All I can think is that your e-mail host may of stopped it before it hit your actual account or it's how you have things set in your filter.
I know I got it properly, but Thunderbird was wondering if it was spam or not...

RE: the live event
Casual players ain't on test, yo.
In a more verbose fashion: I realize that CoH is a very friendly game to us casual folks, and I don't mind the occasional hardcore fanservice. Y'all go have a good time with your $10 wedding packs.
BUT... it's never fun to be so obviously disinvited to party with the cool kids.
I look forward to the resumption of normalcy, ie. events which are advertised more than 2 days in advance, last longer than 3 hours, and don't require some new installation of software.
Let us not even bother with the fact that only a fraction of a percent of the hardcore CoH folks will actually get in- these other hurdles block me and players like me far more effectively than some usher ever could.
So, in the future, Ex, Lighthouse- could we have more community building please, and less community exclusion? I believe that is your job, yes?
[/ QUOTE ]
Casual,
I'm going to be honest with you, that both Lighthouse and I raised our concern flags over this event. The main reason was the limitations of the event. We also knew that it would be a really great time for the people that do get in, and a creative opportunity for some of our various community groups, like video editors, DJ's, role play, etc.
It was a tough decision, and with the wedding pack, server upgrades, double XP, and the list goes on, our window for announcements and planning was narrow.
Herein lays the beauty of this event. I will not be attending the wedding, both Lighthouse and I will be in Pocket D, or surrounding areas of the game participating in some fun Valentines Day Events and activities all promoted, planned, and made possible by members of this community.
Who knows maybe even folks out for Vengeance Day will have some fun, or get a good gank!
Pleasing everyone is impossible, but we do our best to share the fun as much as we can, without limiting events just because we can't reach everyone. I'm keeping my fingers crossed, my suggestion box open, and my calendar handy to see what fun things we can cook up for the coming year.
So lets get in there and have fun!

um, I was just on test server, and I'd say there's over 100 people at the usher pushing and shoving each other for the wedding event that hasn't even started yet. There's gonna be some mighty ticked off heroes...

The last emails I received where the thanks for purchasing wedding pack, and the upgrade email. I didn't receive a notice about double xp or the wedding/spring fling. I had a conversation with a long time vet, wednesday morning about the wedding edition. They new nothing about didn't get an email either. So its not just me.

The issue is not client-side. There is something wrong with your bulk email distribution. Have your people check it and don't just assume that the problem is our fault.
I find myself incredulous at the fact that I'm arguing for getting bulk mail, lol.

Funny thing. Hallowed and I are long-time sg mates and joined the game at roughly the same time. I GOT the message, and he didn't. Even though we usually get the notices at roughly the same time.
Actually I've gotten emails from you guys just fine in the past and you're flagged in my address book as not-spam. I've opted to disable all web-based spamblocks and let Thunderbird do my sorting for me.
I didn't get a 2xp announcement or a Valentine's one either. So yes, I think you need to look into your service.

Your email service might have them grey listed. When they send an email your service would bounce it back. They have x amount of time to retry, which would be accepted and they would be added to the list of "good" sites. Many bulk email systems(and spammers) dont retry after the first attempt. They would never be allowed on the "good" list. When you purchase an add on, it likely is acknowledged by a different service.

I'm glad to see that you and Lighthouse are on top of things and are spreading the love as best you can. Like I said, I realize that not every element of the game is meant for every player.
It's just that this event seemed to be so... in-your-FACE with its exclusivitiy that I thought I should pop up and say something for the less-involved. I think you're both aware enough of the consequences of one segment of our community (I'm thinking of our hard-working Test Server players now) becoming perceived as developer favorites that you won't let such a perception take hold. Just stay aware that events like this push that perception in the wrong direction.

Should I even discuss the irony of a member of the F*hrmf* *Cough*rtel claiming to be a casual player? It's not like it's a badge of honor, man- if I could play more, you know I would.
As for me personally, I'm off to a fancy dinner with the wife. It is Valentine's Day, y'know.
Statesmonkey Sez: Lighten up! It's a game, for Lincoln's sake!
Also: Six years of casual play begins to look an awful lot like one year of hardcore play.
Now to be fair Casual, V-Day is in itself an exclusive holiday. Glad to hear you made the correct choice, between game and RL.
For the hopeful participants in life's events may they get all the love they deserve, for those of us out in the Verse, we do what we can to make life shiny.
We are in game, participating in the Chaos of the day.

