If you remember having a remote control that had a wire connecting it to the VHS (or Beta)
or better yet a Remote that made an odd hissing noise to change the channel up or down but did nothing else

If you remember getting your first cordless phone (very expensive with about 20 ft of range)

If you remember getting your first computer being a Texas Instrument TI994a (I think that's what it was called)

If you remember there being no dice for table top games, just a small cup with a bunch on little pieces of heavy paper with #'s on them.

and finally

If you run an entire night of missions with someone who is afk more then 75% of the time because their kid is sick and you never complain, even waiting to start each new mish until they get back and load into the mish, because you understand how hard it is to be a parent

I remember the Superfriends. I remember Spiderman and his Amazing Friends (Iceman and Firestar). I remember Voltron(the lions and the original which was 15 vehicles, not lions).

[/ QUOTE ]

Whoa whoa whoa.. Are you saying that the Lions wasn't the original? Because they are. Voltron of the far universe (Lions Voltron) was the first (Hyakujuu-ou Golion, Hundred Beast King Golion/Fivelion - 1981). It wasn't untill a year later that Vehicle Voltron would enter the scene (Armored Fleet Dairugger XV) Though they would do some major changing of the story line for Vehicle Voltron in the American Adaption.

Sorry.... Big fan of Voltron..

And yes I did have the D&D basic and expert box sets, Gamma World, Boot Hill and Star Frontiers. Long live the Isle of Dread.

[/ QUOTE ]

I so totally agree!!! I wish someone would do a good game based on Gamma World.

Does anyone remember a fantastic sci-fi game called Traveller?

[/ QUOTE ]

Long live the DEATH MACHINE and Zeattle! I had an OLD White Dwarf that had extra rules for Gamma World and introduced Japan and had these Robotech-style robots that were mega tough.

Gamma world was awesome.

I remember the other games as well, but didn't play them much. I remember (I was in elementary school) making up some space ships in Traveller. It had unusual little books.

Other D&D milestones: Need some help here...
Chainmail - no not the one released a few years ago
Into the Borderlands... isn't this like the very first module?
Something of the Fire Giant King - a series of 3 modules dealing with giants.
Queen of the Demonweb pits
White Plum Mountain - Black Razor, Wave, and ... someone help me hear for 1000pts whats the name of the hammer.

(Some module that had you going into a crashed spaceship and you could get grenades)

Tomb of the lich king? - it introduced the demi-lich and had a sphere of annihilation in a small very dark tunnel right at the very begining of the module. I remember the party wipe as everyone tried to crawl down the tunnel... good times.

Ravenloft - the original module.

Well not the oldest here but....nvm. Anyway check out my bot MM which has Gigantor, Larry, Moe and Curly. Or how about a Merc MM with Newkirk, Lebeau, Carter, Hogan....
On another note how about some of the names in missions I have seen referencing old movie or TV show stars. Some of you out there know there is a lot of them.
How about the Zork series? Computer class in Tech school used punch cards to program computer which btw took up most of the classroom. I graduated the year 2 guys build a new type personnal computer in their garage and went on to be major computer manufacturers.
Dialup BBS? Lived on them. Started with 300baud manual modem. Which for you youngsters meant you could read this post usually faster than it was received.

DOS, Basic, Pascal, Forth, C, Fortran recognise any of these words? Heh.

Ok enough of my rant. On to gaming and DEW!

First remote TV used Ultrasound type clicker, sound and channel was it.
Yes it was the TI-99/4A my first real(cough) computer fully expanded with the BEAST expansion box and 2 Double-sided floppy drives.
Did you know they prototyped a TI-99/8? Saw one once and I think only a dozen or so were made.
Kids? Been there done that. And you know even after they have left the nest they STILL ask Dad for money!

The "Tomb of the Lich King" was actually one of the best and deadliest high level modules old TSR ever released--the Tomb of Horrors. Demi-Lich at the end and one other monster were the only combats. Rest was traps and puzzles--very deadly traps and puzzles. A classic.

