Trying this hotfix, but it won't unzip. I'm not even getting asked for a PW when I use the link they give me.

I am having the same issue. I download the file (tried with both IE and Firefox) and after I select the drive, it gives me an error, Error 40, to be exact.

Try my AE Arc: Out of Place, Out of Time ID#304340.
Leave your Arc title in the feedback and I will check yours out as well.

The file unzipped fine on my end. Haven't crashed since. Knock on wood.

What the!?!? I think that's the latest driver version but it's file date is screwy. Better go get the latest drivers again, uninstall the old ones, then re-install.

(Also, your audio drivers are getting a bit old.)

Posted

idk i just updated them when it started doing this, since i never updated them till now, and prior to it breaking and being serviced i never had an issue

NVIDIA GeForce 8500 GT 182.50 Your PC currently has the latest driver installed for your GPU. No driver update is necessary at this time.

put it this way, aside from playing anyother game, nothing else is lagging =(

I just wanted to add that I had been crashing sometimes several times within a normal play session prior to applying the latest Nvidia graphics drivers (182.50) for Vista 64. Now I occasionally still crash but it seems the frequency has gone down.

In regards to the Microsoft hotfix as suggested, I have not applied it because of this (from the support.microsoft.com article):

"Windows Vista hotfix information
A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix might receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next software update that contains this hotfix."

Note that it suggests that you NOT install the the fix UNLESS you are being serverly effected. While I wish CoH/CoV not to crash at all, I am not effected in other software apps so I will not apply the hotfix.

I have a new Vista x64 system and just did an update. When I try to login the screen goes blank and I have to reboot. I read this thread (Vista or Windows Server 2008 Crashes and Lock ups!) and
got the MS hotfix (Fix245313) an installed it. It keeps crashing. Any thought? When I try to add the DXDiag file I get an error message.
Is there a size limit? Thanks in advance.

I've upgraded to SP2, and when I try the hotfix now and run it I get the message "The update does not apply to your system". Unfortunately, I'm still randomly crashing while playing CoH.

The random crashes usually happen about every 1 and a half missions. I could be in the mission, I could be out in a zone, I could be at the loading screen, I could be minding my own business, I could be taking on a number of baddies, ie completely randomness. I'm posting my system specs below.

I've tried doing an auto-update on my video card drivers but Windows searched and said my video driver is currently upto date. I'm kind of stumped on what else to try. The crashes are beyond frustrating, I'd be thrilled with any help or advice anyone is willing to give. Thanks in advance!

First thing is, once you upgrade to SP2 you already HAVE the update. That is why you get the message you get when you try to run the hotfix.

Second, your video card driver is most likely out of date. Windows is rather craptactular when it comes to finding hardware driver updates. Go to the HP site, select Support and Drivers and enter the model number of your laptop to get to the driver download page for your particular laptop. Look for the downloads for the Mobile Intel 4 Series Express Chipset in the Drivers - Graphics section. Most likely there will be a newer driver. Not knowing your exact model, I just browsed several of the DV4 notebooks and found newer drivers than the June 2008 dated drivers you have.

Third, Intel's video chipsets are NOT gamer quality chipsets, and often don't correctly handle some OpenGL and even DirectX calls.

Last, a HijackThis post might be helpful to see what else is going on in your system when you are running the game.

If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.

Update your drivers. Video and audio especially.

If Sony doesn't have more current drivers on their site for your video card, go to OmegaDrivers.net to get newer drivers. If they don't have newer audio drivers, you may still have problems. If there are any other hardware driver updates for your laptop, I'd recommend installing those as well.

The drivers being so far out of date is the reason so many items report Unknown in your CoH Helper logs.

Knock on wood, Vista SP2 seems to have solved my crashing problem. Three days now with no crashes.

If it isn't showing up in Windows Update, you can download it from the Microsoft Website.

when attempting to launch the game on my new laptop i get the follwoing
You card or driver doesn't support GL_ARB_multitexture
You card or driver doesn't support GL_ARB_texture_compression

then a CoH prompt

detected video card or driver is unsupported ati mobility radeon HD 3740 series
the game may run poorly or not at all with your current configuration current system requirements are nvidia gforce 2 or better, ati radeon 8500 or better, or an intel gma 900 or better
if your card does meet the minimum requirements you might not have the latest drivers go to nividia.com ati.com or intel.com to update your driver.
in some cases such as laptops you may need to get the drivers from your computer manufacturer
do you want to continue?
then there are yes and no buttons, when i click yes there is a black box on my screen that wont go away ill i end it via task manager if i click no the progrem closes

heres the coh helper

This means a botched driver install, damaged driver or driver settings that disabled OpenGL extensions the game uses. So I suggest a uninstall, driver cleaning and reinstall of your video driver.

This problem is not simply a Vista issue. Installing SP2 and/or reinstalling drivers should not be the way you have to fix this problem. The problem is related to Open GL 3.0 and changes which have not yet been addressed by CoH/CoV. Simply speaking, the game has not been kept up to date for the operating systems available. While NCsoft has invested in a Mac Client, they have not updated the Windows clinent to work properly under Vista. I have decided that since NCsoft is not doing anything to fix this problem, I will be cancelling my account. I should note that other older MMO's (older then CoH/CoV) have addressed these issues and crashes/lockups of this nature do not occur. So, as of the end of July I will be out of this MMO.
