I expect you hypocrites to go to the Tank and Test Server sections and tell everyone the changes to Tanker's Ice Melee set aren't needed. They were critical of the Developers and wanted some action taken.
Oh wait. That's what happened here. They announced the login restriction a day ahead of time, and some people said something initially. Then they lowered the tolerance on the fly (which is the part I didn't like) and more people complained. Some people (me and a bunch of people on TS) got forcibly DC'd from the server. Then they took action and put the cap back up again.
Go back to where you came from.

Edit: To be clear, I can understand its frustrating. But, really, I never saw a GAME as being something to be so emotionally invested in as to pitch such fits over... Locked out of my server? I'd go play around on another server for a bit. Or find another game to play for a while. No big. It's a game. A hobby. Something to entertain myself with. That's it.

Funny. After the cap was unlocked, the server playability was pretty fine IMO. And we ended up capping it again; I was able to play through that, and yeah, global chans took a powder, but overall it was playable and "gaming as usual" here on a 2xXP weekend.
The problem was the arbitrary decision to just lower Freedom's cap to "ensure optimal performance", when every OTHER server kept their caps normal. It wasn't that the server was crushed to its knees; we hadn't gone down. They wanted to make the experience "more smooth".
Since the majority of those players were PL teams in RWZ, GV and PI, what does that tell the Freedom natives? The Devs were locking them outta their homes in favor of the PL crowds.
But pretty much all of you non-Freedomites that posted here don't get it. You have this one chance a year (God HELP us if they do another double XP weekend like this!) to kick Freedom in the 'nads while we're down, and the most despicable of you took to it with fervor. "Cry some moar?" Hey: When you're lamenting your dustbowl servers for the REST of the year, we'll remember it with a derisive snicker, cuz nearly every single response from a server foreigner in this thread has been overwhelmingly negative. It's the absolute nadir of what I expect from quality gamers, and flies in the face of the perception of the CoX populace as being one of sportsmanship and top-notch dedication to its players.
You know what? Go ahead. Demonstrate to everyone on Freedom, and the Devs, and the other servers, how petty you can be. For players who have the backbone to be supportive or sympathetic, like Quarktease or some Championites I've heard discuss our situation, my hat's off to you, and it helps to hear encouragement and camaraderie.
The rest of you will just have to enjoy my spite. If this is the attitude outside Freedom, then I'm scrapping my idea of a year-long server tour right now. It'd be money ill spent.

If you can't play because you keep disconnecting, you still can't play. If the servers crash instead of being gated, you can't play -- only now they won't have DB corruption issues, character rollbacks, and other problems. And the server crashes were not "occasional". I remember multiple crashes everytime they did the 2x weekend.
The other problems, though, were just as bad if not worse. Last time I tried to play on Freedom during a 2x weekend, we'd have someone drop from our team every time we zoned -- usually a different somebody each time -- and periodically during actual missions. Instead of simply preventing people from logging in, the server seemed to just randomly dump people that it couldn't handle anymore. Dropping people who are already logged in is not better than keeping people out who haven't logged in yet.

If you want to play on the busiest server you need to accept the fact that it will occasionally be too busy to play on. This has been true in the past with 2x events, it was true as recently as the Rikti invasion. The only difference now is that instead of people being dumped by the server because of instability, the folks who are in are actually able to play.

Read what folks are writing in this and the other thread. The vitriol and anger from a lot of long-time players is why I spoke up. Freedom has been my home for 36 months (and I've been playing with RO for less than 8 of those). My highest-level character is still on that server -- and that's still the only server I have where I play hero side regularly.
I can sympathize with folks who want to play a certain character and can't, because that's been true for me too. If they were just coming here to cry about it and not blaming anyone but their own selves, I'd offer a consoling shoulder. I've been there before. I'm still there. I'd love to get my 40-something 'troller closer to level 50, but she's on Freedom. The difference with me though, is that I did something about it.
This problem should have been obvious to anyone who's played on Freedom or Virtue during a 2x weekend. You just have to choose to not be a victim and take what control over the system that you can. For myself, I chose to roll new toons on a different server. Other folks didn't choose to do that, and now a lot of them are making unreasonable demands and unfair accusations. That's what I have a problem with, and I have just as much right as anyone to speak up about it.
OK Flame Away, But any one dumb enough to transfer their toons on to the busiest server gets what they asked for. They are now on the busiest server, which means that there is a chance that the server may end up at capacity when it it busiest. DUH! Gosh why won't my shoe fit on my head. I don't know because you are a moron? Also other servers do exist, if even half of the population on Freedom would transfer to less busy servers no one would ever have to complain about finding people to play with on any server... Oh well, I guess sheep will be sheep!

All the hypocrits who have come over to tell us that we should make toons on other servers, who have come over here with all their negative BS should just go back to where they came from. I do have toons on other servers, but my FRIENDS and SG are here on FREEDOM, I have toons here that I specifically waited for this weekend to run with, that I planned events with my SG for...why would I try to work on another toon (on another server) I made out of boredom?
Monday, Freedom will be back to what it was and you people can go back to slugging through the game on a dead server.

I haven't been visiting the forums the past couple of days. Wow, I had no idea some of our fellow Freedomites were having this much of a problem getting into the server.
I have been playing Friday night, and most of today (Saturday, from sometime after lunch till about now) in Freedom. But I did experience the server being greyed out a couple of times when I was switching characters, but I just kept relogging and trying a few times till a spot would open and I got in, which only took a minute of persistent trying.
But when I did see Freedom get full and go grey for the first time, of course thinking that there will be people who'll have to keep waiting/trying until a spot opens (which I know is frustrating), a part of me also thought... wow the devs improved the servers and increased the server size, and Freedom still got full? A part of me couldn't help but chuckle a bit at that fact.
I had a feeling before that there was a good chance the server cap would still be reached, but I had no idea it would be constant enough during peak times that it would cause this much of an outcry.
Aside from the suggestions already presented in this thread, my only suggestion, which is basically just for playing this Sunday, is to try to log-in during off-peak hours, like in the morning and early noon. And if you do still end up having to see Freedom in the grey (like you DC'ed or really have no choice but to play during peak hours), then just keep trying to login.
And remember (for those who don't know), that server list page after logging in your username and password, doesn't update itself every second. You have to go back into the login screen and enter your information again, and keep doing that until you see Freedom in red. It might take a few seconds or perhaps a long while, but luckily I have been able to get in quite quickly when the situation showed itself.
Anyway, my symphathies go out to my fellow server mates who weren't able to login. And here's wishing you all for better luck on getting in this Sunday and finding a slot on our server to play.
