HR Puffnstuff!!!! Holy socks batman. Nobody and I mean nobody know who I'm talking about when I reference "Witchypoo" and the golden flute

[/ QUOTE ]

Pfft! That's nothing! I'm so old that I remember looking down on my younger sister for liking baby stuff like HR Puffnstuf, and later, the Partridge Family and the Brady Bunch.

Liking the original, Adam West Batman series and the Monkees, now *that* was cool.

You reference Beta tapes and the whole team just stares at you.

[/ QUOTE ]

Yay! Beta! Much better than VHS. I still have a couple of those around somewhere...

I know I'm old... turn the big 4-0 next year...

And I...

Still have my 1st edition AD&D books and modules.
Still have my 8 tracks/Albums... and listen to them from time to time.
Still have my Heavy Sixer (Sears version of the Atari 2600).
Remember my first computer - Apple IIc. Had friends with the TRS-80 (lovingly referred to as the Trash 80).
Remember when push button phones were a novelty.

Etc., Etc.

-You've hunted a Wumpus

[/ QUOTE ]

hehehe, there was a magic card named "Hunted Wumpus" and the first time I saw it I burst into laughter, my younger cousin and his friends in audience couldn't figure out why...

Now at only 24 you may not consider me "old" , although more than once I've had the age of any two people in my group! However, I do display the following symptoms of "old gamer"

- You wince whenever anyone says a sentence resemble "u r teh h34l0r? w00t!" in fact, every time someone uses just the letter U or R as a word.

- You remember your 8088 with the green screen, and how amazed you were when you 286 HAD A COLOUR SCREEN! AND A HARD DRIVE!!

- When someone in a pickup group asks "How old is everyone?" and you almost always end up oldest (dunno maybe just bad luck?)

- When you mention the X-Men (huge 80's/early 90's marvel fan) and they simply retort "that movie was teh suck lol"

- If you remember when all super heroes wore tights, and none of them had "troubled pasts" (except for our good friend the caped crusader)

- When your first "MMO" was spelt "MUD", and the best "particle effect" in the game was when a magical item had a different colour text!

- When you remember LORD (oh that Seth Able!)
...or remember modems screeching
...or remember BBS's!! (ah yes, the dark ages before the internet)

- When you nearly flipped out when you saw your first LCD monitor (all 9 inches of it lol)

- When you remember having to blow air, through your shirt, then tap/jiggle/push/turn on/turn off/reset/turn on/reset/jiggle your games to make them work.
...or that damnable laughing dog...WHY MUST YOU MOCK ME!!!

- When you read this thread and realize you agree/connect/remember at least half of this stuff! (or remember your big brother/uncle/cousin/parent talking about it)

Yeah, I remember back in the early 80s racing home from elementary school so I could watch the ainme series Battle of the Planets and Star Blazers.

On the weekends, I would go to the local video arcade and play Space Ace, Dragon's Lair, Defender, and Asteroids, for a quarter a game.

Anybody remember The Thunderbirds as a first run show? Or any of the other Gerry Anderson puppet shows, like Captain Scarlet?

[/ QUOTE ]

My first post and I'm gonna talk about how old I am. >.<
I loved Captain Scarlet - member of Spectrum ("It's easy to be brave when you are invulnerable - loosely quoted from Lt. Green I believe). How about Kimba the White Lion, or Marine Boy with the oxygen gum. And my all time favorite the Go Go Gophers back when it was ok to be politically incorrect.

Ahhhh Go Go Gophers... I loved that show. "Whoopy Doopy!"

You know you are old when:

-Most of the "you know you are old" examples came out after you graduated college.

-You know who Crudader Rabbit's sidekick was.

-You saw the Flintstones in their first run in primetime.

-TV was still recycling 1930's cartoons (like Farmer Brown and Betty Boop).

-You remember cartoons going wrong when the "What about the children" people took most of the violence out.

-You played Tactics II by Avalon Hill.

-Your Hero/Villian will never reach a level higher than your age.

I play for the experience, not the XP.

You know who Big Jim was

[/ QUOTE ]
I take it you are meaning "Big" Jim Shooter. He of the notable quote "We'll trick the little f***s".

[/ QUOTE ]

Actually no.... Big Jim was an action figure who when you pressed his back he would do a karate chop. His arm muscle would grow when you flexed his arm as well. Later, he got some friends with similar names like Big Jack, Big Josh, Big Jeff and so on. Later still he got other superhero friends who made up the Big Jims P.A.C.K. Some of the members of said group where Dr. Steel (who had a metal hand and dragon tatoo over his chest) the Whip, Warpath and Torpedo Fist. There was also the evil Zorak who would change his face to a green scary one when you raised and lowered his arm and then pressed his back.

Have to go now. The light on my hand has turned red and the Sandmen will be coming for me soon

Ohhhhhhhhhh! yeah!
Thunderbirds
Stingray
Joe 90
and of course Cat. Scarlet that had that little voice over in the bigining of the show telling you that "Captain Scarlet is invulnerable, you are NOT!"
BTW, I think the official name for those was Supermarionetation.

[/ QUOTE ]

Those big 5 and some inch ones lol, I had a game that was 9 disks long (now on one little disc on the Gamecube system), Dungeon something I think. Had a Knight named Dirk in it...

Ok, I know this one. Enterprise, Columbia...then um, Discovery, Atlantis and Endeavor. I also remember the Russian Shuttle Buran, even though it never really went anywhere plan wise...little extra knowledge.

I still have my metal Tonka Trucks my parents bought for me :P

Had 2 moments in this game where I felt older than the team I was on:

- When I made a quote from a Benny Hill skit, and no one knew what I meant, or for that matter, who or what Benny Hill was.

- When I reminisced about Fraggle Rock, and once again, no one knew who or what it was.

Yup, it's sad when no one in my generation knows of Fraggle Rock or the little Doozers that built their little towns which the Fraggles loved to eat. Pretty horrible way of living if ya ask me, but those Doozers were cool. As a kid, I was dishevled to hear they were actually controlled by people who wore helmit devices that were connected to the Doozers. The show was never the same after that...
