I was playing my EM/Regen stalker in BB earlier and i got a tell from another stalker on my PvP team.
He said i should delete this toon and remake a EM/ninjitsu or i am gimping myself in PvP...

Was that guy dumb or am i gimping myself?

That guy was dumb.
I have a 31 /regen stalker and love him pvp. With regen you can stick around for awhile and actually fight almost scrapper-like. Early on it can be tough but hang with it and you'll love the set. Awesome protection with integration and once you get instant healing...look out!

I've heard some great things about dull pain and hide but I don't play a regen and haven’t experienced it first hand. Many who say regen is gimped don't know about dull pain allowing you you take damage and still slip into hide.

The only problem I have with stalker regen is the lack of Quick Recovery power. I hate running out of end.

Theres also reconstruction and IH... Both real good powers for PvP.

IH is how I survive melee-less blasters. (Blappers can still eat me alive)

I can also scrap against a lot of scrappers, and take tankers on, 1 on 1. There are some that can out damage my healing, but most can't by the time I kill them(or someone else comes up and "helps").

yes, I love this feature. It takes a really big hit knock me out of hide with dull pain going. Normally (With DP) I dont get knocked out of hide until i lose more than half my health.

Does anyone know if this intended or a bug? It seems rather odd, but could be intended...

No idea yet, but the fact that you can be knocked out of hide gives me some hope that it's a feature.

I assume you get knocked out of hide once your health dropps below the pre-dullpain lvl. I'm only guessing though. If true I'd say its a 'feature'.

I was wondering why sometimes I could kite baddies and slip back into Hide while still taking ranged damage! If Dull Pain is the key, it finally makes sense.

And if it's just because of Dull Pain, that could be why people in the Blaster forum didnt' believe me when I said that Lightning Field could interrupt my AS without knocking me out of Hide.

I'm guessing it's a bug, but a really useful bug that "balances" the damage potential of reHiding for /Regen with other sets that can reHide more easily because of defensive toggles.

and as a vote from the other side, regen stalkers are the only ones my scrapper has trouble killing. A stalker who doesn't want to fight heads up is always tough to kill, but among the ones that stick around, regen is the hardest to deal with IMO.

In another thread, someone reported that they asked he devs about the dull pain behavior and they reported that it was working like intended.

That is, with dull pain up I can stand around getting wailed on, and still slip back into hide.

Could you point me to that thread in here or by PM? If that's intended, then it's quite a feature for us regenners.

Heh, I never noticed this with my claws/regen. With hasten this can be perma-hide/DP.

I hope they buff claws to godly level, that way I can dig him out of the closet and start playing him again. It seems the best pvp solo primary is EM.

I'm /Ninjitsu. Nin is certainly awesome in PvP, but I wouldn't say it's all that much better than Regen. The thing that sets Nin apart from Regen is: the better status protection, the +perception power, the very good defense, and the better 38 power (stance defense instead of typed defense). It shares Reconstruction with Regen. So, defense with a self heal with an awesome click power? Mmm... But yeah. Regen gets DP, which is the difference between a one shot and a nasty, lengthy battle.

Doom.

Yep.

This is really doom.

/regen lets you take a *serious* beating and live through it. Small wonder Jackrabbit just got the 'Hard Case' badge, and at level 28...

I don't PVP...but one indicator I think of just how /regen can be a good secondary: Last night, duo'ing with an MM, with the Barracuda mission (Barracuda as EB, thank you AV-EB fix), while I was laying into the Barracuda, he had to run and exit...I didn't even notice his pleas to 'Please exit, I got stomped,' I was too busy with my Dull Pain-Placate-AS-Reconstruction-Placate-AS-toss everything I had at the thing routine. So it was rather ironic when I sent my next message in teamspeak to him, 'It's dead, c'mon back in.'

I was that someone that sent the PM to Statesman. If I still had his reply, I'd post it here. He said it wasn't a bug, but a "feature." Either way. For those who don't know, Dull Pain prevents you from being knocked out of hide easily, during its time of activation. So, it's like click mez protection, but instead, knock-out-of-hide protection.

Note: You CANNOT use Assassin's Strike, however, if you're getting hit. It still gets interrupted. So, it's only use is landing that critical or not having your Placate screwed up.

I've found that while regen stalkers are easier to land a hit on, they are signifigantly tougher to kill. EM/regen stalkers can actually afford to stick around and scrap if they want.

wow that makes a lot of sense then actually. I do notice that can sometimes get my crits off when taking dmg at the same time im placating and using an attack.

Actually, Tenryuu, it was me you asked, and I apparently answered too quickly without actually understanding what you were asking.

I am sorry to say that my response was incorrect. This 'feature' as much as I personally like it, is really a fairly nasty systemic bug that we are fixing. Again, I'm sorry for giving you incorrect information. By the way, this bug can cause issues with Badges failing to be granted.

I'm not surprised.

Castle, could this same bug result in my /Regen Stalker being unable to be "knocked out of" a fear effect? I was in the mission where you fight the unique Longbow boss Ether, and she terrorized me. Then she proceeded to stand around and beat the tar out of me (with her mind) and I never was once released from the terror until it wore off.

Thematically it seems similar.

In PvE I'm not worried about losing this, because I know how to manage and time my Placates. (I didn't even know about this "feature" until a couple of weeks ago.) In PvP I'm not sure. I haven't been compelled to try PvP with my Stalker.

is this why none of the damage I take when DP is up counts towards the damage badges?

That's too bad, the dull pain behavior was just what the regen set needed. A way to counter the effect of low defense on a Stalker signiture abilities.

that makes a huge ton of sense. fear effects are brutal and i never seem to be allowed my counterattack.
