Attacking the foe that's likely to fall more quickly is a legitimate tactic. I wouldn't apply it universally, but it's not a bad rule of thumb.
[/ QUOTE ]
But rules of thumb applied universally is a bad approach. Dark Servant is hardly ever going to kill anything. Its "attacks" actually are wasted by tossing them on a minion. I can deal with the minion far better than DS can.
[ QUOTE ]
Having the AI attack the highest ranking foe in a group every time would also be problematic.
[/ QUOTE ]
Actually, I really have a hard time coming up with valid reasons that's true. I can contrive some, but most often this is exactly what I would want pets to do, even if it spelled certain doom for them. Why? Because the most high-ranking foe is the hardest one for me to deal with using other tools at my disposal. My characters can mez or kill minions, sometimes in large quantities, more effectively than they can a boss. I'd just as soon my pets tied up the boss while I took out the minions in every scenario I can imagine, with nearly any AT or pet.
Anyway, </hijack>

Positron, do you have any comment on the state of the PhysX engine? The last I heard was that the Co* implementation of it was still in a beta-status, and I have heard a behind-the-scenes rumor that Cryptic decided to go with a software-based model on the client-side (the cheap option that trades performance for 'shiney') rather than a hardware-based model on the server-side (expensive for Cryptic/NCsoft, but would not sacrifice performance). If this is indeed the case, could a glitch or two be in the PhysX software Cryptic tweaked that is causing these performance and crashing issues as it tries to render particles?

yeah with the cape thing, I've never worn a cape yet I crash more than my friends who wear capes...I don't really get it. Any progress?
* Missing (invisible) objects on mission maps.
thanks for the update Posi - it would be REALLY helpful and appreciated if NCSoft would step up GM response time to items a team can't fix - in the last two weeks my SG has needed GM assistance 4x and in each time waited over 45 mins, 2x on TFs (including yours)
they need to step up while we have issues a player can't address.....
A slightly off topic note;
Are villains ever going to get their version of warshades ?
I seem to read conflicting information wherever I go.

I seem to read conflicting information wherever I go. I know I posted this as a reply to someone else but I would like a reply from a dev so here it is again.
Villain Epics are not high on the priority list as said by Posi. Ever, yea, I'm sure. Now, no. I9, well, he never said no regarding the pre-existing AT's like the Nictus, but I doubt it. The answers to this question are all over the forums. Pick a thread.

Pet AI across the board is pretty bad and long due for some fixin.
[/ QUOTE ]
Here's an interesting example. I solo my Dark Miasma characters a lot. I use my pet to soak the "alpha strike" from bosses a lot. I summon him right on the boss.
Typcial spanws are a boss and one minion.
My pet invariably begins to mez and debuff the minion. Always. Every time. Without fail. My strategy ends up being to try non-damaging effects to keep the boss off my pet (his PBAoE effects at least draw the boss's initial aggro) until I can defeat the minion.
Yeah, I have a system that works given what the AI does, but why on earth is his AI like that? Attack the least scary foe first? Bah!
[/ QUOTE ]
It does not make sense for the to attack higher ranked foes. First off the pet powers will not have enough magnitude to even effect a boss so there is no point in attacking it unless you had a power to stack it with. This is probably why they do that.

It's been a while since I posted a top issues list, and for that I am very sorry.
We've been working on a few of the bigger bugs that have been hindering your overall gameplays and I just wanted to chime in and let you know that we are looking into the following with a high priority:
* Framerate drop when exiting a mission
* Missing (invisible) objects on mission maps.
* Client crash due to capes.
The last thing on the list (the cape crash) is causing us some major headaches and long nights, so it might not get fixed fully in the next build for Training Room, but hopefully it will be improved. For the meantime, if you find yourself on a team that is crashing a lot, you may want to have everyone switch to non-caped costumes for the duration. This includes trenchcoats unfortunately. Not the best solution I know, but we are working hard to get this completely fixed. Watch the boards and patch notes for when it's safe to put your capes back on.
In addition, we've made a bunch of fixes to power FXs for various powers to improve framerates. I don't have a list in front of me, but if I get one today, I will post it into this thread.

Hey Posi, I've been having some of those problems. I've been dealing with them through the support center. I'm hoping that'll help get the info to the right folks faster.
Anyway, after a couple of back and forth replies we might have a couple of ideas.

This is the primary reason as to why I dont do TF/SF/Trials. The in-game help response time is way too slow. I have never had an issue to be resolved the same day. I just dont understand why it is so bad for this game. You would think on a Sunday Night at 4a.m. hardly anyone would be on, so there is just no excuse for it. I really feel for the TF/SF/Trials there needs to be special in-game help for that since it is not content that can be skipped around.

