Vista or Windows Server 2008 Crashes and Lock ups!

Same problem here. And I agree, I was so eager to see if this would fix the crash nvlddmka error and I can't get it to install.

Question
1. Does it matter what folder your extracting the zip into? (perhaps the pw won't work if the directory isn't exact)
2. Does it matter what program your using to unzip the file? I'm using both windows built in program (which obviously should work) and WinRaR. Not luck with either. WinZip?

I'm tempted to shoot window's an email but I just know it will take them a week to respond.

I'm having the exact same problem as everyone else, and I tried skipping putting in the password and it said it unzipped succesfully. Now I don't know if that's true or not going to find out in a sec tho

Posted

It doesn't
And yes i'm running as admin. So it's nothing to do with that. There has to be someone out there with an unzipped version of the file that can be put up somewhere no?

Posted

It finally worked for me. I deleted the email I got the other day (the one with two PWs) and then requested the hotfix again. The new email has a different PW than the other two in the previous email and it worked.

Posted

Confirmed. It extracted and I'm installing now.

Woohoo!

If you still haven't been able to get it to work, make sure you are unzipping it somewhere other than directly into the c:. I had trouble getting it to unzip until I changed the directory. After that it worked perfectly.

Thanks for the tips everyone! After getting this installed (with your help I might add!), I haven't had any more crashes/locks. Of course, now that I have put it into words, I am sure my PC will blow up or something more diabolical will happen to me today. That's just my luck.

Confirmed Run as Administrator. I just did this and it works. Right click and under Open is Run as Admin. Do this, imput pw and it works.

Sorry for posting the whole thing, but I am at a lose... I have virtually no hardware knowledge. When I play, after a random amount of time (2 seconds - 2 hours) my entire computer freezes. The last .5 seconds of sound repeat endlessly in my headset, and my moniter goes black, forcing me to reboot. I've waited for like 10 minutes to see if it was just stuck for a bit, but nothing fixed. Please help...

I can't play in Vista 64 on a quadcore cpu. The screen goes white and just locks up. It does this randomly, sometimes when selecting my server, sometimes when in the game. I successfully installed the suggested hotfix, it made no difference whatsoever. I have the newest drivers. I have played many MMOs, all maxed, with zero issues. I can play Crysis maxed to multiplayer high graphics games with no problems. Kind of sucks I can't use my Vista 64 in CoH.

Luckily, I have Xp installed as well, so I just play it there. However, it'd be nice if I could use Vista 64. Any final suggestions?

Inspiron 1525 laptop with Vista....run COH/V for about 45 minutes then it crashes. This is my g/f's account so I'm doing the tech thing for her. I've been playing COH since launch and never had this problem. Finally got her to try it out and she LOVES it, but the crashing thing is obviously a problem. Please help save my relationship...lol....I have the girl of my dreams and she wants to game with me, but Vista is standing in the way.

I will install XP on this machine if I have to, because if there isn't a fix we will totally go back in OS time. At least I know how to tame XP, but Vista is a totally different beast that I have almost no experience with. I fear change!!!! Anyway, please help us so we can game together and I can earn me some nookie via COH.

Hey folks, Just got back into the game after taking a break and I was pretty bumed when the game start crashing every 10 min or so. Glad I stumbled onto this. I DLed the hot fix(the 1 from october I believe is the one I was supposed to) but the games still crash. Is there any other step I need to take that I am missing. any help would be greatly appreciatted.

P.S. Also I have both windows xp and vista on my system and it crashed on both OSs. could I have a problem with something else as well?

Is this hot fix just for people with NVIDIA cards? Or will it work for ATI users as well?

[/ QUOTE ]

It should be pointed out (as I believe it has been elsewhere) that Firefox users should switch over to another browser, such as IE, to get their hotfixes as Firefox is incorrectly reporting what system you have. I'm on a 64-bit box, but it thought I was on a 32-bit and only gave me the two (Oct and July) hotfixes for 32-bit systems. But copying the link over to IE, I was able to get the 64-bit hotfix... which, after installation, is jamming up my 64-bit Vista w/ 9800 Nvidia system even faster than before. Booyah!

[/ QUOTE ]

Ohms, you have saved my subscription and my sanity. Thank you, a million times thank you!

I have been applying hot fix after hot fix trying to resolve this issue, and yes, I'm a dedicated Firefox user. I have been pulling my hair out over this, and even went so far as to uninstall my video card, wipe out all the drivers, and start again. And still nothing.

But then I saw your post, and I downloaded this hot fix with IE instead of Firefox, and now everything works perfectly. And I was thisclose to unsubscribing for a while until an official fix came down the line, not because I don't want to play the game, but because I couldn't play the game in an enjoyable manner for an acceptable length of time. But I was able to play all day yesterday with no problems at all, and it was wonderful.

Again, thank you for that extra info about the browsers. I think that should be included in Ex's original post.

Largo, it cant hurt an ATI system and is definitely worth trying.

Norious, please post that and your hijackthis information in a new thread for others to help you with.

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

I was having crashes with CoH and some other games, but this is the first mention of this hotfix I've seen on anyone's forums. I downloaded it today, and played for about an hour without a CoH crash which sadly was unheard of on this new Vista box.

Static, new thread please....

Dizzwon, normally I wouldnt have thought anything of yours except that my own system went no-video twice last night out of the blue. However I think i know why MINE is unstable and its unlikely to be the cause of yours. Get your coh helper and hijack this logs into a new thread please.
