The money badges should allow the sale of items on the Market by now though. They will be easier to get, but it makes more sense.

[/ QUOTE ]

Be way to easy to farm out the money badges that way. We have badges for items sold now instead.

Ah well back to money badge grinding....

[/ QUOTE ]

So it could be farmed. So what?

We have other badges that get farmed, and that doesn't ruin the game.

And remember the Market takes 10%. So to farm a 2 billion Inf badge the game as a whole is eating 200 million Inf from someone. That's a lot. I'm sure the Devs would have no problem using the Inf badge as a means of fighting inflation.

Actually the damage badge for the villain accolade is not an epic badge (anymore). 10 million hitpoints is the last of the regular damage badges.

[/ QUOTE ]

Depends how you define "epic".
A badge that takes over 3 years of play to achieve without farming is pretty damn epic if you ask me.

Whatever you want to label it, there's a chance of getting 1 million damage naturally in a reasonable time, as opposed to having to farm 10 million for that accolade. THAT's the key issue, never mind the labels.

I personally dont want to see the existing badges "changed" simply because they are already here, set and have been achieved by players. Add badges but dont change the existing ones. Oh and;

- yes I feel they were set WAY too high
- yes I feel they dont make "sense" in many ways
- no I dont have MANY of them

Anyway, if asked, I would cast my vote for no change to the existing badges.

I rather like seeign posts with no reason for their opinion. They usually sound pretty crazy too. I bet the people with a view like Spit_Ball will throw a party when they finally get that epic badge and tout it in front of everyone.

I don't have any clue where the badges should be at myself.
It's a pain to get damage and debt badges for someone who likes being super and not dying.
I have written off the healing badges as something I'll do when everything else I actually want done is done if I don't get too bored or the game dies out.
The infamy badge is one of those things where people accept it because it can't be farmed, or at least is insanely difficult to farm. I would like it for completeness, but I don't even care for it really.

I really just do badges for completion or for my badge title. I so want Exalted for concept. but I haven't even gotten halfway to it on the one guy I got to 50.

This is a game, but the developers have coded it for the players who live it. The farmers and people who just don't do anything else have pushed it out of range for the rest. Players like Beef Cake are rare. The game makes more money off the masses that just get by.

Btw, I am an altakolic who just finally settled on a main hero and villain after 15 months. I wonder if the game will be around 5-10 years from now when I finally approach having all the badges. I certainly would stick around, but then the badges would still be rather lackluster.

Ummm, there IS a reason for my stance... Try the first paragraph of my post out. If thats not a "good enough reason for you then I am sorry you feel that way.

YOU choose whats important to you. Be an alt-a-holic if you wish. Play as much or as little as you wish and be happy with your choice. Just remember its YOUR choice. Thats how I view it anyway. The badges are what they are. They exist as they exist and there really is no reason to "change" the existing ones. ADD, but why change? The ONLY reason to change rather then add in badges is so that more people can get the "goods" easier. Yay! I say; Leave them as they are and add in more!. Yay again!

Oh and just a FYI; I wont "finally get" many, MANY of those badges because my badge character simply doesnt heal and also because I do not and will not AFK farm. Cant flaunt what I dont have yet you are correct in that I surely WILL flaunt the top tier epic badges when I happen to get one.... IF I get one. So what? And again, thats MY choice. Just as it is other peoples choice to AFK farm or play ONE character thousands of hours. Good for them and hey, cool this game rewards them for their trouble. Im happy with how I play and go about gathering the badges and I could care less that my character will never have the empath much less the fixer badge.

Thing is.... EVERY BADGE in this game *IS* accessable one way or another. You may like it or hate it but that doesnt change the fact. *IF* a change to the game came that made these epic badges unattainable entirely (i.e. stopping afk farming) then maybe change the ones NOBODY had achieved yet.... But too late for that. Well unless Beefcake is the only one with those top tiers, then maybe the devs could create a special one to account for his loss once those top badges were dropped down. Just a thought. But really, every badge that has been achieved should remain as it stands.

But... This is only MY opinion. Have a nice day

See, I think a lot of the casual gamers think that if a badge can only be achieved by a loophole, it doesn't matter if 1 or 100,000 have attained it. If a badge is broken, it needs to be fixed. 99% of the time any badge changes leave the badge on the character no matter the change.

By your reasoning, all the villains with Multi-Dimesional should have been left on those who got it, but those that didn't would be SOL. Sorry, that seems entirely irrational.

Badges have had their requirements altered in the past and it's caused no problem.
People with the original Reformed didn't throw a huge fit when everyone else had a better (even dare I say "more legitimate") way to earn it. Zookeeper was reduced and no one wanted Legacy Zookeeper to show they killed 9000 more Monkeys than someone else. I haven't seen one person complain about Isolator being even easier with Flashback.
So if they did the same thing for Epic Healing, what would the problem be?

As a badge collector i dont think any of the badges should be changed. The reason being is the there are those people who already have the badges, such as the epic heal, damage taken. Its not fair to those people that have already received the badges. I dont think they should lower the requirement for them just because people think its going to take too long to get. No epic badge is unattainable. Take a long time to get them, but thats why they are called epic badges.

