I played 2.5 years for my demon wings. For all I know I might be playing 3.5 years for my tech wings.
It'll give me something to look forward to if it takes me a year.
It'll give me something to show off if I get them the day I9 goes live.
Either way I'm not really seeing the downside of this as much as others I suppose...

QFT (played a wingless gargoyle for 2.5 years )

    [/ QUOTE ]

Well, I'm just frustrated by the whole attitude of "I waited since beta until getting my Angel/Demon wings" to complete my concept and I got them just for playing....

However, even through you've been playing and waiting as long as me, you should have to jump through hoops and hope and pray in order to complete your concept."

The main thing that drew me to this game and keeps me playing it is the customization of characters.

Right now, I'm just annoyed and frustrated by the whole thing. It doesn't give me incentive to play and hope I find what I need. It really doesn't. It makes me think, "why even bother playing if the odds of finding what I need are so slim and I don't have a chance of buying them, either..."

Yes, I played a long time without them. But, now that they're here and most likely unavailable to me...

    /sighs heavily

Also, I chose CoH/V as my second MMORPG to play because it didn't have the need to farm/grind for "loot". It was my casual, time-limited MMORPG. Seems like that will no longer be the case.

  2. I used to be excited about I9... for the wings, alone.

You see, I couldn't care less about angel/demon wings. I have them on a couple of my gals, but, could take them or leave them.

My main Heroine (been around since CoH beta) is a Pixie. She requires Pixie wings.

I oh so wish that instead of being granted angel/demon wings as the Vet reward, we could instead choose the two types of wings for our account that we'd actually use. And, then, make angel/demon wings part of the invention process as well.

    /sighs

I'm definately not looking forward to grinding and praying that I get the right drops for my gal (or having to pay horribly high prices at auction... don't have a sugar daddy 50...).

I won't quit over this, but it has diminished my desire to play. It's not envy that other players will have my wings first, just that I shouldn't have to jump through hoops to complete my gal just because she's not an angel/demon.

Ted Knight also played Henry Rush in the series "Too Close For Comfort", in which he had the occupation of cartoonist of "Cosmic Cow".

I enjoyed that show myself, but being 33 I guess my opinions are those of an "old man".

    [/ QUOTE ]

I also loved the show "Too Close For Comfort". And, I also watched quite a bit of "Mary Tyler Moore" in my youth.

I didn't find the references obscure in any way...

And, for the record, at 33 you are not quite an "old man"...

Everyone loved the chalet, so perhaps design a new mini zone to be available for the duration of the event. It would fit in since, as the chalet proved, DJ Zero can be persuaded by other entities to create link to thier dominas for a time. As for what sort of place this should be, I'm not sure. Romantic would be the theme since this is Valentine's day we're talking about. Maybe a section of a Paris-esque city? Or maybe a park-type place blooming with flowers? Just as people gave each other presents last Winter event, maybe something simular with bundels of flowers or heart-shaped candy boxes?

    [/ QUOTE ]

I also did prefer the chalet setting for missions over Pocket D, and the presents were one of my favorite things from the Winter Holiday event.

  5. After the Winter Holiday event and the deletion of the temp powers (that I spent mega mega hours getting), I was a bit bummed.

That being said, I did try to keep an open mind about the VD event. (I was around for the previous year's event, but did not do the Pocket D missions then.)

I was very glad that I have 2 accounts. Instead of depending upon someone else to assist me with the missions, I double boxed them with the gals that I wanted the rewards with.

The one thing I would absolutely change is regarding the costume rewards for events such as these. One time of choosing the reward should unlock the costume option for the account, not just the character. Badges, I don't mind having to unlock per character, but costumes for some reason bothers me...

And, I was a bit tired of Snaptooth at the end... Through my own fault, though, as I ran and reran missions for both the Winter Holiday and VD events more than I probably should have...

Overall, I really like the inclusion of Holiday Events, but do wish for more fun/variety and a wee bit less tedium.

  6. Threads like this one just make me very glad that my husband (who is a game developer) is not currently working on an MMORPG.

