That's not what we're getting at. In I3 they changed the way Hazard and Trial zones are identified. Originally they had the name "stenciled in" in white paint all the way above the gate. Now most of them (excluding Dark Astoria and TV, apparently) have blue, yellow, and black signs on the sides of the gates, which (generally) show their original names.

For whatever reason, Baumton's sign says Boomtown. And Crey is apparently okay with Crey's Folly being identified as such.

However, I really don't care about the argument at this point, since it's obvious you won't be persuaded, and my points have been made one way or another.

and it’s equally obvious that you won’t be offering BlazingImp that apology you owe him.

and DID YOU ALSO KNOW:

That Devouring Earth emanators used to be totally bugged? The Guardians, Granites, etc. that drop them today only do so when they’re aggroed. But early on they would just plunk ‘em down wherever they were standing when they spawned. Any area inhabited by DE would look (from the air) like a vast field of overlapping, glowing circles. The devs knew that this behavior was not “working as intended,” but the fix wasn’t made for a long time (sometime after i2 or i3 I think).

Has anyone mentioned the old Zookeeper badge requirements?

Did you know... the Zookeeper badge originally had an error which required ten thousand Rikti monkeys to be killed before the badge could be achieved? Since Zookeeper is a requirement for a popular accolade, this resulted in monkey farming teams running marathon sessions against the psychic, gas-spewing Rikti underlings on an island off the main Peregrine Island which came to be known as Monkey Island.

I thought I remembered its being a low priority fix error. Well, I'll leave it to a red name to correct me there if he likes.

In any case, if it were actually intentional, it certainly was anomalous - 100, 200, 100, 100, 50, 100, 100, 100... 10,000.

It used to be you didn't have to be teamed with another hero in order to Sidekick them?

[/ QUOTE ]

"Used to...?"

I was very surprised over the weekend when a brand-new alt of mine at lvl 4 in Atlas was approached by a level 10 who didn't bother asking me to team, but a message popped up in front of my face saying that he was trying to sidekick me, and asking for my permission.

Totally wierd. (What is even wierder is that he then followed me around, and tried to kill steal me, then bragged about doing it [he didn't, which was even more bizarre] on Broadcast....)

But from that experience, I would say that you still can sidekick toons you are not teamed with.

actually at first the 10k monkeys didnt have the totally absurd and ridiculously stupid psi effect associated with them. It made it possible to herd hundreds at a time and make this badge actually possible to achieve in say, a months time.

Did you know... that any NC Soft or Cryptic employee posting in these forums has a RedName forum account and has to post under that account. They are not allowed to post under alternate non-rednamed accounts.

Also, despite that knowledge, many forum users will still claim that many of the people who have shown some form of support for an unpopular change implimented within the game by the developers as actually being a developer posting incognito.

Did you know...

That when the game first came out it was very common to see a multitude of "clones" -- dozens of copies of various superheroes such as the Hulk, Wolverine, Superman, etc?

This all came to an abrupt halt not long after Marvel Comics filed their lawsuit against Cryptic for copyright infringement; one day all the clones just... disappeared...

Did you also know that it's not uncommon to see clones appear in the game right after a superhero movie is released? It's happened a number of times, including the Incredibles and the Fantastic Four. Unfortunately, those clones don't last very long.

Actually Rikti Monkies weren't psychic (well maybe psychotic) with the old Zookeeper badge. The Monkies picked up their Psychic Dart attack when the counted was dropped down.

And I still want a badge called Monkey Herder for all us who had to get 10,000 of the [censoted] little pests. I too went through marathon herding sessions on Monkey Island in Peregrine. Yes, the only time Fuzun actually herded. I'd round up 1/2 of the island for a extended AoE smack down session. So many monkeys my graphic card couldn't render them all. (And I succumbed to the Monkey gas a couple of times. Oh the humility of it. A Tanker sefeated by Monkey farts... )

Oh no, they definitely had psionic attacks before the count was dropped. I too spend the better part of an afternoon on a herding team of 8 rounding up the little buggers on Monkey Island with my INV tank. With no psi protection at all I needed my own personal empath to keep me alive. Since I don't remember the monkeys ever not having psi attacks they must have gotten them in I3, which was right around the time I would have been in the correct level range to start dealing with Rikti.

The count was dropped when they instituted caps on AOEs. At only 16 mobs per attack it would be virtually impossible to get to 10,000.

You are right. The count was dropped after the monkeys were given psychic attacks because of the increased difficulty. It may have been said that the changes were meant to go hand-in-hand, but they did not.

Did you know.... ?

That the developers, artists, modelers and programmers at Cryptic Studios have a device implanted in their foreheads which simultaneously video tapes everything they see, tracks their movements and controls their minds so that they are incapable of ever doing anything that the senior development staff at Cryptic or the executive board at NCSoft wouldn't like?

Sorry, I just couldn't resist; let's at least entertain the idea that the developers are human beings, as opposed to game-designing automatons, and might just possibly log in to defend themselves, contribute anonymously to discussions or bash particularly odious posters.

Not saying that it has ever happened; just saying it's not outside the realm of possibility.

Because that's the name of the Trial.

Terror Volta, Transcendant Gateway, Descent to the Hydra, and I always forget the one for the Eden Trial. Faathim's TF has one for the last mission as well. Not sure about the other two SS TFs.

And *cough* yeah...I'm female. (*sidesteps the details*)

Did you know...

- that NPC dialogue that refers to "there is no body called Ascendant at this number" (or equivalent) actually refers to a real player called Ascendant? Ascendant made his / her name though long, one-sided phone calls (on the local chat channel) to an agent called Sal who was continually wrecking their hero repuation. These phone calls were pretty funny imo and I've bumped into Ascendant not too long ago in-game.

- that the first supergroup of note (in-game) was the Insane Cow Posse? The only member I can remember was Bullverine, but they all had bovine-related names. They existed during beta.

- that the original 5th Column named villains were just given German names like Maximillian and Hansich? It took some time in beta for these villains to be given military titles.

- that during beta Web Grenade was 1) bugged so that you could still move during the power animation and 2) did not slow villain attack rates? The addition of slow to this power came after numerous players (including me!) led by Geist argued for Web Grenade to do more than just trap its target.

- that pre-beta the CoH forums had fan moderators overseen by Aura? The moderators I remember were Geist and MacAllen, but there were several others.

The walking NPC's didn't used to just make their ramdom statements. They would only talk to you if you clicked on them.

For a while none of the giant monsters would randomly spawn in the zones. They were added in later and used to have specific levels so high level heroes would see them as grey instead of the purple they are now.

Did you know....

....Pre-I5, SR Scrappers were much sought after for tanking psionic AVs if Stone Tanks weren't available. Even more so in I3 when Permaluding existed.

...with the global defence changes, SR Scrappers somehow find it easier to dodge an exploding bomb than a punch to the face.

....Kheldians were introduced with Scrapper level HP, but suffered a natural 30% resistance penalty. The difference was meant to be made up by teaming. This was changed so that Kheldians could do at least some soloing.

...Warshades are the only AT in the game that can, using only their own powers and no inspirations, hit their accuracy, damage and resistance caps, all at the same time.

....Some of us are pretty miffed that we couldn't register accounts for CoH until several months after release as we lived outwith the USA/Canada, and can't get the Hallowe'en event badges, yet people who had the privilege of being here at the start think they are somehow entitled to get Isolator.
