted, people need to screw on their heads and think tactically otherwise they will fall into the rut of asking for a certain power set.
Having a team of 8 tankers, scrappers, blasters, defenders, or controllers can either be amazing or fail miserably every time. Mix and match as you will and do so with power sets as well, but a team of good players that know how to utilize not only themselves but their teammates' good qualities is where great teams come from. Sure my Kin Corruptor is great at what she does; however, I don't think that she should be picked over any of my other characters for the sole reason that she's a Kin.
I know how to play each of my characters and know how to bring out the best in not only myself but my teammates; however, some people believe that they can't run a team without one of the following three power set: Empathy (Pain Dom), Kinetics, or Radiation Emission. A team can be quite successful without any of these three. I've done several TFs without one, or have had one and they just are dead weight. I'd rather have 8 of anything that knows what they are doing and are willing to have synergy with the team than have one of those staples that sit there and do nothing. Sure, Speed Boost is nice, but I'd like more than a great buff. Healing is great for when crap happens, and I appreciate not only having it to place on other people, but having others use it on me.
On an individual power set level, I have no problem with any of them. They all are great at what they do. That being said, having one asked for is one of the most annoying things I've seen in a great while. To me, someone asking for more than just the word "support" tends to be a team that I won't join. Sure, wait ages for your ideal power set to come along, I'm not going to wait for it when the team can be doing just as well with another power set.

I just couldnt help it, I gotta put my 2 influence in here ...
I propose that they have no AE buildings in Atlas Park or Galaxy City. These 2 zones are to introduce people to the game and be social zones. It is disturbing to hear a crowd of lvl 1s screaming to get on farm teams, anybody with me?

Healer doesn't always mean literal healing ability. Its a general term for support characters and classes in any MMO. Its called that because of course, in the original MMOs straight healing was essentially the only thing you could do to provide a force multiplier to the team (that is, allow the same number of people to defeat proportionally much greater threats than if they had added one member of another class/build), but as you point out thats not true anymore in all games, and certainly not this one. Still, the lingo stick,s and it works because everyone who has ever played an MMO recognizes it.
I still ask for 'healers' even though I would accept, say, a forcefield mastermind, or a sonic contorller to fill the same slot. Similarly I still ask for 'tanks' even when playing villainside, indicating not that I expect a tanker to somehow be available in cap au diable, but that I need someone capable of fullfilling the agro-management role.