Wait, wait, let me get clear on this-so what you're saying is, even if I'm playing solo on a non-caped toon, that when I 'see' a toon with a cape on my screen, I'm potentially at risk for a client crash (as my comp tries to cope with the goofy geometry stuff)?
If that's so, it might explain the sheer randomness of my crashing a bit more...jumping through a zone, there's a caped hero in my LOS, BAM, crash. Moving through a mish, there's a caped/trenched/winged MOB, BAM, crash. Might make the whole thing make a bit more sense, then.
[/ QUOTE ]
Yeah. I sure wish they'd implement a temporary fix for this if they're gonna take their time on a long-term one. Something along the lines of a "don't render capes" checkbox in the video settings.
I suggested that a few pages back but no one paid any attention to it.
Like I said there it's too much to rely on N00bToon5678 to have read the boards and agreed to remove his/her cape for the 5 seconds that they go through your screen.

Silly Question:
Do you have to be wearing the cape for it to cause the crash? I often use my capeless costumes, but have caped costumes im not wearing, and I crash.........often.
[/ QUOTE ]
I'm pretty sure a cape has to actually be rendered somewhere near you for the cape related crash to occur. I would "assume" capes on costumes not currently in use wouldn't be a problem.
Assume...

well there's also the whole crashing while teamed thing going on. so it's possible that just being teamed and in the same zone with someone is sending the data that causes the crash. I don't know if the crashing while teamed bug and the cape bug are linked but it's entirely possible.
And just to be clear, it's not necessarily the instant you see a cape on your screen the crash happens.

That would explain my crash today. I did as much as possible to avoid looking at any capes, but of course in Pocket D you can't avoid it. Took my V-Day mish, got almost all the way through it and boom crash.
The mobs didn't have capes, I didn't have a cape, but for some reason I crashed anyway.

Since there seems to be an issue in some zones where fps performance seems to be related to the rendering of graphic elements that one is not actually even seeing, I wonder if the cape issue could be caused by one being within a certain "distance" of a cape, even if you never actually "see" it or even look at it? Just kinda thinking out loud here ...
Storm
Serenity is not freedom from the storm, but peace amid the storm ...
This was a cave mission instance......
I have had two odd occcurences lately , my characters cape dissapeared - this is the ragged , pointy cape, It came back on zoning. The other instance was I enetered Kings Row from the tram station - cars and pedistrians all around. About two blocks from tram all trafic froze and faded and all doors had no details - just black openings.
No Flight animations and now no capes!?! What the hell is the world coming too... >:/
I had my miniskirt disappear underwater yesterday too. It was the one with the rectangular cutouts on the sides. I was left with a black bikini that was obviously not from costume design, but from wanting to keep a teen rating. =)

Your second issue sounds like this ?
I've already forgotten about most of you

Indeed. In one instance where I crashed, I zoned in to PI and was drinking a soda during the loading. I loaded in, put my drink down, and started to turn and bam, crashed. No one was in view on my screen, but being at the ferry there was bound to be people coming and going, all or at least some wearing a cape or trenchcoat.
Yes, this sounds a lot like it. I was recieving team invites and tells , used broadcast to ask if it was happening to others. I tried to zone - could not acess door in train station. I used Pocket D transport and could not get out of the Tiki lounge but I could see the door details - not just a black space. Reported it and waited a while then logged out and tried again . This fixed it but it happened again so I switched servers - this was Triumph btw and then went back affter 5 minutes and it worked fine.

... To make matters worse - this in all liklihood is NOT in the code.
The code could be just fine - but how it talks to your graphics card may have changed. (Driver updates - you name it.) And did I mention that the implmentation engines (code called by the code) may be dependant on differing versions of drivers for you hadware?
[/ QUOTE ]
Hopefully you'll forgive me if I put a bullet through this proposition, and lay it to rest this instant. I spent some time looking at another cape problem: that being disappearing capes and skirts underwater and when obscured by artifact cases in the magic store in Talos.
One thing that came out of this is that as far as your video card drivers are conerned, there is no difference at all in how a cape is rendered vs. how your character's right arm is rendered. So it's highly unlikely to be a driver problem.
Scrappers are just like chainsaws. Somewhat hard to handle, EXTREMELY dangerous, and by far the most fun when wielded by the slightly insane.

Here is one that I believe is completely untrue, but I have to bring it to someone's attention. I asked my wife today 02/15/07 to get me a new time card at our local EB Games, well they informed her that there don't have any and can't get any as they are not being made anymore. I know that it isn't true, but just wanted to let you know.
