Poll: Issue 9 Breakthrough!

Eh- I like the invention system-

I actaully thought the tutorial could have been ALOT shorter- and I did struggle to pay attention to it- I mean how hard is it to say "Take components (salvage), and a Recipe to a university machine and make new enhancements, barring that you have the amount of influence"- Really how many pointless contacts did it give us? That we will never see again? Why so many stupid hoops to jump through?

Anyway- put down my favorite aspect is the costumes but, I would have to get one to enjoy it- so meh.

Overall opinion of I9- it's bloated- bloated full of junk that a player can't use (not the right type of recipe- "pet damage" for a blaster, so to speak)- so they take that junk to the consignment house to sell, hoping that another player will buy it- OR they take it to a store to just sell- that's what I do. It's stuff we really didn't need but we got anyway- it's there to use but it's not needed, so why have it at all? The temp powers are ridiculous, and the yellow drops are too bloated to hope getting a set, so it's off to the consignment house, to get what you want- but if you don't really need it, why bother?

Overall- I gave it 2 stars. Why? Cuase this seemed to be a big bucket fulll of "Meh"- My opinion might be different if I had gotten at least one costume drop, but it was not to be......

It seems the fear of making players over powered hindered alot of neat things this could have brought to the game.

But whatever- it's here now- hopefully it will grow to be more-

Currently laying explosive charges under all markets.

I love it now just give me the detonator and we are set.

I love how you put that but the markets can stay

I'd rather run a hard as heck solo TF given by the Tailor to get these items with at least a certaintly of a costume drop. This NOT getting them with as many alts that I have and the time I spend playing every day is just maddening.

Amen to that! This would be a great idea for those who are costume crazy.

I think Issue 9 is the best issue ever! Because it got me to finally put the game down and start writing again. I'm 100 pages into my new novel, and I owe to all to Issue 9!

Thanks, Issue 9, for getting all of us pesky casual gamers out of the game!

I just wanted to add one more thing.

Issue 9 is the absolute best issue for time-consuming content, if you do take an interest in Inventions.

It has now been over a month and out of my 5 main villains, only one of them is completed with regards to IOs, and out of the other four I've so far only managed to slot one fully with basic IOs (no sets yet, but no more SOs either) and another is 2/3 of the way to slotting up with set IOs (she's an MM and I've slotted all the Primary/Pool/Patron powers but only a third of the Secondarys).

I haven't even begun to touch my Brute or Stalker yet, let alone my "second-string" alts or Heroes. I have a long long way to go yet, before Issue 9 runs out of steam

Everything is great. The system is easy to understand, low level heroes now can get 1 mil inf before hitting lvl 10 because of drops, and lvl 50s are coming out to play to get their powers amped up and they test them out.

The only down side I can forsee is market manipulation. This idea happens ALOT on neopets. a group of people get together and corner the market on 1 item. for this example, let's use Pangean Soil.

So what happens is this: a group decides that Soil is the top marketable product. Then they go out and buy up all they can. then they turn around and sell them at a profit. (this means they bought at 500k to 1 mil and are now selling for 7 mil. Now, the only way this works is if they have 100s of millions in their collective accounts. They keep bidding as low as possible to catch those few stray 100 inf posts that uninformed sellers make. then they turn around and sell for 4-5 mil and make easy money. And before you know it, a group of people HAVE cornered the market and then people get upset because at the whim of a group the price of soil has gone from 5 mil to 10 mil because that group was getting greedy at some point or wanted to finance something big.

If this does happen then I guess it'll be on the other players to not play that game and out wait the controllers. Eventually when the controllers see they are not selling, they'll get nervous and will start dropping the price.

Just remember this is a possible future and not the real future because the future can be very unpredictable.

I really enjoy seeing what salvage and recipes I get now from my drops, which has brought on another type of defeat here in Paragon City: DEATH BY DROP PEEKING!

Wellllllll... I dont know what games you're used to playing but in this one most peeps find it difficult to get a group of 8 to function properly in a team. I cant see scores of players acting in unison like this toward a common cause.

