Issue 14: Architect is Live! (Exception Freedom!)
[ QUOTE ]
Why is Freedom still down, and how long are we looking at?
[/ QUOTE ]
On Test, Ghost Falcon said the ETA is about 2 hours for Freedom.

So will you be crediting our accounts for the extra loss of game time?
Why is it that every time a release happens, it's the most popular shard in the farm that gets wacked? This is not the first time and I would think that your engineers would learn from the history of roll out issues.
Don't you guys keep an internal knowledge base?
[/ QUOTE ]
As I understand it, this is one of the "trade offs" of playing on the most popular server. The other trade offs being, "higher population causes more lag spikes in gathering spots," "greater chance of hitting the server population cap at issue release," "greater chance of hitting the server population cap for events like double XP weekend" and "while the percentage of players that are either jerks or idiots is probably the same across all servers, the higher population of Freedom increases the chances of running into one on Freedom."
Since these are known issues of high population servers in every single MMO, I'm surprised they need to be pointed out again. For the above reasons, either patience or flexibility is required. The patience to wait for your chosen server to come back up when it is ready, or the flexibility to have a character available on any or all of the other available servers so you can still play just in case your chosen server goes down, for whatever reason.
However, I would like to point out a notable addition from this thread to our knowledge base about the game. Apparently Freedom has more hardware allocated to it to help it handle the higher population. One of the common assumptions it that each server has the same pool of resources to draw from, which is what fuels some of the "kill / merge 'dead servers'" arguments. The logic usually being that once they have freed up the hardware from the "dead server," they can use it to back up the servers that feed Freedom. Now we have proof that this is completely unnecessary and baseless.

Seriously? Who does this, really? Could you even type this with a straight face? Does Blizzard refund WoW players for time spent in server queues or during downtimes? But hey, if you want to take them to court over your 5 cents per hour missed, I'm sure any Small Claims Court in the country will be sympathetic.
New story arcs coming soon (ARC IDs will be aded when I finish the arc):
So, you want to join the Hellions? (level 1-14 Villainous arc)
Sparks & Steel (level 5-20 Heroic arc)
and
So you want to join the Skulls? (level 1-14 Villainous arc)

Bwahahahahaa!
Seriously, assuming you missed the EULA, what's that going to amount to?
[/ QUOTE ]
Let's see. $14.99/month = $14.99/30 days (about) = $.50/day = $.50/24 hours = $.03/hour
Yep they should credit all our accounts for what, about 12 cents?
[/ QUOTE ]
Actually I calculated it as $0.041638888888888888888888888888889 or there abouts.

Significant digits! Aaaargh!
Er, that was in general. Not directly at you. Sorry!
They attempted to keep everyone at the same pace, but figured that in the long run, it would be best to let the players do what they do, play. And its just a small bump in the road.
Maybe in the future they will begin taking freedom down first in order to have everything run smoothly, however, it would probably result in a "why is everyone else up and not freedom!!" sort of post. There is no winning as a dev, because no group of people can be completely satisfied.
Well, enjoy i14 those who can, its only a small stretch for freedom.
Minesweeper will always be available though.
And to the Devs/mods/PR guys...
Thanks for letting us know what's going on, thanks for your extended effort in resolving these matters. We so do appreciate what you provide for us.

Freedom has more hardware to support the larger populations... updating this hardware is taking more time than our other servers.
We have made the decision not to hold launch for the other 10 North American servers and 4 European servers just for Freedom. We are working diligently on Freedom, at this time I have no estimated availability. I'll update you all as we know more.

Now this makes sense. Why don't you guys put out this kind of direct information more often?
[/ QUOTE ]
That kind of information is actually quite obvious to anyone who has played MMO's for several years... more populated Servers are almost always going to be the ones with the biggest issues when rolling out new expansions.
[/ QUOTE ]
I've been playing MMO's since UO, and since it was the first one, I'm pretty sure I have plenty of experiance. It was a simple question. the so called clearity of observation you pointed to is only clear if you understand the facts that Ex clearified.
Trying to say that people don't understand because they have no experiance is not the answer. we simply asked for clearification, no nead to insult our intelligence simply because we wanted to know more about our home server.
Edit: Oh, sorry meant to also say "thanks Ex for the clearification.

