ATI Issues and Settings Recommendations
For those that aren't watching the Going Rogue info thread, it appears that this particular sticky thread may be getting dropped when GR goes live.
After 5 long years, the graphics engine on our beloved little game might just start working equally for both ATI and Nvidia cards.
Find the thread. Watch the video. And then realize that the video you're seeing was apparently shown on a system with an ATI card.

I know it was a Crossfire system. Someone else told me it was using X2 cards.
Yes, water effects and bloom are no longer a problem for us.
Dark Watcher says my 4850 HD 1 Mb card will handle Ultra Mode with everything maxxed but one item, and unfortunately my swiss cheese memory won't let me recall the name of that feature.
Ken Morse was the one that initially gave me the good news that I'd been watching it on a Crossfire rig. I had asked him about it since I was wondering if I'd need to start saving now to be able to afford a new nVidia card before Beta started, but my ATI card will be fine. The next generation of ATI cards should show even more shiny stuffs.
If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.

I got a problem that is driving me up the wall. I am using a gateway laptop with vista. In the past the game would run ok but it would freeze up on me when I would click and drag items such as enhancements. In Sept I had to re-boot my computer to factory settings and re-load the game. When I did this I started getting very choppy movement and could not get the settings back to what it was prior to re-downloading the game. I figured I was missing some update, but while the game play was choppy the game was no longer freezing up when I would click and drag. This past week I downloaded a ATI update and now I am back to no choppy movement but freezing up again on click and drag.
My search-fu might be weak but...
How well does COH do with Crossfire using AFR?
Just bought my first ATI card, a Radeon HD 5770. I can't seem to get FSAA to work no matter what I do, enabling it from CCC does nothing. I guess I'll just have to wait until Going Rogue to get proper performance out of this card, but at least I know it's coming.

What drivers are you using?
I've been looking for a 5850, so I've been lurking around various tech forums. It seems that the 9.11 Catalysts are rather borked. If you're running the 9.11s, try finding a copy of the 9.10s and see if that helps any.
I sure hope it helps ... having to wait until GR for the game to function properly on an ATI card really sucks.

I just tried the 9.8 drivers. They don't work either. Leaving DOF, Water effects FSAA and Bloom disabled from COH and setting them from the CCC, there's still no change. FSAA just won't enable.

Leandro, are you also disabling Desaturation Effects? It causes the same problems as Bloom, Depth of Field and High Water. Having ANY of those 4 enabled will break FSAA.

While trying to solve my own ATi/LCD issue I cam across this page which has prior Catalyst DL's.
Prior Catalysts (Vista/Win7 64-bit)
I turn all specs to WIDE open, turn on FXAA to x4 and the ghost image goes away. All settings to max and it works great and I use the vista 9.7 drivers on my windows ultimate 7 rig. Peace.

Next question: Why in the world do I keep getting these crash errors while trying to start up City of Heroes using a Sapphire Radeon HD 3650 AGP card? I'm damn tired of downloading, uninstalling, cleaning and installing drivers.

I agree with Father Xmas, post a CoH Helper and HJT log in a new thread. They are much more useful to us for troubleshooting.
If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.

This isn't related to any specific ATI technical issue, but I thought I'd post it here.
For those wondering about ATI cards and Going Rogue, I just had a PM exchange with Dark Watcher. Two things of note:
1) The fixes to ATI-related issues (the inability to use DoF, bloom, etc.) will indeed be universal, so you do NOT need Ultra Mode enabled to take advantage of them. I know it seems obvious that they'd allow everyone to take advantage of bug fixes, but I just wanted to be sure.
2) If you're looking to upgrade to a new ATI card (the 5800 series, for example) for Going Rogue, or are just looking forward to enabling all the basic features on your current ATI card, you still have some time; the ATI fixes are made possible by a significant change to the game's rendering pipeline, and the code will only be available once Ultra Mode has been added to the game.

tru dat since a 5870 runs as fast as a 295, I would be looking forward to these fixes.
Be aware that the new 9.12 Catalyst drivers break CoX for some Radeon cards. The release notes say this is a known issue, but does not name which cards are broken.