I'm a tolerant guy. I understand the nature of waiting in line to get into an event. However, I have to say that I'm not entirely satisfied by the manner the wedding event has been handled.
1) If you wanted us to line up in lines to enter the event then put in controls to direct the people. Rope lines, funnels, any sort of crowd control would be nice. I laughed like most when Castle KO'd people close to the Usher in Atlas. I even got him to laugh when I said it was like "Look! It's the WHO!" [that's an old person joke for all the folks under 30 based on a crowd stampede at a WHO concern years ago ]. You need better crowd control for events like the wedding.
2) The equity of the access to the event was lacking. Making it "whoever can click on the Usher through the effect of the Force Bubble" lacked balance. Why did this happnen? Not thinking through the methodology of accessing the event is why. Plan for orderly entry next time. The shotgun approach is a poor substitute for proper planning.

I'm standing, right now, on the first stair - where I've been since we were told to "Form a line," what, over an hour ago.
Haven't moved.
How is this being handled?
- Watch for Castle to start a force bubble, shoving everyone (everyone the client can draw, at least) back.
- Pray you see it in local when he yells "Go!"
- Make mad rush to the usher, hope you can click on him before it fills.
So, the folks doign what we're *asked* are getting penalized. The people being a mob are getting in.
Very, VERY poorly planned and handled.
Whew, I was in the first event, and that was quite a fun distraction.
I Hope everyone else had as much fun as I!

Completely agree. The mob rules the entry to the event. If you do as you're told, forget it, the Devs didnt' set up a way to actually control the crowd in a way that doing as instructed is actually meaningful.
Ideally (and I seriously doubt the tech exists for it) these events would work off a random lottery. 15 minutes before the event opens for "seating" you can go click the contact. He assigns you a "number." When the event seatign start,s the system randomly pulls 100 numbers, those people get in. No mobs, no pushing, no shoving. Once you click the contact, you're done and can go about your business until the next seating is announced (if you didn't get in).
Failing that, a forced line. A single, narrow corridor with a low celing with the contact at the end. No pushing or bumping (course, it would have to be able to accomidate about 150 people in a line, so logistical troubles are still a concern).
Failing that, iron fisted "watchers" who look for people not doing as instructed and server boot them (or a 24 hour server ban from test). It's extreme, but it will do the trick.
Basically, we all knew this event was going to be "dog eat dog" and "right of way goes to the biggest [censored]." The Devs should have as well (it's not like they don't see the zone numbers shoot up when just one shows up in the D on a live server). Sadly, they failed to plan accordingly.
Ex, Lighthouse, devs et al:
I don't normally complain about a whole lot, but... seriously. This year's "Spring Fling" (it's FEBRUARY, that's WINTER)/Valentine's event, is, in a word I can actually post here, lackluster. It's all essentially a fourteen day advertisement for something that occurs only for three days on day number one, all dedicated to the character played by the team's writing guru. Sure, grats on the IC marriage guys, but why not do this where the RPers gather: Virtue? Or, set up some automatic version for the later days? (Too late for that I know, but it could've been in consideration.)
The worst part though? The new mission. Singular, mission. Yes, there's one for each side, but a single mission? Okay, Baby New Year is a single mission, but BNY is unique, with a memorable character and map and an enemy set not seen at any other time of the year. But a bland ol' warehouse versus Arachnos for seven glowies is... severely underwhelming to say the least. The clues from the glowies measure out at a whopping one sentence apiece, and their not even complete sentences! The mobs in the mission are as mute as a old school RPG hero, there's no named boss to speak of, and the only interesting thing is, there's finally some tie in with the books and other concepts spoken of outside of the game.
For future reference, and mind you, I'm but one player so take it how you will, please, please, PLEASE, put some extra effort into things, especially if most of the stuff that should have been event rewards or tie-in bonuses are gonna cost extra to the players. Sela or Cela or Zela or whatever her name is in Atlas needs something of substance inside that warehouse. Otherwise, it's a waste of time, as the mission spoilers are already on the boards, and they're the missions only real reward.
So, yeah, a few hundred people get to see the real Valentine event, while the thousands of the rest of us have one craptacular new mission and a repeat of last year to blitz through for old badges. Sure, it's an "exclusive" holiday, but, still, that's a little TOO exclusive for as awesome as events usually go for Co*.
Good luck next time, and give us another event when spring really gets here, because February is cold in the northern half of the US, unlike for you guys who went from Austin to Cali.
Still an hour an a half to go on the event, so if you are feeling clinched in Atlas or Mercy come on over to Pocket D, the ski slopes are open, we are wiggling with DJ Zero, and just having a good time.
Sadly not everyone that shows up is going to get to see this event. We know that, we are doing our best to keep things maintained but there is a lot of people that came out today so all we can do is try to run the event as many times as possible.

Ex, power deactivation was FORCED upon people waiting for entry in Atlas Park. All powers were deactivated within around 100 feet of the Usher. Being polite by not using powers was a standard for mature users, but the forced deactivation of powers made sure everyone was kept in control. Personally, I support the decision to do the power deactivation. However, that wasn't enough crowd control to make the event flow smoothly for everyone.
