  1. My understanding, from all the other stuff that's been coming out of The Cape staff, is that the pre- and after-party will be in Gemini Park, with the main party being in Pocket D. I could, of course, be wrong.

tl;dr: Someone who can use the Force, but isn't affiliated with the Jedi or Sith.

That's what I assumed, but, well, you know what "assume" does.

  4. *cough*

Would that be 7:00 PM EDT, PDT, GMT, or something else entirely? It helps so one doesn't show up three hours early or three hours late.
  5. A brown-cloaked figure, his hood raised against the thunderstorms outside, enters the Rookery before it's official opening this Tuesday. Boredom is etched on what parts of his face is exposed from underneath the hood, and a hand waves negligently at the door behind him, which seemingly closes on its own. Another wave, and some of the lights come on, driving the shadows out from the center of the Rookery into the corners. He walks to the center of the room, and waves his hand again, this time sending tables, chairs, and deactivated FBBC's from the center of the room floating to stack on the outside edges of the room, though leaving several tables and chairs free for those that don't want to participate in the day's exercises.

Satisfied with the preparations, the figure removes a metal cylinder from a belt hook underneath his robes, then reaches up with his free hand and lowers his hood. Kant Lavar turns around to face the door, waiting for the next person to enter the Rookery, and thumbs the button on the lightsaber he recently finished building, causing the weapon's 34-inch glowing green energy blade to drive the shadows back further. He starts limbering up, wondering who, if anyone, will arrive and be up for a friendly little sparring session...
  6. Yeah, a bit. I'd actually stayed subbed, and every now and again, at least after my enforced 15-month break during deployment with the Army, got Modern a bit further along the path to 50, but I didn't really make much of an effort until the whole Incarnate thing was announced. Granted, I got distracted by Praetoria and the morality system, too, but meh.
  7. *sees Shecky chase Cien around while wearing a cup of coffee*

Uhm... could I suggest a pair of pants or something, Shecky?
  8. I was doing a Manticore TF with a PUG, and I thought I was doing pretty well. This was about one year and 30 levels into my career with Modern Samurai, as I recall, and I'd finally gotten the quick heal/quick recovery powers for both Regeneration as well as Fitness (this was several years ago, mind!) slotted to four SOs, so at the time the net effect was, while soloing, at least three-quarters of the time my health and endurance bars pretty much did. Not. Move.

Needless to say, when jumping into a TF with a full group, running at +3 levels, I'd discovered how much that didn't hold true for these particular circumstances. And then the team got to That One Room in That One Mission where it was wall-to-wall baddies. (Or seemed like it. You know how it can go.) After some brief strategic discussion, our tanks attempted to pull a handful of them out so we could mitigate the chances of our getting bum-rushed by the whole room. Needless to say, it Did Not Go Well.

The wave came at us, and I, figuring I had nothing to lose, started trying to slash my way to the doorway, figuring maybe I could, maybe, cause them to bottle themselves up at the doorway. I didn't get much forward progress, but I kept dropping mooks, and slowly, oh... so... slowly... I carved my way through them, popping basically every inspiration I had to keep myself on my feet, plus most of the ones I picked up. Finally, the last guy dropped, and I turned around to see the rest of my team... either just coming back from the hospital or being rezzed on-site. I was the only one that hadn't gotten dropped, and I felt like an utter badass.
  9. /me hires the Birds of Prey to provide the floor show for today.
  10. Someone I'd have wanted to see try out for the role was Bridget Regan (Khalan from Legend of the Seeker). I remember reading somewhere that she did most of her own stuntwork and fight scenes, so at the very least she was physically qualified for the role, and some of the mock-ups I saw of her in the Wonder Bustier looked decent (though how accurate they'd have been to reality I don't know).

My biggest complaint with this isn't the costume, though. It's just that they're turning Wonder Woman into some pastiche of Tony Stark and Batman. Maybe I'd buy it if it were a cover identity established for her in Man's World. But, insofar as we have seen to date, there's no mention of Themyscira, the Amazons, or Greek mythology in this show. At all. And that just screams "doom" to me.

I'm sorry. Of course, I meant to say not "doom" but "DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!!!!!11!!1!!1!one!1shift!"

    ...,with Batman

Playing Halo Reach with Batman. He'd have infinite use of active camo, and all his points would come from assassinations. And if you try and shoot him, he's suddenly hanging upside down behind you. Because he's... yeah, you know the rest.

    Farwell

Can I have your -- wait, no that's for EVE Online quit threads.

    Good luck!
  13. Well, I suppose I'd better dig out Modern's tux costume again...

Hey, I had to go make a raid on a couple of Draconis Combine worlds to find a good Dunkin' Donuts place. You're lucky I'm awesome and didn't have to take a whole regimental combat team with me!
  15. Actually, I'd completely forgotten I'd written a post up and then the forums ceased working for me - and I'd never posted it. However, some quick copy-and-paste work back then has saved my efforts, thus:

    ------------------

High in orbit above the Rookery, a single Leopard-class DropShip started on its glide path, inserting itself into the planetary atmosphere, its nine-man crew performing the task with the unconscious ease of a task done many times before. In the 'Mech hangar taking up most of the ship's volume, four BattleMechs stood, in their cradles, waiting for the signal to commence the next phase of their plan. Kant Lavar sat in the cockpit of his MAD-4S Marauder II, his gloved hands resting lightly by the switches that would bring the fusion reactor at the heart of his machine fully to life.