There is a difference between Epic and broken.

No epic badge is unattainable.

[/ QUOTE ]
All Epic Heal and Bamage badges are unattainable through play or intended (by the developers) methods. Every single one of them. They are currently only attainable through metagaming and using broken game mechanics.

*edit:
Actually I've heard of a few healers that did hamidon raids daily for several months before Issue 9 get the Medicine Man badge. Given the lack of huge amounts of characters to heal and rez that came with those raids, and the fact that they don't happen very often anymore, I doubt that would be possible post Issue 9. Even so, that is months of post 50 play just to earn 50 million heals. Now multiply that by 200. That is broken.

I've heard of a couple of tanks at those same raids earn the 1st epic damage badge, and that is 1/10th the amount needed for immortal.

Snow_Globe is right. It's a simple truth. They haven't changed the badges already because plenty of people have found exploits to get the epic badges there. I think the final inf one is broken myself since even with the best strategy it still takes forever and a day to get. Beef Cake was the only person I ever heard of gettign the last inf badge.

HealingReaper, other badge collector's including the generally accepted king of badge-hunting, Beef Cake, don't mind the standards being lowered to attainable levels for players who don't go afk or exploit a mission over and over. It is actually proven that it takes too long to get by normal means. Some even take a really long time with the exploits.

Empath, 1 billion points healed!?! I don't even think you can take that much damage on most ATs even while getting both the epic damage and epic debt badges, and that would be as a healer with a very good heal.

Edit: Healing someone while they are going for debt is counterintuitive also. It seems the best way to get empath is to have two accounts with a taunt aura tanker or brute and an a healer right there also. That promotes a second account also, which most players can't do.

The inf badges do not take that long. Its fairly easy to get it in under a year if you are really working at it which seems right to me for an epic badge. I wouldn't have a problem with lowering requirements if they could find a way to close all the loop holes for everyone. Shutting down arena healing doesn't close the "imps in the lava" farming for controllers or MMs. Closing down damage farming would probably be harder. I realize that just because I can't think of a way doesnt mean it can't be done and if they can do it, great. I'm all for it. But I would prefer keeping the current requirements over giving one AT an insumountable advantage in getting the badge or nerfing them to the point where they lose their epic quality. But overall I would prefer closing all of the loopholes and lowering the requirements.

As a badge hunter who already has all the Epic Heal and Damage badges on their main, I wish to disassociate myself with this position. I can't speak for others, but I don't feel changing the badges would be unfair to me.

I'm lucky if I've gotten 25 million actual earned inf over many many characters including a level 50 with the 3rd inf badge. I have sold some pretty good things and gotten inf gifts also which may push me towards 50 million, but this is for 15 months already .

At this pace the last inf badge will take 80 times as much time as I've spent in game already, if I concentrate on one character completely.

<<Addressing multiple posts>>

Actually, and I could be mistaken, but I thought that only influence/infamy earned via npc defeats counted towards the badge. I was under the impression that gifts of inf and/or market transactions did not count. Again, I am not sure and would appreciate if anyone might clarify this for me.

Those who claim these badges are broken and who have or might want to claim this as such through dev quotes. Please direct me to that link.

I personally have not seen any statement as such from the devs. YES I feel they are WAY high but I also wonder if the devs really care that many of these badges require AFK farming or related actions. As such, it is difficult to assume they are broken if by virtue of claiming broken to mean "how" the must be achieved. Hell, I never once heard a dev claim that badges "should" be achievable through "normal" play. I mean, in terms of the epic badges. Let me know if I am incorrect.

To assume that the devs do NOT feel these are broken then wouldnt it be more productive to ask for more badges added instead of changing the existing stock? Im glad people who have them dont mind if these changes are made but have we heard from all? I will say this, "I" will have the top tier inf/inf badge sooner or later (Quarter of slider there now) and I absolutely DO NOT want it changed. There ARE people who DO have these badges in question now and to change them, even if they have in the past, is simply a grey area. Right or Wrong is up to the devs in this matter and in terms of this very debate how much more can truely be stated? The devs should make a decision either way and..... No decision IS a decision.

Oh yeah, and I DID get the original Zoo Keeper and was NOT happy that they changed it after the fact and made no compensation to those who had it already. Please be careful when using words such as "No One" or "not one person complained". THAT simply isnt true and cannot be stated as fact in any way, shape or form. Just sayin'

Depends on what you hear when people complain.

If you hear "I want a 6th healing badge and I want it easier", then yes, adding 6 more badges for healing 1, 10, and 100 HP could solve that.

If you hear "It's an impossiblly long time to get Empath" then addressing just Empath may make certain characters happy if they want something named Empath.

If you hear "It's an impossibly long time to get every healing badge in the game" then you HAVE to address the highest of all such badges in order to address that complaint. It wouldn't matter if there are 3 badges or 30 badges, if the problem is getting The Last One then you need to focus on that, not on distracting the issue with more in between.