Besides, it always comes back to the time-honored #1 Rule of Retail: YOU CAN NEVER PRICE SOMETHING HIGHER THAN THE MARKET WILL BEAR If the buyers are going to pay the price, the sellers are going to mark it up as high as they can.

Well I never liked farming so this issue left me out I guess

plz add more things that will reward lvl50 characters they are all rusting in my character list... PvP would be nice but no1 gets rewards for PvPing and it's a lil unbalanced still not to mention the missing IoP trial >.>

I would like to say thank you for adding the vendors to Kings Row. I would have voted for that if it were in the list of favorite things about i9. Kings is easily my favorite low level zone, and now I dont have to run back to atals ... slowly, to sell my things. many thanks for that.

Everything seems fine. Some hiccups though... but it's new so it's forgivable.

Problems I see are that you need to make certain the next sets make use of under-performing Salvage on the markets, particularly Rares and to some degree uncommon. One should be excited to see orange or Yellow text show up when Salvage found lights up your screen... not dreading that it may more likely prove to be worth less then many of the more needed and therefore more popular commons do.

More craft-able Temp powers please. Honestly expected more of these then costume pieces. Please put costume Pieces and Temp powers on some sort of drop scale separate from the IO's.

I would prefer a standard visible bids plus buyout system for the market as opposed to the 'silent auction' which I personally believe serves no proper purpose outside a charity auction. Just personal Opinion.

That's about it. Smashingly easy tutorial for learning the system.

Hmmm... one suggestion. Likely crazy... I wonder if VS bosses and up if now and then they might just plain drop a actual IO as opposed to a recipe... I mean after all if we are to immerse ourselves in this little wold you've made for us I have to assume that some of the foes we fight may have made an IO or two in their time... or even a pre-crafted temp power. Anyway, just a thought.

Oh and be sure to put the under-performers in any COOL new stuff. Magic salvage and Impervium (for non magic) doesn't need anymore 'must have' recipes.

Take care and thanks!

Heather (AKA Rogue Demonhunter and Alts )

PS: I love you to death for the permanent Coo-oop Zone. All other game subscriptions have now been cancelled! Mostly because of that feature. Thanks for making that choice easy!

Between that and the Brilliant SK/Exemp system I have no idea why this game isn't number one... Well now I'm just gushing. But really nice choice to go Coo-oop there. Freakin' Fabulous.

Invention system and all that goes with it get a big MEH from me. They're a sideshow and not 'real' content. Kind of like a drug high rather than a performance high.

STF and Hamidon were the big wins for me. More actual GAME CONTENT!

Oh and as always, more costumes (to look good while doing the content of course)!

I think it's a combination of both. If you look at the hot sellers perhaps there's some manipulation there but you'd have to have a load of cash to do that on those ones in the first place. Maybe... what is certain is that right now your not gonna convince anyone to pay millions for the stuff that's in recipes few AT's need or bother to make while the stuff in the hot recipes ... The MUST HAVES... well you can set whatever price you want almost.

Particularly hero side where the gobs of "years of unused cash" has been stored on characters just waiting to be spent... Of folks who weren't rampant Alt-aholics or stupidly generous... like me. I'm such a dope... Around since City Of Beta... and when I think of the in game cash I could have had on my main or just a few toons if I'd stuck by them and not tossed around so much... Oh well (shrugs) can't be helped now.

Ok granted I did get Enchanted Impervium 3 times on my current scrapper main and that has helped boost me up about 10 mil overall heroside... but he's the only current toon I have that CAN solo CoT missions on Invince without wetting his (role playing) pants... So not really a fair comparison for my other alt's luck/performance the getting awesome selling salvage. I mean to say it's all well and good for high damage mez resiting alts to farm whatever you want... but what if your most loved current alt is say an Emp/PSI Defender... your on a nigh forced to team alt which means sharing the salvage % drops with all whereas one's scrapper alt say like I've personally experienced can pop into almost any of his missions or right into the middle of a big outdoor mob and come out not only victorious but typically with some decent selling stuff and get every drop.

