Ahhhhh, IBM 360/370 assembly... I had that class.
I had several computers starting with the Vic 20, TRS 80, TRS color II, C-64, Amiga 500, Amiga 3000, etc. I think I bought the "trash 80" first but I can't remember.
Had the first Pong game and thought it was awesome to play on our Black&White t.v. set. The entire family played that game for hours.
Use to play games like Hearts, Spades, Gin, etc. because there were not many board games to play except Clue and Monopoly.
Drove 15 hours to GenCon when it first started just to have people to play that new game D&D with...
Read HGttG by Douglas Adams in hard back when it first was published.
Know the names of the actors that played all of the Doctors of Doctor Who and watched all the shows on PBS... along side those MPFC shows that you knew your parents would never let you watch if they knew that you were.
Yep, I use to feel real old playing this game til I read this thread and people were REALLY old Thanks for making a some-what old timer feel not-quite-so old.
I'm 41 and I remember:
Had the old D&D boxed set (the white box), then went to the AD&D sets.
(For SoCal people) Remember when Disneyland rides had tickes - and the best rides were E tickets?
Champion was the first Superhero RPG game you played - I was introduced to that in college... and the reason why I joined the Champion server....

How about if the first computer game you played was tic-tac-toe against a UNIVAC on display in the Smithsonian in 1969?
...you used to have a plastic record player (the kind with the lid that fastened in front). It could play 33s and 78s, but you mostly had 78s.
...you've seen Princess Knight Princess Knight in both its forms (and in Spanish)
...you wondered what life would be like after Nixon wasn't president anymore
...you ran home as fast as you could in 6th grade to catch Batman
...you thought Intellivision was da bomb, if anyone actually talked that way back then
...you remember the first time Steve Martin hosted Saturday Night Live, and the whole show was funny, not just (maybe) the first 20 minutes
...SWAT, the Mod Squad, Dragnet, and Hawaii 5-0 were quality prime-time programming, not just possible movie ideas.
...you pretty much figured no routine expedition is going to do to Marshall, Will, and Holly what it ended up doing to them (and its immediate corrolary, that Sleestak are the most scary thing ever)

You remember getting 78RPM thin plastic (barely thicker than saran wrap) records of the Monkee's songs on the back of your cereal box.
You had to get a second phone line so that you could download entire games (100K or more in size sometimes!) from your favorite BBS, because it would take all night to finish downloading.
You are thoroughly familiar with Telix, and the SALT scripting language.
Your phone book in Telix had 10 or more BBS phone numbers, and you used each of them every day to play your turns for Trade Wars, Global Destruction, and Legend of the Red Dragon.
You remember playing on the big multi-line MajorBBS systems, and knew that Earth Warrior and Air Mage were the easiest classes to get to level 30.

Actually the Hardcover gods book that went with AD&D was 'Dieties and Demigods'. 'Gods, Demi-gods and Heroes' was in the original D&D format, 5 1/2" by 8" with a cardstock cover and stapled spine, along with 'Greyhawk', 'Blackmoor' and 'The Eldritch Wizardry'. Also, does anyone remember 'Chainmail'?
You may be an old internet gamer if:
You played nethack...in black and white
You are adept at the Unix version of Net Trek.
You remember when 90% of the internet ended in .edu, .mil, or .gov
Posted on USENET and know what a real flame war is.
Most of your liquid intake consisted of Jolt.
I know, not as old as some of the pop culture references in the rest of the thread, but there was a time when this was what the cutting edge of the online world was.
"Null is as much an argument "for removing the cottage rule" as the moon being round is for buying tennis shoes." -Memphis Bill
I have a Villian named Momma Cass, and only one person knew who she was....until then, I didn't think I was old, just cultured...*sniff*
My first computer, and my only one until we got a Tandy 486 back in 92, was an old ADAM. tape decks and all. Not as old as most people here, but I grew up playing that. I played the old Atari games forever, I think the 2600... don't remember.
Now, the sad thing is, you guys are MAKING me feel old. ( I do anyway, but I shouldn't ) I guess I'm just really 'culturally' aware. I loved Danger Mouse, Mighty Mouse, The Ant and the Ardvaark. GREAT television.. and I myself wonder what is up with 'modern day' cartoons. The animation is HORRID. What happened to Looney Toons? Merry Melodies..? Hanna Barbarra.. I loved watching Ricochet Rabbit and his side-kick Droop-Along ( I think, this was years ago ).
Anyway.. I'm only 24, and even *I* miss the 'good old days'.
Generational moment: I have a clear and distinct memory of my mother weeping. When I asked why she told me that President Kennedy had been shot.
The first computer game I ever played: Colossal Cave Adventure on my college's mainframe.
The first computer game I ever owned: The Ancient Art of War at Sea
The first computer game I owned on a computer I owned: Leather Goddesses of Phobos.
Make of that what you will

Feh, my father both knew I watched MPFC and sometimes watched it with me.
Of course this is the same father who used to let me stay up to watch Saturday Night Live, back during the original cast.
You know you are a older than average gamer when...
You remember when SNL didn't suck.
You have a slightly larger than paperback book-sized box containing the rules to Traveller.
Your first experience with modding a game involved using BASIC.
You remember when TSR put out Boot Hill. (Anyone can remember D&D; IT was popular.)
Your introduction to anime was a show that you didn't realize was anime until 20 years later -- because no one had ever heard that term back then.
Your first introduction to anime as a concept involved people calling it "Japanime", and involved a 3rd-generation fansub because you couldn't commercially get the movie with subtitles.
One drawback of the internet is how it has trained so many people to think that one day is a long time.