Imagine some guy working really hard for a couple years and finally saving enough money to buy a Ferrari. Then further imagine that a few years later, the manufacturer decided that the car is too expensive and cut the sticker price by 50%. Now this guy went to the company's headquarters with a sign, picketing and protesting the lowering of the price because he feels that if more people can get what he already has, he will be "less special". He thinks that somehow that Ferrari not only makes his [Censored] larger, but when more people can afford the car it somehow cheapens his personal feeling towards it and that is unfair and intolerable. If fact, if they lower the price why doesn't he get "compensated"??

How sorry do you think most people will feel for such a person?

The only thing worse than devs making bad decisions is the hoard of fanboys and bootlickers that keep cheering them on.

I hate to tell you this, but influence gained from selling items or given to you do NOT count for the influence badges at all. The only influence that counts is that earned through defeating enemies or gained by completing missions, story arcs etc..

At that pace, yes that is true. So you need to find a way to get inf quicker. I went from 1 billion to 2 billion in under 10 weeks. Sure I have more time than most to play and I did nothing but gather inf in that time and I do not expect others to be as diseased as myself. That said, if you take an hour or two every time you play to gather inf, you can still get the last inf badge inside of a year. If you don't want to do that, well, its an epic badge and I think it should require special effort. There are plenty of badges that people can get in the normal run of play to 50th level. It doesn't bother me that there are some that take longer.

Though I don't actually have the epic badges in question yet (working on them), though even if I did I don't think I'd mind them being lowered (I'd actually probably be happy about it, since other people will have more fun with it (it's not just about me after all) ...plus, I have other characters to think about). My opinion on the matter is that any badges that require an unhealthy amount of activity, an exploit (regardless of how easy or "legitimate" the exploit may be), or any other "broken" behavior is not a well thought out badge, and I would be glad to see the requirements be lowered.

I can't speak for everyone, but me and many others I know collect badges because it's fun. And maybe a tiny bit of OCD, but mostly the fun. To get that shiney "Badge Earned!" message, regardless of how it was earned, is a thrill. To look at a huge badge list and reflect on how much time and effort was put into that character is gratifying. Badges make me happy. HOWEVER, there is a fine line between fun and tedium.

Working hard on a difficult badge and finally getting it can be a rush. I feel great. I'm happy that my hard work payed off.

Working my fingers off on a ludicrous badge (such as the epic badges in question, and perhaps a few other annoying ones) and FINALLY getting it doesn't quite get me the same rush. The thrill of the achievement would have been just fine a long time ago, but by this point it's not the same. It's not "Yes! I FINALLY got the uberspecialrarebadge!"... it's more of an "Ugn... I FINALLY got the uberspecialrarebadge... glad that's over". I know one or two people who have sworn never to step foot inside an Arena again, after having gotten Empath.

Tedium is not fun. Tedious badges are NOT FUN. This is a GAME. Things that are NOT FUN do not have a place here. The only excuse is if it were an obstacle, a stopgap of some kind to help separate the fun parts... but it isn't. Badges are a fun little side thing that has very little (if any at all) impact on the rest of the game. Such things should be fun, or non-existent. There's no point to having such tedious badges.

This is all in my own opinion, of course.

I hate analogies... But oh well...

Obviously your speaking from the position of NOT being the guy who forked out the dough. By your accounts, anyone who runs back to a store this time of year hoping to get a refund of the difference on an item after having bought the item saturday only to see it go on sale sunday is SOL in terms of compensation. I "could" go into as many analogies of when compensation and redress have been awarded in much the same types of instances.... But, thats why I hate anaolgies. They can almost ALWAYS be found to support either side.

Its just a matter of perspective and, in THIS situation, at least the side I agree with is being supported and validated by the Devs, <ahem> the peoples whos opinion actually matters for all intents and purposes. So, hey, knock yourselves out. I was only offering MY position no matter if it is popular or not. I mean, in case the Devs actually ARE reading this at least they know that not everyone shares the popular forum opinion.

Don't take silence as support or validation. That is as much as an assumption as you think about the "other side".

As to your earlier call for quotes to back up some statements with developer quotes: One of the interviews that CIT did with Positron and CuppaJo around the beginning of Issue 5 had Positron saying that he expected Empath only to be earned after 5 years (which after some math, and Enhancement Diversification fails to be possible). Sadly, I can't link to it as it is either gone from CIT's website, or extremely buried.

He also pointed out that the reason that healing badges would only count hit points healed (and that is indeed broken in the arena farms) was that the developers wanted to make sure that people could not auto the badge by sitting in Atlas Park spamming heals.

So instead of spamming heals in Atlas Park, people are sitting afk letting gladiator pets spam heals in the arena. Add to that the broken state that those heals are counting for targets at full health.

The reason for the continued developer silence could be a couple of things:
<ul type="square">[*] They don't want to bring attention to what they consider a bug/exploit until after it is fixed.[*] They can't get around to fixing it yet (very low priority).[*] They are still discussing it among themselves.[/list]