34 yr old gamer here. Fond memories of a lot of things said here. HUGE Underdog fan. Definitely watched Wonderwoman for something other than the plot. Just wondering why no one has mentioned Stretch Armstrong. I can remember pulling that thing for all it was worth with my brother and not doing it any harm. Then I left it on my bed in the sun and the next time we played with it .... pink goop everywhere! Boy, did we get a whoopin' for that. Thanks for the trip down memory lane guys, I actually read all 44 pages!

The name of the hammer was Whelm, and you didn't have a "real" super character without one of these.

And how many of you remembering that these weren't cool enough and making up crazy insane powered magic items based on cartoons like Thundarr the Barbarian and Blackstar(with the sword that was two pieces)?

Hitting 40 on the outside this year and I am told I get to go from 13 to 14 on the inside

I didn't like Stretch Armstrong as a kid. I had a very large collection of Micronauts though. I'd always build large plastic metropolises connected via rocket tubes. It was awesome.

if you ever owned a collecovision(sp?)

you still have the original boxed set for D&D (ok I got it used I'm not that old)

you've played text only MMOs and understood them and all their functions

you have a bind for costume changes for use with your ingame 'twin' WONDER TWIN POWERS ACTIVATE

you remember when space ghost was a hero and NOT a talk show host.

you have a toon a named Gary Gnu (Gno Gnews is Good Gnews!)

you realize there is ONLY one Daisy Duke, and it aint Jessica.

How about a commodore vic 20

I bought mine new, and I still have it.

Both MUDs and MUSHs (and built for a couple)

heh, haven't been playing THAT long, and wouldn't fit the background. . . But what if. . .

By the powers that was a hokey cartoon

You have a slightly larger than paperback book-sized box containing the rules to Traveller.

Your first experience with modding a game involved using BASIC.

You remember when TSR put out Boot Hill. (Anyone can remember D&D; IT was popular.)

Tooter the turtle? Thats an obscure toon there, up there with The Kingdom of Could-Be-You and Hector Heathcote.

[/ QUOTE ]

Ah yes, BUT it was Mr. Wizard the Lizard, who lived in a shoe box under an old oak tree that said the words AFTER Tooter would cry "Help Mr Wizard I don't want to be a <insert profession> any more!".

Bonus question: what show as it apart of?

...............you vividly remember playing Pacman for the first time. My friends Dad was an arcade game repair-man and he brought home one of the very first Pacman machines. My buddy and i played it 3 days straight with hardly any sleep.

...............you had the Pong console. (1975? I dont remember exactly when those came out)

................you followed the Pong Console with the "high tech" Atari 2600.

Now obviously i'm only listing the video games. If we're talking board games then i'd have to go back to the early 70's when i played my first War strategy game. I don't remember if it was Axis and Allies or something predating that, but it was a pretty in depth war strategy game and i've been a tactics/strategy nerd ever since.

Yep it's Shizaru for the win, with Tooter the Turtle and Mr. Wizard. I believe that they were a part of 'Fractured Fairytales'
and came out around the time of Rocky and Bullwinkle. But I could be wrong. The point is, that you have revealed yourself as being excruciatingly ancient. Much like myself.

[/ QUOTE ]

Fractured FAIRY TALES was a part of Rocky and Friends (which became Rocky and Bullwinkle) Tooter was apart of Hoppity Hooper. God I'm old AND a geek.

Whenever I start to feel old in this game I shall come back to this thread and revel in my fellow fogies. Lol this thread makes me feel young at 31 but the Nostalgia was great. And to the guy who named all the G1 Transformers, you rock. I actually went out and bought all three seasons on DVD... I'm such a dork. Anyways forgive me for skimming but some that might have been mentioned...

-Remember the Challenger Exploding.
-Wanted to be Wonder Woman when I grew up.
-Literally jumping up and down as you got a Commodore 64C
-Wanting Mathew Broderick's computer in War Games.
-Wishing aliens would come recruit you for your awesome arcade skills (The Last Starfighter)
-Thinking that it was perfectly reasonable for Kirk to get alien booty on a weekly basis (granted re-runs )
-On the same note thinking that big foam rock looked /really/ real and that poor ensign who's name you never caught.
-watching the animated Star Trek series.

And many many more.
