Discussion: Respecs - Past and Present
I like this! Granted there's apparently no story reason for it (unless it's a "this hero's powers and abilities seem to vary based on who is writing this issue" thing), but it's otherwise pretty solid. It shouldn't be too difficult to get these, since they're available as drops and the market makes large amounts of inf available to everyone. Further, most people aren't going to need to go through these like candy, especially since a whole mess of respecs will be available to those characters anyway (trials, new issues, vets, etc.).
Really, these are probably going to be in lower demand than many current hot sellers (e.g. Miracle +Recovery), since they give you something that you can easily get a whole stack of anyway.
So what happens if I craft the recepie, then use the back button and cancel it? Do I lose the recepie and salvage, or does everything stay or is it not possible to back out once initiated?

Once it is crafted it is like any other free respec you have ever recieved during an upgrade to the game.
It doesn't use salvage just influence to make. You can only have one crafted at a time. and the reason they will be liked is you don't need to go to Galaxy to do the respec just type /respec.

Wow, make something easy to people and you still cry about it.
Why can't I stack them. Jeez its in the A pool recipe for a reason. At least we don't have to pay for them like WoW ppl do.
Okay I've been playing for only a year and have never used a respec. In fact I trully don't understand the benefit of them. Do you get to just rechoose the powers in your set, or the power sets themselves. Do you get all the enhancements back, how about slots. All of theses questions have kept me from using my free respec and getting more of them until I understand them is absolutly meaningless to me.

Okay- you get to re-choose the powers in your primary and secondary power sets. You do not get to re-choose your power sets. First you pick your powers up to your current lvl- then you go to the next screen and slot your powers. Then it takes you to the last screen and there is a box on the bottom of the screen with all the enhancements that you had in your powers at the time you decided to respec. You then take your enhancements and put them where you want them to go. Any enhancements you do not use you can sell back at the cost you bought them- cost of IO's vary as do various enhancements.
Powers first.
Then choose where you want your slots to go.
Then you place your enhancements.
I hope this helps.

Ahh...another item that will bring out the greed that has made some items unattainable at WW's...
I agree with another poster that there should be no need for unlimited respecs, but then again I hate respecs it is far to easy to screw it up. YMMV
I have on lvl 50 character and respec'ed him only twice, once because I5 made him [a tank] ineffective, and once in his 40's in order to bring taunt into my build. I have not respec'ed any of my other characters so far, and do not plan to unless there is some massive change made by the devs that affects them adversely.
This does not mean I do not appreciate the devs attempts to make the game better, and it they see this as doing that then so be it. Since they are recipes and there is no way to store them in your base it is not as good a thing as it first appears. I personally find highly unlikely that most people will be ready to use them when they get them. In my case they will most likely be given to friends who want to respec, or put up for sale on WW's at a much more reasonable price than I expect to see them selling for.
So, no freespec with the release of i11?

I'm very happy about this change, but there's one thing that bugs me.
We can't store recipes in the Vault. If I get a freespec recipe and want to save it for a rainy day, I've got to lose a spot in my already limited recipe inventory.
[/ QUOTE ]
Just park it in a Wentworth's slot. Yes, it still takes a slot but it allows you carry one more recipe.

Personally, I don't think, and hope, that freespecs will still be given out the 'normal' way...I'd honestly be surprised if a free one wasn't given out with I11, if nothing else so people can rebuild their brand-new dual blade and/or willpower characters.
I dunno, I like the respec recipe idea. Hopefully the things aren't TOO rare when they start appearing (since I'm not sure they're even dropping yet on test, I've yet to hear of someone getting one). I know I usually wind up respec'ing my characters at least three times during their 'lifetimes', I've enough veteran respecs for that, but it'd be nice to have an additional outlet for respecs

I like the idea in theory, but I do have a few thoughts.
First off, Posi mentions the original concern of the high cost 'gating' poorer users out of the process. Then at the end mentions how he thinks they might go for more than the Very Rare enhancements they're about to add even though they'll be not quite as rare as 'Very Rare'. Considering some people seem willing to pay 75 million for a 7.5% global recharge recipe this concerns me not just a little.
Also, will this now be viewed as 'the' source of additional respec thus removing future 'freespecs' with power-changing issue releases?
[/ QUOTE ]
The difference is now that the "poor" can participate by getting respec drops and deciding whether to use them or sell them for exorbitant prices to the "rich".
You get 3 respecs by doing trials + free respecs + veteran respecs. It's not like you can never get one otherwise. Respec recipies are definitely a luxury item.
I DO however expect to hear a lot of whining and moaning about storage and free respecs.
Horders will complain about losing multiple slots to respec recipies.
Why they chose to make them free respecs instead of earned baffles me. As it is you better NOT build it until you are ready to use it, even if it does take up space in your auction inventory. Otherwise you risk losing a free respec from the Devs.
I can only guess they were afraid of people stacking up lots of respecs on one character instead of being forced to use, store or sell. If they were earned respecs they prices for them would be even higher.

You can't please everyone, so lets concentrate on me.

Original article says "...they are not as rare as the new Very Rare Enhancements put into Issue 11...," but that's not my experience. Over the course of a couple of weeks of closed beta, I got 3 purple recipes, and no respec recipes. Bug?
[/ QUOTE ]
I don't believe the respec recipe was implemented and dropping for most of closed beta.

I strongly recommend not keeping these in Wentworths slots if they turn out to be expensive. Remember, anything you put in Wentworths, if you don't check on it for 60 days, it vanishes.
I've lost millions of inf and lots of items this way by not logging into that character and visiting the auction house for a couple of months! I'd hate to lose my respec too

I think this post needs to be reviewed by all. I myself did not realize that there was a sixty day limit on auction storage without logging on that character.

Well this is getting us closer to what alot of characters really want. A full and true respecification, whereas your powers mutated from some exposure and actually changed, such as your were energy blast, but due to some freak accident with power lines you have now absorbed electric powers. That is what I believe alot of the long time veteran players such as myself have wanted for a long time. BUt I would love to see it as a one time use power on your toon, once that toon has used it, it can never get it again, or maybe you could even implement it as something such as the rename or character transfer. I know many people who have played a toon to 50 and the whole way either hated their primary or secondary, but realized it so late they didn't want to reroll the toon.

Another thing to consider is that chances are, you'll have better chance of dropping any purple then this one respec recipe. Mainly because there are several purples that can drop, and only 1 respec recipe. However, a specific purple recipe is less likely to drop then the respec.
Also, this is something that every character can use at some point and most people will horde these. So the ones that do make it to the CH will be very expensive. That being said, I know I'll be selling mine.
this is nice but now i wish for a ONE TIME ONLY respec that allows you to respec your powerset so you have diff powers or if possible an AT respec

Interesting that the article notes that they desired a system that would not just be for the very wealthy toons, but then declare that this method will probably command a very high price...
