SYMPTOMS
Consider the following scenario. You are running Windows Vista or Windows Server 2008 on a computer that has multi-core processors. A driver on the computer calls the MmProbeAndLockPages routine asynchronously. In this scenario, data corruption may occur.

This problem occurs randomly. It typically occurs when the following conditions are true:

* The computer has some graphics processing devices installed.
* You are running a graphics-intensive application.

When this problem occurs, the system or the application may crash. The actual symptoms vary, depending on the specific drivers that are installed on the computer.

I should point out real quick that Vista Service Pack 2 contains this hotfix. SP2 is currently in open beta test so you can install it if you are feeling brave but I really wouldn't recommend it. Hopefully SP2 will go live in coming weeks.

(Of course, Microsoft Campus has to dig itself out of the snow first. )

Actually in your case this is your problem

Mobile Intel(R) 965 Express Chipset Family

That is a video solution not a real video card. Its good enough for doing papers and such but nothing you want to run games on.

Bump and Grind Bane/SoA
Kenja No Ishi Earth/Empathy Controller
Legendary Sannin Ninja/Pain Mastermind
Entoxicated Ninja/PSN Mastermind
Ninja Ryukenden Kat/WP Scrapper
Hellish Thoughts Fire/PSI Dominator

Thank You Devs for Merits!!!!

Actually, the hotfix is for both 32 and 64-bit users. 64-bit users seem to benefit from it more often, though.

when I pull this page up, I get two hotfixes listed. Do I install both and if not, which one?

Fix245313

and

Fix233686

Expand the details, you want the one from October.

Posted

thank you =)

It's weird it doesn't list dates for me unless if it's in the File Name itself. (like drivers for video cards) When I select see additonal info it just expands the selections a little. But I do see the File Name: Fix245313 listed as x64 which I suppose I can try. I have Windows Vista 32bit but Zloth said the x64 should still work with it.

Oh my Lord. Someone on Virtue United linked me to this and it solved my problems INSTANTLY.

Posted

ok, cause I'm having problems getting it to unzip the files correctly. gives me error code 40. and just another quick question, or statement rather. I run WoW at pretty much full capacity with the same system that I posted in the previous post. I really don't see how it could be my video card. Guess I'll just have to wait for SP2 for vista and see what happens then. thanks again.

Yup

Ex, you might want to explain to people how to get the 32bit and the 64bit version of the hotfix on that page. If my memory is good, there is a link "see all files" just over the box where the hotfix is located ( after clicking on the request link)

I clarified how to get the files in my other thread, including posting a screenshot, although its out on page 5 or such I think.

It should be pointed out (as I believe it has been elsewhere) that Firefox users should switch over to another browser, such as IE, to get their hotfixes as Firefox is incorrectly reporting what system you have. I'm on a 64-bit box, but it thought I was on a 32-bit and only gave me the two (Oct and July) hotfixes for 32-bit systems. But copying the link over to IE, I was able to get the 64-bit hotfix... which, after installation, is jamming up my 64-bit Vista w/ 9800 Nvidia system even faster than before. Booyah!

I'm so gonna get in trouble for cross-posting...

For Vista 32 bit users:
Windows Vista All (Global) x86 sp2 Fix245313 Vista 6000 2529929 10/22/2008 12:25:04 AM

For Vista 64 bit users:
Windows Vista All (Global) x64 sp2 Fix245313 Vista 6000 3177788 10/22/2008 12:26:21 AM

Open the hotfix page with IE. All other browsers are mis-reporting.

Once its open, FIRST click "Show hotfixes for all platforms and languages" and THEN click "Show additional information". It takes TWO clicks to fully expand this menu to see all the details. (If you dont see it expanding you may have a slider bar as well.)

Screenshot

The 245313's are the October (v2) copy of the hotfix, those are the ones you want, but you have to be very careful to get the correct one for your OS. If you get the incorrect one, when you try to install it it will tell you this patch is not for your system. That tells you you got the incorrect one.

This is gonna be my last post in this thread. Theres no reason for me to need to be posting all this twice.

I believe they put a password on that zip. The web page tells you what it is. (No clue why they do that.)

As for WoW, well, yeah. I think some of today's pocket calculators can run WoW. It's most certainly not graphically intense. Plus this thing is a timing issue, which makes it hit pretty randomly. One person could have no trouble at all with CoH while having an awful time with Fallout 3. Another person could have that reversed.

I'm getting error code 40 as well. Opened the link using the IE browser, to no avail. Am entering password as provided by email. Any suggestions?

I'm having the same problem. I got my email last night, clicked the link and when I went to enter the PW, nothing happened.

According to the email I recieved, the PW changes every seven days. I noticed that the 14th (today) is the scheduled date for the change to the new PW which was included in the same email. Neither the "old" PW nor the "new" one worked when I tried it last night and I am assuming that it's because of a delay of sorts in the change process. Pure speculation on my part though.

I've been trying for a few days now, and got a friend to DL and verify it wasn't just me. He had no luck either opening the zip with the pre 14th PW. I reDled it today after midnight pacific and the PW in email had changed to the expected 14th one. I crossed my fingers that it might work. It didn't.

It's getting just a tad more annoying than the actual crashes.
