I'll state the blindingly obvious, that upsetting the players was not their intent and was an unintended side effect. They came up with a fix that they thought would contribute to the success of the game. In my opinion, they were EPICALLY wrong, but I don't for an instant think they wanted to upset their playerbase.

Yes, it was the moneygrubbing side of the devs brought to the surface for, IMO, the first time, and we remembered that they aren't our friends, they are our superiors and they had to make a change to keep new players 'from getting bored and leaving', to keep the new-issue-player-boost running for as long as possible.

Yeah, we can never really know how much one thing or another affects things. I beleive that BaBs once said that the sub figures fluctuate so much on a daily basis that its pretty hard to measure any sort of imapct from any decisions. So, some people leave cos they don't like 'such and such', most of the playerbase never notices 'such and such', some people join because the like 'such and such' and some new people join who don't know what 'such and such' was and don't really care. Even ED only showed as a dip of 2000ish accounts (according to Statesman) and that was kind of mitigated by the 60000ish gained by CoV.
Will the number of people who leave be more or less than the number who joined because of MA? Or because of Steam or because of the news storys about CoH or because 'such and such' a hero game got delayed or... I personally doubt it, but its not likely that any of us will ever know.

Someone asked, I dug up the first quarter report from NCSoft and after it occurred to me about currency fluctuations (one of the reasons oil prices shot up last year, the dollar weakened considerably) and decided to take that into consideration when adjusting to US dollars. I was surprised at the results as much as anybody.
As for the advertising comment, I've been here since late Aug 04, and after CoV came out Oct/Nov 05, virtually nothing was done to advertise this game outside of the press release when a new issue came out. Then in a relatively short span we end up with CoH and CoV displays on the CBS sitcom 'Big Bang Theory', CoV in the BuyMore on 'Chuck', the 'I'm a Hero, I'm a Villain' commercials, an NCNC channel on YouTube, a Rooster Teeth Production live action series about Mission Architect, a Mac edition getting press, etc. It's not a 30 second advert on Sci-Fi channel with Ozzy but it's something. Now that may be because subscriptions are down, maybe it's because the demise of 'Tabula Rasa' freed up some advertising budget seeing that CoH/V is the only non-Korean, monthly subscription base MMO NCSoft still has left in NA. Maybe they are concern about the competition coming down the pike in the "Super Hero" MMO space. Who knows, don't care, just happy to see this game being talked about at gamer sites that aren't MMO exclusive.

Couldn't agree more so i left (unsubed). They don't issue refunds i am paid up till June 14th and no one is forcing you to read it if you would like to remain in the dark to events happening that is your right. Guess what i have that same right to keep talking about how i feel. I have not whined at all and i have done everything in my power to honor my own convictions. So while i did not loose any toons or get a ban I have paid a price for disagreeing with Paragon Studios I am not alowed to speak of that due to the EULA however. Also as a note anyone who knows me or has seen my posting history knows i have never trolled or been a troll, if you think disagreeing with a leadership and expressing that view is trolling then i feel sorry for you.

Sadly for you the only thing you accomplish by getting both your accounts banned is give us another Shiverwraith to laugh at. The only person that ends up upset and frustrated is the person that gets banned.

Um, they did listen. Did they catch everything? No. And with the rush of players (I have *never* before seen both Test servers greyed out) during open, anything that WAS sent via open was likely buried in a flood of other things - testing the PVP IOs and such, for instance.
Closed? Yes, we saw a somewhat rapid "Hey, exploit." "Report exploit." *patch* We're talking about maps being pulled (purple crystals from the end of - Ice mistral, I think - that were giving *tons* of tickets with just one AOE setting them off, as well as mobs that had no offensive capability but were still giving XP.)

Why should they publicize "Oops, a few people" - and I'm sorry, but yes, it DOES only seem like a few people, magnified by "I heard from a friend of a friend of a cousin of someone in an SG on another server" - "who didn't intnetionally exploit got caught in the net?" It's a customer service issue, they can contact CS and have it dealt with.
Since when have the rednames or devs discussed *any* moderating action with anybody but the person involved?

Doesn't that seem a little self serving ? While it isn't contradictory it is at odds with the fact they always refer back to datamining for so much of their decisions. I mean if you can't discern a trend in one variable just what is it you are doing ?
