Free respec for i8?

If respecs are going to be "sacred", fix the underlying problem of poor (and often misleading) in-game power and enhancement info.

A-freaking-men.

I mean, come on, how many newbie players know what is going to happen when they get SOs and they six-slotted Resist Elements, Fast Healing or (God help them) Brawl?

i don't think we are "owed" a freespec every issue, but seriously.. not everyone reads the forums and uses hero builders. those power descriptions are pretty bloody vague (and sometimes downright incorrect or misleading)..

it's easy to make bad choices if you are not a forum/builder type. easy to make a toon no fun.

Actually, I've yet to use a second respec on any character I own, most of them have 3-5 'banked' against future major changes.

[/ QUOTE ]

You can't have 5 respecifications 'banked'. The free respecs don't stack. If you can do the respec trial 3 times and get the earned respecs to stack, you can have 4, but I don't know, when I do the respec trials, I just grab the single origin enhancement.

If you know that there's going to be a free respec soon, then you should log onto your characters and see if they could benefit from using the one the have already.

At this point I would say if there is something in the Vet rewards that changes how toons perform, more then likely there will be a free respec.

[/ QUOTE ]

Except that most of the stuff from the rewards is probably just going to be fluff. They arn't going to drasticly effect how you perform. The temp powers will more then likely be "ooo I have a staff yay! Oh it dosnt really do much then look cool."

[/ QUOTE ]

Ya but the vet rewards are account based, not toon based. Respecs as a vetran reward would be kinda crappy if you ask me. I mean, you use it once and thats it. Ill always be able to use my trenchcoats and temp powers.

"They'll give respecs when there are major changes." OK, define the difference between 'major' changes and 'minor'.

[/ QUOTE ]

Just a guess, but ...
Minor? A change to team teleport would only affect the FEW who've ever taken it.
Major? something that affects thousands of toons (i.e. the defense changes)

/respecs are a dangling-carrot that keeps long-time Players playing their old-borked characters which are messed up from improper builds.

[/ QUOTE ]

I don't get it. How do people burn through three earned Respecs and all their free ones?

I've never done a Respec on most of my characters.

[/ QUOTE ]

I agree!
Most of my characters still have all the Earned respec's and the free ones ... the only time I'll burn a free respec? When I hit a crucial "upgrade" level ... I'll burn the freespec to build the exact same build but sell all the SO's to fund the new SO's.

Personally, I hope they don't give another free respec. I've got way too many sitting on all my toons as it is :-p

FOTM. Min/max. Arena. PvP.

The only reason I used a freespec was right before I7, none of my heroes had used theirs before, I knew you can only bank one freespec, and for many I had a "wish I'd taken X instead of Y" lingering for a long time. So what the heck.

But some people have respecced every time it's available and still want more. I'm like you, MissInformed, I don't get it.

I like altering some of my characters abilities every now and then without having to re-roll another character with the same powersets.

Not that it matters. Everyone approaches this game with their own method of gameplay. So, there really isn't anything "to get."

Let me add my agreement with the argument that changes to Fly warrant a free respec. I now have several toons who would like to move some slots out of Fly (the end reduxes) and into Swift (enh flight speed).

On a lighter note, I find it amusingly ironic that Posi's new favorite forum poster is the -only- person I have set to auto-ignore on the forums. heh.

Sometimes it's just simple economics. If you don't have a lot of cash, you can respec at 22, 27, and 32 to pull out your old enhancements and sell them at full value (or 27, 32, 37--whatever 3 spots along the chain you like).

[/ QUOTE ]

That's a pretty short-sighted way of using them.

[/ QUOTE ]

And that's a very non-charitable assessment of my statement.

[ QUOTE ]
It doesn't make any sense in the long run to use up what are finite or very limited resources in order to acquire something you'll be able to get eventually anyway.

[/ QUOTE ]

A resource that remains in your possession unused ceases to be a resource. This type of behavior I reserve for Inspirations.

But as I mentioned above, if you're short on cash (and on every server, odds are you will be short on cash from lvl 1-32 at least once), it makes perfect sense to plan to use the respecs to conserve resources.

True, one will eventually get to 32. Given that I don't have a limitless amount of time in which to do so, choosing and planning to make getting there as smooth as possible is in no way short-sighted.

Please note, too, that I do not maintain that SO-pulling is the best thing to do with a respec. It is simply one other thing to do with them. It does happen to be the predominant thing that I've personally done with them, since most of my characters were unaffected by I5 (not high enough to feel the full nerf effect), and my feel for slotting was much better by the time I6 hit and rapid leveling commenced.

Just so you guys know there are players out there that have extremely gimped builds, that would not survive the respec trial. Believe me on this I seen it first hand. Once I realized their builds I had to quit because there is no way we would survive that.

[/ QUOTE ]

I had by my standards today an extremely gimp build in i2 when the trial was introduced and managed to complete the trial. The trial aint that hard.

[/ QUOTE ]

The hero side respec trial is much easier than the villain side trial. I don't hesitate to send my heroes to save the reactor - with friends, PUGs, whatever. My poor villains have to wait for a freespec, because I wouldn't want to go against the tree with a PUG.

Heh. I took team teleport once, used it once, then discovered the complete impracticality of it due to the endurance drain and ditched it very very very quickly.

It should have been a tp-to-zone exit ability there.

The hero side respec trial is much easier than the villain side trial, yes. It certainly was not when it was first introduced. MageStorm's success in doing it right after release is indeed 'bragable'. Personally, I failed the hard version sometimes and succeeded a few times - the mark of a well balanced challenge. I miss the old (hard) version of the reactor, and I personally am glad that the Villain-side trial hasn't been dumbed down into triviality (though I'm glad that it has been fixed from the buggy mess it was to begin with).

That said, sorry to hear your villains are stranded ... recommend recruiting a smart team from the boards here, maybe your server's forum. If you're on Pinnacle, feel free to drop me a PM.

How gimped do you have to be? I used one of the free-specs once seriously crippled my rad/rad defender. (I chose ALL of the travel pool powers, leaving me, while very mobile, very gimped.) Survived terra volta AND contributed to the team (most of whom were as bad off as I)

*shrug* I've still got my respec from I7, my patron Respec and have never gone on a respec mission. No skin off my nose if they don't offer up another.

I dont know what i would do with a respec. maybe shuffle a few slots around, but ive realy got all my powers nailed down perfect.
