I've ticked off people a couple of times breaking up duels. I just have a hard time recognizing a duel for a duel unless I've been previously informed.
See, I enter zone and see a hero fighting a villain. Im a hero. I wasn't in zone when the duel was set up, so I assume its a free for all and we heroes need to stick together. I assume this because that is the nature of the zones. I also assume this because of the multiple times I've been ganked by teams of stalkers who very rarely wait to check whether or not my 1 on 1 with a villain is duel.
That said, if it's obviously a duel, ie groups of both villains and heroes standing peacfully observing a 1 on 1 match, then I don't mess with it.
In short. It's the stalkers fault.

It's easy, really - anything goes in a PvP zone. If I see someone con orange, I'll attack them (well, most of the time anyways). If people want to duel uninterrupted, Pocket D is only a button click and 15 seconds away.

I log into the zone. How do I know who is interested in fighting me and who is not? I assume everyone is interested in fighting everyone. If someone sends me a tell and politely asks to be left alone for one reason or another, I go along with that request. If someone sends me a stream of tells that just say "Loser!" over and over again (as happened last night), I will make it a point to kill that person whenever I can, regardless of what they are trying to do. Maybe some folks react differently and say "Oh, now that you've called me a loser a bunch of times, I know my place, and see that you clearly deserve the utmost respect. Please provide me with instructions of who I'm allowed to attack and when. I'll be sitting in the corner until I receive your instructions. Anxiously awaiting your reply Master!"

I know it's silly to think that everyone in the zone should follow the rules I choose to apply to my own behavior. I wish everyone else realized how silly it is to try and impose their made-up rules on everyone else in the zone.
If two people are trying to duel, I generally choose another target (if available), but I reserve the right to attack anyone I want at any time (since my target in already dueling ME by MY rules).

I know what is done and that anything goes in a pvp zone, i have already said he has every right to attack, what i dont understand is why he (or you) would want to. There is no challenge and slim chance of a reward.

If i had a nickle for every time I let someone slide in a pvp zone because I respected a duel or was letting them badge/farm and had it come back to burn me I would be a rich [censored]. As it stands now and for sometime if I can attack you you better be ready because I ain't slowing down. I could give a [censored] less what the guy on the other end thinks about fun. You want to duel and not get attacked gtfo my zone.

Enemy NPC fight all the time and people attack them mid fight all the time. We don't see any complaints there 
On a serious note. When I go into a PvP zone and I see someone con orange - I immediately go into attack mode. I don't stop to think if their in a duel, or if their waiting for a duel to start. I attack. If I stopped to look both ways before I started PvP, I would end up getting AS'd for standing still for to long. If I am on a support player, I will heal my fellow hero because that's what I am there to do - to support the other players.

Well I find trying to duel in a pvp zone a waste of time. From other players that attack any other name to the npc jumping in. If you want to duel my best advice is goto pocket d and set it up. Yes that might mean time wasted haveing to change zones and all but it will stop others from jumping in. I'm sorry there is no real fix for this in a pvp zone.
Ya with PvP io's going for the upward of 200 million it is tough to not to jump in...

Random player made rules are the problem in PvP because everyone has their own and will adhere to them as long as it suits their goal. The only way things work is if everyone adheres to the same rules ... why not the ones devs made for us? there is no ability to break them.
I used to respect duels, once in warburg I saw two villains in a duel they announced they were in a duel, I decided to watch and they both turned and attacked and I died being unprepared, my bad I assumed the designed free-for-all rules applied. Later I saw the same two and I got the drop on them easy kills, to which they complained non-stop
So now if I see a 'duel' and think I can take a win I am attacking, because in PvP you are a target to everyone who can target you.
(We try to change the rules next thing you know people afk in PvP zones have grounds to complain and make another rule that can be used to grieve)

I like spoiling peoples fun in PvP ... It amuses me to think that when someone starts mouthing off in broadcast cause I killed them while they were dueling, the person playing the toon is all red in the face and is banging his keyboard, and screaming at the monitor.

IF you see two people fighting 1 v 1, you shouldn't interrupt! It's proper zone etiquette to wait around doing nothing until the duel is over.
AND don't attack people who are standing around next to the duel, as you might accidentally hit a dueler with an AoE. Don't be SO STUPID!!!

I only had a few minutes to play the other day, so I hopped in the zone and started hunting villains. I had a couple kills and only another minute to play before the end of the world (err. girlfriend aggro). The only remaining villain in sight was involved in a duel, but hey my time is prescious, so I had to send him to the pavement.
