Ok, I may be howling alone at the moon, but why do the devs CARE how many times we respec?!? What's the big deal? It doesn't hurt the game if I change my stuff around, so why not give free specs as often as we want to? This just seems like a ego-tripping control issue to me.

Vets can make a mint...I have never done the respec trials, but have used 2 of my Vetspecs on some characters.

This is gonna rock!! I can see people payin a boat-load for these! /em GOUGE!

They don't want people to tailor their character to what they are about to do maybe?

The ability to change their power selections

Does this mean you dont have to reroll?

Say.... you're an MA scrapper, but then you wanna be a Claws scrapper, would this respec allow that?

Or is it just a normal respec?

I like the concept, a lot.

My only issue is - I'd like to see a better way to STORE recipes. An SG "recipe storage bin" would be very nice. Alternately, Recipe space in our personal Vaults.

It just bothers me a little that as the game has gone on we have seen some zones become less used, monsters get ignored and now respec trials might now go the same way.

Trial Pool D recipe rewards.

You'd be surprised at how popular respec trials have become precisely for this reason.

[/ QUOTE ]
I'd be very suprised, since I rarely see people ask about them and it always seems hard to form one

You can get them in other trials too. More fun trials, at that. Standing around for five minutes for the next wave because you took the last lot out quickly gets quite dull.

I just don't want respec trials to go the way of hazard zones and monsters. All it needs IMO is a shot in the arm, something utilising the kind of thing that the game can now do since it was put in.

The villian respec is extremely annoying.

and tedious, did I mention its tedious.

Orenbanga is not fun, never has been.

Yup. I had already decided that the Villain-side Respec Trial isn't worth the aggravation to ever do again. This just seals the deal.

I like the idea in theory, but I do have a few thoughts.

First off, Posi mentions the original concern of the high cost 'gating' poorer users out of the process. Then at the end mentions how he thinks they might go for more than the Very Rare enhancements they're about to add even though they'll be not quite as rare as 'Very Rare'. Considering some people seem willing to pay 75 million for a 7.5% global recharge recipe this concerns me not just a little.

[/ QUOTE ]

The thing is though everyone can get one for free, or very close to it, by playing the game. He said it is in the drop tables at all levels so everyone can get one it just takes pacience.

[ QUOTE ]
Also, will this now be viewed as 'the' source of additional respec thus removing future 'freespecs' with power-changing issue releases?

[/ QUOTE ]

Personally, I hope it means precisely this. After all we have been getting free respecs left and right. We get them with each issue (or with the majority of them) and we get them as vetrans rewards, now this.

Jeez, I barely ever use a respec. I don't know how some of you do it

My only worry is that this will make it even harder to get on respec teams, which I think has become harder since the vet rewards. Might it be a good idea to update the respec trials, to give people more motivation to use them?

It just bothers me a little that as the game has gone on we have seen some zones become less used, monsters get ignored and now respec trials might now go the same way.

I'm feeling your pain brother. Since I'm a 42+ month vet I have more respec than any of my toons could use. I have 3 servers full of toons and only one of them has used a vet respec so far. I also have 1 freespec saved for every toon (haven't used them since the last free one). I've only done the respec trial like 3 times and one of those was before any freespecs were given out. I've actually wasted respecs just to recoup the Enhancers in the powers to sell them, when I change my slotting for things like enhancement diversification. I figured why not use it, they were just about to give us a new one anyway. I can't count how many freespecs I lost because I didn't use them and we were given yet another free one.

As for a change to the respec trials, I have a suggestions. Make the respec trial give what it was origionally supposed to give. Origionally the respec trial was supposed to allow you to pick compleatly different powersets. It is even stated in the first strategy guide. At some point it was changed to only allow repicking powers.

I'm not sure why so many respecs are called for. I couldn't imagine changing my toons every time a new Issue came out.

Quick Reply sort of thing:
Would this affect the Respec trials?
Would this mean no more Vet Respecs?
Would this mean no more Free Respecs?
Is this going to be another scramble to look for low level and high level salvage, like the Temp Powers, or is it going to be set to low or high level salvage?

A short term solution can be to store it in one of your Blackmarket/Wentworths slots. It'll sit safe and sound without selling it if you don't put in a selling price, and recipes can be stacked up to a multiple of 10. Presto.. one slot holds ten respec recipes.

On a separate note, I'm sure Posi tried to watch his wording as carefully as possible on the "respec powers" part. Not as clear as possible perhaps, but every other mention in the article refers the recipe becoming a "freespec"; exactly what we have now. So I'd wager a 'No' to changing primary/secondary powersets. Just powers within the chosen sets.

Great new addition to an already fan-freakin-tastic Issue!

Not really, no.

There is something that is fundamentally important to any sort of choice theory, like would come up constantly in game design, called an opportunity cost. This means that while this choice does not explicitly cost something, it does cost you in that it precludes certain other choices. If you get a respec recipe, you can craft it, or you can sell it, and crafting it does essentially cost however much you could make by selling it.

For example, suppose respec recipes stabilize to a price of 100 million inf. That's probably what they're going to end up being, as Pool As, but that's an argument for another thread. Then your character gets one as a drop. You haven't just gotten a free respec, not really. You've gotten a free 100 million inf that you can spend on a respec, and you have to weigh whether you'd rather use the respec recipe or get what you can buy with the money it's selling for.

Only Positron can say something like this...

[ QUOTE ]
Our first idea was to simply allow you to pay Influence or Infamy for your Respec, with an increasing scale in price. The first one costs X, the second one 2 x X, the third 4 x X, the fourth 8 x X, etc. However, even if we put in decay (the price goes down if you don’t buy one in a while) the prices would still gate some users from accessing the content, while not being any sort of hindrance at all to very rich characters.

[/ QUOTE ]

And then think the perfect solution is to make it a drop that has to be obsessively farmed for, as a piece of loot that can go on the market for bids.

Because, that doesn't benefit the rich players or gate anyone -at all- does it.

I'm very happy about this change, but there's one thing that bugs me.

We can't store recipes in the Vault. If I get a freespec recipe and want to save it for a rainy day, I've got to lose a spot in my already limited recipe inventory.

[/ QUOTE ]

Just park it in a Wentworth's slot. Yes, it still takes a slot but it allows you carry one more recipe.

Agreed. This is the only problem I have with this. But you can store recipes in your WWs storage, but it takes up a sale slot.

True.

Mainly I'd like SG space, because then I can say "I'm lookignf or X set in Y level range", and others in the SG can drop said recipes into the bin for me - whle I, flipside, drop the recipes THEY are looking for, into the bin for THEM to take.

Oh, I know - the developers want us to use the market. Well, what, you don't think folks just give recipes, and even salvage, to their SG buddies already? ^_^ The bin would simply make it less irksome to coordinate who's online, and when, and for what.

I am happy that they have found a way to do repeatable respecs, but if they don't drop as often as 3 or 4 costume recipes combined they are going to still go for tens of millions (minimum, I am calling a settling price of 50 million), which would still gate out people who are terribly UNLUCKY and do not like to play until Kingdom Come hoping for a drop.

I never understood why Respecs had to be "rare" anyway. It is not like they make your character any better like Set IOs do. They just let players play with new powers and let people feel like they aren't "stuck" into a power they find little use for.

I still feel like a better solution would have been to just make the respec a repeatable reward from the TV trial (at any level) or to add a repeatable lv 45-50 trial, but at least we have something, and who knows, if people can be hit by lightning and win the lottery, make the unlucky can finally score an extra respec, lol.
