The train points you to the mythical spirit world. The map does too.

[/ QUOTE ] It does, actually; the entire region as a whole is Croatoa (think of it as the entire county or township); the city of Salamanca is within it and is pretty small - just the one strip of buildings.

[/ QUOTE ]

But Croatoa is a name that has no meaning to city planners.

It's not like when a Salamancan comes down to Paragon for a trip they say "Oh yeah, I live up in Croatoa, which is this crazy place where the spirit world is trying to take over. Walking pumpkins and all that."

I see the name Croatoa being more like the hazard zone nicknames. They're used in common speech when talking about the zone in detail, but it doesn't replace its official name.

But really, most of it is Croatoa. And no Salamancans really live in the Croatoa area.

Dang. I was hoping for longer... that gives me like two days to get the pieces for my characters.

Oh, well...

Any servers you need a lot on in particular? People can probably help you out.

And I hope Issue 8 is on test during this time so they can roll it out on live the following week or maybe even the following day after the event. One ongoing even/surprise.

So what kind of goodies are going to be available this year? Is it going to be the exact same badges as two years ago? Any new badges? New monsters?

Whatever the case, I'm exteremely psyched about it. The even two years ago was probably the funnest time I've head in the game. I love, love LOVE Halloween. But I don't get to do enough fun activities anymore. It's always the time of year when I most wish I could be a child again.

In-game Trick-or-Treating is a great time.

::Clears my Calendar::

And it starts right after the first test of this semester for me. Excellent timing!

Though it does start on a Wednesday, which is Lost night. So maybe not so much...

I'm traveling for work from the 15th of Oct until the 4th of Nov. No, I can't play from my work laptop.

Oh well, there's always next year....

It's too bad I8 isn't live yet, this would be a great time to be swinging that permanent undead axe.

Happy about the length of time for the event....

Very happy with the news of an email notification for it's start...

Glad that we did get a story element to this event....

Expected it to be a rehash of the Malleus Mundi story, but still disappointed by the fact...

Wish they had taken the time to make it a short series of P.T. articles, especially since it won't start for another 12 days....

/agree that calling the area Croatoa doesn't make sense...

However, a dark shadow has fallen over this year's festivities. Word has spread from the shadowed town of Croatoa (Town of Salamanca in the zone known as Croatoa) that strange things are headed south to spoil the holiday with their own evil celebrations. With the location of the Malleus Mundi still a mystery following it's disappearance last year, it's feared that new creatures might appear on the city streets. There have already been rumors that the Unseelie court may be sending fiends to paragon City to join the Vampires and werewolves that stalk the night on All Hallows Eve. Now there have even been sightings that the fearsome giant Jack-in-Irons has been seen heading south to join the Pumpkin King.

Small capitalization inconsistencies and a mis-use of the old its/it's thing. Nothing terrible, but I was picking nits anyway.

And is Granny Beldam actually Granny Bedlam?

[/ QUOTE ]

No, it really is Beldam.

Beldam or Beldame is an old word for witch. Bedlam is an insane asylum.

I just hope you guys aren't giving away the badges from the first halloween.

Announcement needs more details about the Halloween activities (ToT, badges, costume salvage, etc). Hopefully those are coming in a later announcement nearer the actual beginning of the event. As y'all are fond of observing, a big chunk of the player population doesn't post on the forums regularly.

You might want to read some of the feedback from when this was on Test for a weekend .... the old Badges will in fact be available this year.

I didn't see this mentioned by any of the previous posters, but is Halloween only for higher-level characters? Isn't Croatoa a lvl 20+ zone? Are all of the missions going to be in Croatoa?

Are the door spawns really zone-specific, not character-specific? I thought I vaguely remembered from the last time, when spawn level varied slightly according to whoever it was who clicked the door for the trick.

If it's zone-specific, why wouldn't higher-level characters head to lower-level zones to speed up the process with easier spawns?

If it's character-specific, why wouldn't higher-level griefers head to lower-level zones to spawn dangerous mobs to let run through the streets?

Or do doors in a given zone only respond to characters within a certain per-zone level range?

Both. If you click on a door in a zone too low for your level, it won't work.

This tells me I need to go to Croatoa... For Valentine's Day and Christmas, there were also contacts, but in AP and Mercy.