I still love the BrB idea....

    as do I!

Since this has come up so often, I guess I will leak a feature of Issue 8:

You can change your title at any of the following levels:

    15, 25, 35, and 45

At 50 you can change your title at any time.

You need to visit a trainer still to change your title and they "don't stack" (in other words, if you don't use your level 35 change, you don't have two changes when you hit level 45).

There is no Influence or Infamy cost associated with this.

Oh, and in massachusetts they call soda - "tonic". Always got a kick out of that one.

Zeus - god of sody pop

    [/ QUOTE ]

I lived in the Boston area for a year... the "tonic" thing confused me at first...

When I think of Boston Beverages though... I think of...

Lime Rickys... Tasty... I do miss those...

  10. [ QUOTE ]
It is never going to go away. Its like Pop vs Soda.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I actually use the phrase "soda pop"... or "sodee pop" depending upon my mood...

  11. [ QUOTE ]
All kidding aside, it baffles me every time I see someone refer to their character as their "toon"... Maybe it's because I'm a P&P RPGer and not a video gamer, but where in the heck did that originate? I think it sounds pretty silly.

    Thanks

    [/ QUOTE ]

I'm a PnP RPGer and MMORPGer...

The only time I've referred to a character as a "Toon" was while playing the PnP RPG by Steve Jackson that is Toon.

Typically I refer to my characters as "my gals".

  12. [ QUOTE ]
you guys remember when this was all the rage? I miss this hype. I still want a ball!!!

    [/ QUOTE ]

    As do I.

  13. Decorative Rooms: more sizes - 1x1, 1x2, 1x3, etc. for when a SG/VG knows it doesn't want to expand anymore but would like to fill in available gaps on their maps with fun/RP rooms.

Windows: that look outside of the base to give some feeling of locale.

Social Gathering Items/Furniture to make a base feel like Home: Bars, Barstools, Pool Tables, Dart Boards, Chess Boards, Arcade Games, TV Monitors, Music, Bedroom Furniture, Kitchen Items, etc.

And, I know this one is here already... but, I'd REALLY like souvenirs to be placeable objects.

    NO MORE HAZARD ZONES! EVIL!

    [/ QUOTE ]

One of the reasons I prefer CoV to CoH is the LACK of hazard zones...

    I HATE hazard zones!!!

Other than that, there are some good ideas in there...

  15. [ QUOTE ]

I myself love the idea of using the game's much touted physics engine to create a huge red ball. I mean one at least 4' tall by the in game measurements.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Wow! That'd be larger in size than most of my gals!

  16. [ QUOTE ]
Yeap...I'll sign it.... but must be BLUE!!!!

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Blue would be better...

  17. [ QUOTE ]
In my SG we're going to only install the arcane version of the enhancement station (we're a Tech SG) and tell players that they can use up all of their arcane salvage on all of the buffs they want, but the Tech salvage is for the SG.

Granted, that means only one buff every 5-10 levels or so, but isn't that the point of these things? They're designed to soak up the excess salvage in the market, not to actually give the players something useful. IMHO, they'd be more effective at soaking up salvage if they were a lot cheaper (one or two tech powers/materials for most things, maybe a hardware/software for the big buffs) since people would actually use them if they didn't cost an arm and a leg.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Our VG (tech, also... in terms of base set-up... our mages have their own dec room ... ) will be doing the same... Luckily, it doesn't take power/control to make the station...

    -and-

    I agree.

Was hoping it'd be ALOT more small SG/VG friendly... as with the storage... which, also doesn't appear to be so...

You reference Beta tapes and the whole team just stares at you.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Yay! Beta! Much better than VHS. I still have a couple of those around somewhere...

I know I'm old... turn the big 4-0 next year...

    And I...

Still have my 1st edition AD&D books and modules.
Still have my 8 tracks/Albums... and listen to them from time to time.
Still have my Heavy Sixer (Sears version of the Atari 2600).
Remember my first computer - Apple IIc. Had friends with the TRS-80 (lovingly referred to as the Trash 80).
Remember when push button phones were a novelty.

    Etc., Etc.