This reminded me of all the times, while working for Spring PCS collections, I got to tell people that just because you have a Sprint phone, it does not guarantee that you will always have service. I know it was a jerkish thing to tell people, but it was right there in the service contract. Same situation.
[/ QUOTE ]
That makes sense actually. You need the phone to connect to the service, but the phone is not the service!
I miss the days when you didn't have to change phones when you changed service. But then again, cell phones are so totally cheap and ubiquitous that it's almost a non-issue.

Occasionally, but only in extreme cases. The only one that comes to mind recently is when they had some major issues after a pre-expansion patch that caused most of the servers to be unplayable for nearly 2 days (servers did come back up from maintenance late the first day, but had to be taken down again due to unexpected problems). Even then it wasn't a refund, but a credit of additional game time.
Seriously, a couple extra hours past the maintenance window for a major content patch due to slow updating on the most populated server really shouldn't be surprising. Especially when they said "it might take longer". Honestly if it were up to me I'd use the Scotty method and just schedule a 20 hour maintenance, so it's sure to be done early.
This thread seems relatively civil so far, but on the other one I thought I had wandered into the WoW forums by mistake for a minute. People frothing at the mouth "OMG THEY'RE STILL DOWN I CAN'T COPE RAGE!" or "I do teh computerz at work and it dons'nt take this long to reboot teh servurz I'D FIRE TEH ADMIN!!1!".
Jeez, if people are so addicted that they can't handle a few hours without it, maybe a little time off will do them some good.

[/ QUOTE ] I agree. People need to relax. Hell, I took off work tonight and the probable $100 I would make, and I'm not freaking out that I can't play my favorite characters. Although I am bored, and I don't have any beer...

Its release is going to coincide with the Mission Architect Retail Box going on shelves.
So figure around April 14th.

They reserve 2 hours of maintenance per day during work days actually. Take that part into your 15 bucks of a month and the fact that CoH/V barely has maintenance let alone the full 2 hour ones. Now deduct the off-time of today from that. You'll notice we really owe them, not the other way around. So next time you try to get money from someone, do the math first.
Cheer up, guys. The devs are working hard to get this right. If you can't see it that way, then you may need some anger management

No im unable too get on any servers atm
[ QUOTE ]
If you really feel you are missing out on game time, just try another server. There are plenty of options.
[/ QUOTE ]
I completely understand where you're coming from, but this doesn't take into consideration the people who have invested a significant portion of their CoX time into making toons on Freedom, leveling them up to 50, and grinding to get that "perfect build." The Freedom population isn't any less significant or important (nor is it any MORE important) than the rest of the server populations, just because their population happens to be larger than any of the other servers. So, just casually saying "just play on another server" is a bit heartless, and usually ONLY said by someone who hasn't invested any time on said server.
[ QUOTE ]
Thx for the info...any chance for a free one time server transfer off freedom?
I have like 11 gals I would move off there to ...heck anywhere else. I don't like double exp weekends because I can never get in to play...at all.
If I had known it was going to be so popular I would have made them elsewhere, but some are from when the game went live. sigh
[/ QUOTE ]
This.
The "just deal with it" argument only seems to work for you if you're not on the receving end of it, huh? :P
This is in NO WAY, of course, defending the actions of the "devs suck!" posts just because someone is mad... I'm just pointing out that "deal with it" posts are just about as helpful as a stick of butter. :P (inside joke...sorry, just had to post it for the benefit of the people who know me)
"The One"
76 characters and Twenty-four 50s later, I still love this game.

Unfortunately "just deal with it" is the only real option. All of my characters are on Freedom, and that's what I do. Just the price to pay to play on the busiest server.