Anyway... enough outta me. Invention System/Auction stuff mostly good... Needs some thoughtful tweaking. That's all.

Perhaps allowing certain under-performers to substitute for the must haves? Like any recipe... I don't have lime... hmm maybe lemon will do? Or hmm... I don't have Vodka for my Molotov cocktail... What else is Flammable in a bottle I can stuff a rag into? Hmmm...

You know, I know nothing about IO's....>.> Maybe a good place to start will be the college to see if maybe it can spark my interest. Right now, I'm pretty excited just playing the game. I don't do alot of PvP so the IO's don't really add alot to my toons ATM. It's easy enough to kill NPCs with my MM and my trollers all the same. However, I want to give IO's a shot and I will post how I feel after reading the tutorial.

My favorite feature of I9 was the change in enhancement drops. The stores in KR were a close 2nd.

I was most excited about the new costume pieces. I have "looted" Piston Boots 3 times now and received no other significant drops. I play an average of 4-6 hours each day and I refuse to pay 10million+ influence for a costume piece which should have been public issue in the first place. Needless to say, I am quite PO'ed about I9. If I10 does the same thing with costume pieces, you can kiss my money goodbye.

I thought the consignment house was a nice addition to the game. It's unfortunate that you didn't keep to the "SILENT AUCTION" part of the deal. When players know exactly how much something cost (because they can see what someone paid for it) then they won't bid more than that. There's now an overstock on most items that will never go away, where players placed their item too high.

Overall I give I9 one star out of five. No new content. No new powers. There's only one recipe set in each category that players will really want, so the rest of them are (nearly) worthless trash. You assigned badges for selling which makes players sell at a ridiculously low rate just to get it over with, thereby devaluing the economy. I could go on. Of course, the paramount grievance was what was done with costume pieces. This will stick in my craw forever and a day.

I must say I'm rather suprised with how many people enjoy this issue. The content is pretty thin, and the bulk of IO's cause diversification which is a nice way of saying weaker overall. You can say what you like about stackable percentages but they seem to do one of two things.... 1. turn your toon into an average toon, or 2. allow you to min/max select percentages. I'd be in favor of them if the enhancements themselves had some diversity, but instead they are very cookie cutter. Anywho I wanted to post something to point out that the poll didn't truly represent much as there weren't many selections like... "I don't like this at all". Like a few others who posted here I felt the best part of the issue were the little things like stores in KR, a leveler in PI.... the hamidon encounter is essentially pointless now (so thanks for that, way to fix'r up- a terrible evil is going to destroy the whole world, but lets not bother fighting it cause STF is easier). I9 lured many with costume crud and enhancements that give percentages below what we had before but made it look enticing with tiny little 3% stacks.... in the end though.... the best defense is a good offense so it doesn't matter if I have 6% def to sleep if my acc is 110% and I can outright kill that which is trying to sleep me.
As for the market, well I already know a few people who are manipulating the market pretty nicely... its evil....may as well called it "The Farmer's Market". I look forward to the organized flooding of particular salvage pieces.
Someone mentioned its easy now for lowbies to quickly get 1million influence.... yes, that is true, but don't you think that is sad. Since I9 I've seen more people who have upper level toons but play like noobs. Don't you think instead of a university to teach you how to make IO's we're more in need of one that teaches people how to play the game.... I9 has resulted in the ability to quickly and easily ramp a toon up to the top (especially great when they play the healer and haven't really gotten down that healing portion of their toon yet). I could probably rant out for a considerable length of time, but it seems rather pointless...
Thats my 2cents, I'm glad others enjoy it more than I do , maybe I11 will be good, cause I already dislike I10

Only thing I can say I actually enjoy about I9 is the faster pace with which a character can gain funds. In my opinion, the game already is math-heavy as it is and there was no need to add to it a system that lets you tweak your character with even finer number-resolution.

I welcome most changes really, but most of all I'd love to see more Power-Sets, more AT's and more variance in mission-types.
