Discussion: City Scoop for May 18th
[ QUOTE ]
What would one have to do to make the headline?
[/ QUOTE ]
**I am the Killbot 5000, from the year 4987 I bring you a portent...of Doom, yes...doom.**
The Killbot extends a copy of a faded and yellowed City Scoop, dated 1st June 2007, the headline reads;
Citizens Discover The Printing Press, Developers Nervous
Something like this?
Seriously though folks, great work! More please.
K5K - The Killbot 5000
A Spanner In The Works Part One, ArcID: 336662, A Spanner In The Works Part Two, ArcID: 336665, Enter Japes, ArcID: 96001
In The Darkness Creeping, ArcID: 347709, When Dimensions Collide, ArcID: 412416.
Ooh! Ooh! I like it! Can I help? Let me help! Please! What can I do to help? ^^
By the way, there are still a few typos around. Namely in a certain person X's column *coughYOU'REnotYOURcough* so more proofreading might be called for. Still, was a lot of fun! (Sorry about spamming, I'm consolidating my posts into one)..

11 Down, In acknowledgement of your 3 years (4 letters)
You get a badge for playing for 3 years... and some other things.
I haven't gotten
3 across: what this puzzle is not
I have s__o_u (I may have 1 or 2 down wrong)
20 down: A right of passage for Supers (4 letters, 3rd is 'u')
No idea.
[/ QUOTE ]
Thank you for 11 down! I was like "OH!!"
3 Across, I have the O and the U in the same spots, so I think you're okay there.
20 down: The fact that this is "20" down is a hint too..
[ QUOTE ]
16 Down, Stay in Character (6 letters)
Not the slightest clue.
It's a server...
7 down: first to wear a trenchcoat
Think rednames.
[/ QUOTE ]
Oh thanks! Woo!
As of this moment I'm still having issues with 19 across (She who bore the wings) because I can't think of a redname that fits (_ R _ C _ _ T - or do I have something wrong there? I'm going to feel totally dumb when I figure this out, aren't I..) and 8 down (Dead, Alive, and Dev. All at once)
Any hints are appreciated!!

Congrats on getting the first issue out! I look forward to reading future issues.
Given the popularity of the Behind the Mask section, you may with to implement a consignment house-style "donation" system that will allow players to "suggest" that they be interviewed with increasingly large bundles of cash in order to get good PR. It's how they do it in real life :-)
[/ QUOTE ]
Or simply go with player suggestions, like candidate proposals?
Those who get the most requests to be featured on BTM (perhaps even per server) make the small list from which City Scoop/Teldon can draw from.
Unless Teldon doesn't mind having his PM box overflowing every time a new issue is due.
BTW, kudos to Teldon for working the interviews/screenshots into this issue in such a timely fashion. I was impressed with the number of interviews done given the time he had to work on it.

And turn it into a popularity contest where people will be campaigning to get themselves in? Ew, no thanks.

In their defense, I got my bit in at the last minute so it's my fault. And as for why *I* didn't proofread my column, It was because I was too busy trying to scare people away from an abandoned amusement park factory, which I had discovered was actually the site of indian pirate billionaire gold.
And I would have gotten away with it too, if it wern't for those meddling kids and their darn dog.

The alternative is getting these volunteers swamped with interview requests and having them do all the legwork of figuring out who gets interviewed and who doesn't. Hours more work for them.
Plus, when you read an article about people in a particular field (movies, music, etc.), does anyone particularly relish interviews with relatively unknown people, or does one not seek out articles about the most popular?
I'm fairly certain each server already has a good idea who they want to know more about, so campaigning will be rather pointless if it occurs at all.

I'm afraid I have to disagree. I think sorting, cataloging and tallying votes would be far more labor intensive than "Oh I think I'll pick this one." They're going to get inundated either way, and just like the "Official" contests, I'd personally really, really, really rather this stay in the hands of the rednames.
Not to mention the drama of "I NEVER get a chance to be featured!" and "VOTE FOR ME!" Which will happen, believe me. If you've never been on a site that has popular vote, I cannot even put into words how much drama this would create.
Well this is how I picked the first four servers and players. I Wrote all 11 servers down on a piece of paper and then drew them out of a hat. After I got my 4 servers picked I randomly picked a thread on a random page and started reading. I picked four players I thought were interesting.
As for my selection for week 2 was I was looking for 4 different perspectives. One is a Die hard PvPer, one is a brand new player, one is a 40 year old woman and this is her first MMO, and one I picked based off helpful things they posted in their server forums and I liked thier avatar.
The process in which I select folks is totally random and sometimes I have a theme and sometimes I do not. I WILL NOT pick people that campian for it.
When I started this on Pinnacle a few months ago I tried to stick with themes for each week. Some players were really well known on the sevrer some were not. Some of the players were well liked some were not.
I hope this helps.

Yeah, remember it's not hogwash when the headline said this was done by your fellow players. We're working on ways to bring what's best about these forums and the game as a whole to the forefront. Teldon had a really good series of articles in the Pinnacle forum, and we've asked him to expand it (among a lot of other ideas we're all working on).
It's great that BtM has become as popular as we'd hoped. However it's going to be as drama free as we can make it. We could to 4 players a week for the next decade not make a significant dent in the playerbase, so I think everyone can calm down about trying to get picked, and enjoy the ones that do get picked, because Teldon's doing a great job at it so far.
By the way, anyone who is interested in the older ones can search Teldon's post history to find them. It's all Pinnacle peoples but still.

Here are the old BtMs that are still up. Out of all that I did only 9 were not purged a few months ago. If I can find the ones that were, I will repost them.
Lady Dee
Big Mike
X-Funk
Mojack
DJ Mindsycthe
Cholera
Knight of Iron Star
Kung Pau Chicken
lemur lad

Well that cleared up the process.
Good thing you explained all that Teldon, I think Sapphire7 was going to beat me up cuz' I was getting so sassy.

For 19 across, think about what has wings. Birds, bats, and...
For 8 down, the hints I can come up with offhand are "Pocket D" and "Dialogue".

Schrodinger's Gun, Dual Pistols/Mental Blaster, Virtue

Okay, maybe I'm just being really thick headed, but I can't figure out 8 down for anything. Does anyone else have any hints?
[/ QUOTE ]
First of all, Leandro's crossword is a billion times better than anything I could craft.
Secondly, for 8 down, let me put it to you this way...
Dead in the first run of the comics.
Alive in Pocket D.
A Dev in Cryptic.
This name, at any given moment, is being actively represented in those three forms.
