How do you use the "Masking" feature?

Hey, that's pretty neat... now I just have to remember to log into facebook now and then.

Posted

I'm in. Around the 169 mark I think.

Will they let you change the background color? All that white is pretty harsh on the eyes.

EWW FACEBOOK!! *hissssss*

On the other hand.. the more capes, the more fun we can have. *evil grin*

Yeah, I find myspace to be a little more feature rich, (didn't have to break up my character history to get it to fit.) Then again, I am not familiar with facebook, and I'm probably missing something.

Well.. my problem with Facebook comes from a more personal note.

I'll add this when I get the motivation to check my page again.

Look at it this way folks. Marketing... Good.

We're sorry. Due to the lack of adequate marketing, user patience has died 90+ days ago. Please try again sans "Soon."

I guess this is cool. I dont have Facebook and I dont forsee me getting an account just for CoX. Probably also why Im not that excited about it. Nice that they did this though.

I'm pretty sure community reps don't program XML database front ends. That's another person's job

I wonder how many friend requests Ex and Lightie are going to have within the next few days

it was encouraged to create a Facebook profile for your character, as I have done. That was what we meant when we say a "masked" profile.

I just added myself as a fan. I also have a Myspace account, but I've been much more active on Facebook. I've found it a lot easier to find people I know in real life with Facebook than through Myspace. In fact I happened to reunite with my old high school sweetheart through it, and while she turned out to have moved in with someone else since I last saw her, we're still friends and still stay in touch through it.

Added as a fan.

Someone should probably should look to link in the non-official CoH/V pages on Facebook.

Ah. Thanks for the explanation!

But IIRC, fictional accounts of any kind are explicitly against Facebook's TOS, so they're likely to be removed if someone reports them.

You might not want to encourage this as a feature for legal/publicity reasons.

So,

Did anyone comment yet about how they're sorely disappointed in the scaled-down implementation of the City Vault? No?

Well, it's a step up from the MySpace page.

But honestly, it'll be nice when that new NCSoft cash finally funnels down into a real marketing budget. I mean, I know LARP designers with better marketing strategies. Ferchrissakes, my friendly neighborhood comic book store can afford to advertise on local cable.

Seriously. Showing up at cons and relying on social networking pages are the marketing techniques of 2 guys working out of Mom's basement as they try to sell their independent comic. You folks can do better than that.

Right now, superheroes are shining brighter in the public eye then they have for decades. Dark Knight is about to become the second highest grossing money machine of all time. People are being arrested in villain makeup. The Dark Knight phenomenon is a tide that should be lifting every super boat in the ocean. And if NCSoft can't find some better way to surf that wave than this, then that's just sad.

I dunno. I guess every little step helps. Congrats to the community rep team for making something out of nothing. But what's next? Homemade fliers posted on telephone poles? Bulletins sent home in the PTA folder?

Step it up a notch, guys. Opportunity is pounding on your door and you're just peeping through the mail slot.

I don't do Facebook. Sorry.

When I signed up for Facebook for my college network, I did what I always do online...use my online name. Facebook destroyed my account over this. I emailed support to argue. Useless. They won't keep your account with a fake name. I won't give them my real name.

If I can't hide my offline identity, I refuse to sign up for it. The only exceptions are where I am using my credit card ie. Ebay, Paypal, CoH/V.

Although I understand where the Marketing Dept. is going with this, I won't be a part of it.

I can't express how silly this is. Yes, I am thrilled that CoX is doing more to get its name out there. Facebook though? Facebook and Myspace are abominations.

Personally, I have never seen any Facebook or Myspace site that didn't look like crap. They are always either completely bland, or have so much CRAP all over them, that you can't see anything useful.

Hopefully no one at NC^2 is spending much time working on this. I think it is a complete waste of time. Unless they have decided to completely scrap the Vault. Then they might as well have some other community site.

And that right there sums up my general sentiment. People want City Vault...this feels like some kind of 'we're sorry you didn't win but here's a nice parting gift' thing.

Whats the point? If City Vault can't be done...just say so...but I don't know what the point of Facebook and Myspace pages are for a major MMO. Perhaps I've missed something. This just seems pointless.

It's using external social networking mechanisms to keep customers tied to CoH/V.

As an example: someone might drop their CoH/V sub, but probably won't delete their CoH/V fan connection and might drop by now and again when on Facebook to check what the updates are.

Also, it's a low hurdle for marketing that works to CoH/V's international audience.

But it's a cool-looking bland version!

Anyway, sorry, I'm not making a facebook just to add you guys.

Obviously, you're generalizing. Lots of people are hidden on Facebook. Unless you're my Friend, you can't see my page. I have very little applications on my fb page. I find that they are too busy and contrived.

The good fb and MySpace profiles are usually the ones that no one ever sees.

I also met my bf on FaceBook. I use it to keep in touch with friends I would otherwise never talk to or lose touch with because they live in Ottawa or Toronto.