Two thwumps, more felt than heard through his 'Mech's legs, signaled the launch of the two CSR-V18 Corsairs that would be providing air cover and recon for Lavar's BattleMech lance. Flipping the switches and bringing his 'Mech fully to life, Lavar chinned open a com line inside his neurohelmet. "Leader to Red Lance, light 'em up. Sixty seconds to drop." Since the Rookery didn't have an area large enough to set the Leopard down in, Lavar had elected to have his lance dropped in a small valley nearby. Spheroid DropShips could have made a landing there, but aerodyne DropShips required old-fashioned runways. And the Leopard was much more cost-effective for a small mercenary band like his.

The large red floodlamps over the 'Mech hangar doors blinked, and nearly simultaneously, all four BattleMechs shrugged their way out of their harnesses, cutting umbilicals and fiber-optic cables, stepping towards the doors. As they did so, the doors opened, giving the four MechWarriors a view of the passing landscape. Lavar chinned over to his comlink with the fighters. "Red Leader to Blue Team. Status?"

    "All green, Red Leader."

Nodding inside his neurohelmet, even though nobody else could see it, Lavar switched back to his lance frequency. "Final go/no go, Red Lance. Lead is go for drop."

The three other MechWarriors checked in, indicating no problems that could scrub the mission, and the Leopard's captain chimed in. "Bridge here, we're go. Drop in fifteen seconds. Good hunting, Red Lance."

Counting down the seconds silently, Lavar waited the requisite time and then deliberately stepped his 'Mech out into the open air. The other three 'Mechs did the same, and the four of them plummeted to the ground. As expected, Lavar felt the jump jets mounted in his 'Mechs legs kick in, slowing his descent to something survivable, and he checked the data codes on his scanner display. Red Two, piloting a Summoner OmniMech had also had its pre-programmed deceleration jump jet burn start. Red Three, in a CRD-5K Crusader, and Red Four, in a Mad Dog, were without jump jets, but their 'Mechs were bracketed in jump packs, which were taking the place of the jump jets. The burn ended, the jump packs were jettisoned, and the four BattleMechs dropped the last ten meters to the ground.

The MechWarriors spent a few seconds getting their bearings and making sure no threats were in the immediate area, but finally Lavar opened his radio link. "Okay, Red Lance, let's move it out to Nav Point Alpha. We'll secure the area there and wait for further orders." Suiting action to words, Lavar set his 'Mech to an easy lope of forty kilometers per hour - near the top end of what his 100-ton behemoth could do, but well short of what the other three lighter 'Mechs could run at - he centered the nav carat in his HUD representing Nav Point Alpha - the Rookery.
  16. Don't make me switch universes and go get SDF-1!

  17. Tommy Lee Jones implies a facepalm on these shenanigans.

Oh God, how did I not see this one coming?

I suppose I should ask if you need images of Modern if you decide to do that. I would imagine "guy with brown hair in grey jacket and pants, black shirt, red tie, and sunglasses" wouldn't be that hard to do from memory, but I have trouble drawing decent-looking stick figures most days, so...
  19. After over four and a half years (granted, I really shouldn't count 15 months of that since I had an enforced interruption in my play with a deployment to Kuwait), a couple of different iterations, and even one upcoming and fairly significant backstory retcon, Modern Samurai has finally reached level 50 and been granted the (out-of-character) title of Hero of the City.

The scene: Attempting to track down Statesman for Maria Jenkins, after the aforementioned hero has vanished into Praetorian Earth, Modern Samurai fights his way through Mother Mayhem's private playground where her Seers are created. After managing to take down several seers and even fighting through Malaise's illusions, Modern Samurai finally faces off against Praetor Tillman herself. After several minutes where both Samurai and Mayhem hold their own, the hero from Primal Earth manages to land a solid blow, knocking Tillman out for good. And as he does so, he realizes what he just did, and, despite describing himself as "just a guy with a sword," he's been holding his own against another world's equivalent of the Freedom Phalanx.

Non-RP version: I ding'ed from taking down Mother Mayhem via Maria Jenkins' arc. (And yes, I know that Sister Psyche is supposed to come along in this mission. For whatever reason, she didn't spawn when I loaded in. Not that I was too worried. Modern's a /regen scrapper. HE FEARS NO DEBT.)

Bad news: I apparently forgot what key my screenshot command was bound to - if I ever bound the damn thing - so I don't have screenshot evidence to back it up.

Hilarity ensued, however. As soon as I heard that final level-up flourish, my Cylon-modified copy of iTunes, displaying it's strangely odd sense of the appropriate, was playing this. Which was kind of awesome, yet creepy.
  20. For some reason I'm remembering Modern's deer-in-the-headlights moment with Rose and Nurse White at the end of the Communist Party on Sunday...
