I likes the Toga.
Not to put a damper on the fun but I think they are butt ugly couldnt they find a better looking toga costume piece to put in place? It's kewl to have a toga but I'd rather wear a burlap bag than what they gave us 
My only concern is that such an awesome costume piece is only available for a limited time. Mark my words, the day after the event ends, I'll come up with an idea for a Roman-themed character, but then I'll be out of luck.

I don't understand why people keep saying/wondering if they are going away. The santa hats are still around arnt' they. Seems to me that if the Devs take the costume options away, it wouldl just cause problems for people currently using them (ie, what would be put in it's place, would there be even more free tailoring sessions, etc).

I think he meant that the badge will only be unlockable for a bit.
Once its unlocked, you have it.
But you still need to unlock it.
