I told them all that it needed to be included, but they all just laughed.

You know, as stupid as this might seem to some, the thing I liked best was Chris' advice to the players to take some time to appreciate real life every now and again. While I count myself fortunate that both I (and my husband) know when to turn the game off and spend time with family, friends, and each other, it's good to see that others know how to do the same, and encourage people to follow that example.

Once again I seem to be the one to question the puzzle and its rules/goal. I assume this is a basic jig-saw type puzzle, but had to ask. At first when I looked at it, I thought it might be the type where there's 1 spot blank, and you have to move the pieces around (can't remember what it's called atm).

For future reference, (just like the sudoku) some small box explaining the puzzle of the week.

It's not a puzzle. It's for people with insect eyes. They see it just fine

Given that I had to knock that together in under 30 minutes or not have a puzzle page, because the player submitted puzzle I cleaned up for this week was rejected for content. All the while I am in the middle of a final project that is due Sunday (School on Sunday? Blech!) I humbly ask that you give me a break.

Also, unless you can get a static image to move, I don't think that you will have any success moving the pieces around.

Not every puzzle has to be given instructions. Take the Silos puzzle for instance, zero clues, yet it was the buzz of the forums.

In this case I figured if the average kid could understand what to do with the image, adults should as well. It really isn't a hard concept: make an image from the squares. I assume the readers of the scoop, and especially the puzzle page to fully understand some basic puzzle concepts.

And I am fully thinking that the next Sudoku of removing the instructions, as the only people that don't understand how to do them do not do them anyways. Also the instructions are everywhere you care to look from newspapers to the Internet. Google is tracking 62.2 million pages referencing "sudoku". At that point I don't think the 0.00000001% of the population on this planet that plays CoH/CoV and that doesn't know how will not CARE if the instructions are included or not.

Will there be other puzzles without instructions: Yes.

One of my teachers gave me a bit of some scary facts: People don't read body copy. The majority of people stop at the images. Only 30% of the remainder go on to read the headline. Only 15% of those actually goes on to read the body copy.

So far you have been the -only- person to ask for any explaination of the puzzles. If you feel you can do better, send me or any of the scoop staff something that can used instead. I am willing to take a look at any puzzle that is related to the game to include in the scoop. There have been very few submissions, and I have designed the majority of the puzzles myself.

Perhaps you should examine a real newspaper of some sort. They all have some sort of instructions for their puzzles, even if it is merely one to two lines long. Do most all the people who do puzzles know what they're doing and don't need the instructions? Most likely, yes. However, could there be one or two that don't? Also, likely.

Now, why would we (as a community) want to force those that don't to hit google for a minute or two to find instructions, when that could be avoided with a simple sentence at the top/bottom of the page?

[/ QUOTE ]

Perhaps then no puzzle for the week? I assume most of us have the mentality of RL > game, so your situation of a final on a Sunday would have been accepted, i would assume.

There has also been mention, from time to time, I believe by Ex, saying that for a print-able copy, or something like that. This could have been an example of that. Far-fetched, i understand that.

[ QUOTE ]

And I assume again that the idea behind the scoop is to try and make it some form of a "true" newspaper? Then why not spend the extra 2 minutes and put in 2 sentences of instructions? Not sure what's so hard about that. However, if there is some sort of coding or programming difficulty surrounding that, then i'll back off. Wouldn't know anything about that, so i'd concede to the folks that do.

*Doesn't seem much of a point deleting this as someone has already quoted what I said, but as a few fellow scoop staff have told me, this was a bit too explicit for the forums.*

We are a newspaper for Supers. If you don't have psychic puzzle figuring-outing powers, you should at least have some kind of wombat-computer to run it through.

Hell, I hear Manticore spent billions of dollars just to develop an arrow that would solve the daily crossword for him.

*as snow has removed the quote, so i will remove the quote*

So since I choose not to create a puzzle, I shouldn't offer any sort of opinion (positive or negative) at all, and should just shut up? Then what's the point of having a "discussion" thread in the first place?

If this week's "puzzle" were any simpler, it'd be the completed picture itself. (I'd say with "Cut here" around the edges, but that'd probably lead to someone sticking scissors through their monitor.)

Whoot! I was in a City Scoop. Nice articles this time though, liked all the Christmas stuff and gave me some recipes to try.

No, my point is the if you want to be a critic, try to put yourself in my place. You seem to be expecting the New York Times. Well, we are not. We are a FANZINE.

Given your repeated requests (which I feel are baseless, especially in this case), I would think that you continue to go to the puzzle page. For that I thank you.

On the other hand, like I said a few posts up, I doubt this will be the last puzzle that shows up without instructions.

I bet you would want me to put instructions on the crosswords too.

Simply put. It will not happen, you might as well resign yourself to that.

I didn't read through all the posts, so forgive me if someone else brought this up. Does it seem like manticore is trying to talk a bad guy (girl) into becoming a hero? Is issue 12 gonna allow heros to switch side and visa versa?

Alright everyone, that's enough of the flaming. This was a great issue of the City Scoop, and everyone did a great job. Yet another great piece of work from the City Scoop staff!
