What NOT to do in CoX

See that doesn’t bug me, I team with usually the same people, and we all have Many Alts... but usually We call them by 1 of 2 names
There Main (i.e Very first 50 or 50 they use the most for w/e reason) Or 2 there Global (which is usually the case) since we all have so many alts, its easier for my people (not to mention were on Team speak often) to just call me Bane for the sake that if they say Bane, in our group we know who bane is...

but using some Dumb Ventrallo Name based on the way the person sounds or w/e is just dumb... at least when we team with them threes a General Idea of why we call them that, or we explain the reason we call So-so "Bob" because her Global is @Bobbykins or w/e the reason would be...

that AND it helps us all since we are all in the same set of channels we know who is who... "wait whose alt are you? oh im relay @cheetofired000d" or w/e they maybe... so as annoying as the WoW carry over is... this isn’t all the uncommon

WRONG!

You are NOT required to take a travel power. At ANY level. It is also NOT the obligation of other team mates to port you around, or to wait to start missions for you. It's a sword that cuts both ways.

Again, to make it clear, you are NOT required to take a travel power. Don't let anyone tell you different, for any reason.

Try to tell the level 30 warshade in the group, who is the highest level toon in the group and is doing most of the fighting, that he's a noob and doesn't know how to play the game. (That actually HAPPENED to me...the entire group except me and him laughed their [censored] off at that one.)

(For those who don't know, having a warshade at all means that you've played a character to level 50...and the fact that you're actively participating in the group (and are the highest level character, to boot) demonstrates that you probably WEREN'T Powerlevelled to 50 just to unlock warshades...)

Just me:

Never invite someone who says "no blind invites", "My level or higher", "PL me Please" or "Send tell first" in their comment. They're more interested in XP than in having fun, and are usually group spoilers.

Kick anyone from the group whose first, kneejerk question is "what level are you guys." particularly if he's below the group's average level. he's assuming that the team leader is an idiot inviting people 5 or more levels higher than he is.

Well how about other heroes going around clicking glowies in a mish that YOU own. I out of etiquette Never click any glowies in anothers mish. It should be up to the mish owner if he wants the glowies or wants others to have them. And also for the blind invites yes I have no blind invites in my search field for the fact that I am running around doing a few things in game with my own mishs to which I tend to run some of them solo to get them off of my plate and ALOT of the time just because I am in the Hollows or Skyway or Steel does not mean I have time to drop down and do a lowbies mish when I am busy with my own mish and that if you get an invite from some lower lvl it is for either PL purposes or maybe the person is new to the game and does not understand that you are not gonna ride along as a lvl 37 in a lvl 10 mish. I always tend to join a team when a tell is sent or am polite enough to let the person know I am about to log and tell them thank you for the invite. Not all 50s are know-it-all and arrogant. Some of us just enjoy the game for the fun of it

A couple of years ago, someone got the idea to create "taxibots" which would offer to tp you where you needed to go for influence. And yes, their costumes usually had the colors/checkers of a taxi. I think they started out on Liberty and other taxibot groups popped up on other servers. There was even a guide on creating a taxibot group. I thought it was a neat idea and provided a service to all those requests for a tp. I haven't seen them around at all lately which is a shame.

Hope you feel better, soon, Bane.

[/ QUOTE ] I agree with the "PL me please, or "my level or higher coments.." but.. Um.. hate to break this to you, but I have in most of my comment boxes "No blind invites, please send tell"- and I'm not more interested in Xp, nor do I consider myself a "group spoiler". I just consider it (un)common courtesy to do so, and ask as much. I also do the same if I'm searching for a team. I don't know what they're doing, and most people don't use the "looking for" dropdown menu, so I ask.

Since I've used that policy, I have had better PuG's than I ever did just accepting blind invites.

I can't count the number of times I've helped lower level folk out in a mission (EXing if they want xp, and not if they just want to get past something they've died too many times trying to do and want to get it over with) and one of my favorite things is helping people get their capes, auras, and costume stuff. On some of my group's SG nights, we've stopped in the middle of our missions and stuff, to pick up a "lowbie" who wants help getting their cape or costume. Even giving them influence to get them if they don't have enough. All we usually ask in return is that we get to see what their new look is The cape and costume thing is a rite of passage of sorts for all the hard work that character did, and most of my SG take a lot of joy in helping with it.

Anyway, the point is, I consider blind invites (for a team or SG) rude, and it's not a lot to ask for a little courtesy. Besides, if they aren't willing to bother with your preferences in getting a team, what consideration do you think they'll have for your playstyle?

Blind SG invites are even worse though. All that says to me is that they don't care what I'm like personally, or my playstyle. It tells me that they want to pad their membership roster for more prestige. I just think it's sad how many new players are just happy to get an SG invite, when all that's happening in my mind is that they're being used to get more prestige for the SG leaders to build their "uber" base.

At least I don't go as far as a friend of mine that puts a warning into his comment field that if you blind invite him, he will do something unpleasant. Which is, if you blind invite him for a team, he accepts, asks for the star, then kicks the person who blind invited him from the team. He then explains why he did, then give the star to another teamate and quits... they can reinvite the other guy if they want. Me? I just click no. I'm just not that motivated in my vindictiveness.

Then again, I favor CoH, and he favors CoV.. go figure..

True, You are NOT required to take a travel power, At any point of the game... But the odds are, unless your a play solo 100% of the time, during the 14 and up game your going to have a rough time with teams and people in general.

Mind you i say this as a generalization, i know this girl named koko, she has a level 50 Regen Scrapper with No travel powers, but it was a concept build. She didn’t take Any Power with an Aura or changed the way she looked. So she took Hurdle and Swift and sprint and 6 slotted them. She got Around amazingly Fast as long as she knew the map. But mind you this was Before ED. Now the best you could get would be 3 slotted of each...and that’s Nothing special...it makes movement essayer, but with out another type of travel power to back it up it just doesn’t cut the cake as nicely.

and Mind you, my above statement was based on a lvl 36ish Mastermind who had 2 jet packs, and didn’t take any power pools but Leadership. My group and I, after asking him why he had done that (thinking it might have been for concept) tried to Very politely explain to him, the trouble he was going to have when his Jet packs wore off. To which he replied "don’t worry about it you idiots, i have 2 jet packs and only 4 more lvls till 40" So we informed him that in the next big update the lvl cap would be bumped to 50 and he said "it doesn’t matter i still have enough jet pack to lvl up to 50, and besides all my alts don’t have travel powers and get along fine" and we asked him what lvl those alts were, and he listed them off, he had 3 lvl 13s and 7, or some combination of that, nothing else above 14.

So for the most part, unless you have a real good reason not to take a travel power... you SHOULD, you don’t have to, but you SHOULD. The odds are no body will want to team with you, or teleport your [censored] around all day.

Oh I’m very aware of Taxi bots, and PCSR and Other emps like my self who fly around and help. But usually If a Taxi bot or some one of the sort is "On duty" in the zone, they Broadcast it. But when you get some low lvl n00b going "Can some one TP me to *wherever* In request or Broad cast for an hour, or every time you come out of your mission in that zone... It gets kind of annoying...

And thaks, long as i dont gap in the meds i seem to get doing ok...enough to sit here and type at least...

I should probably add, Lycan, that I ALWAYS filter the search tool with "Looking for any" and "Looking for missions" selected. Anyone who SAYS that they're "looking for any group" with the pick down list, but nitpicks in their comment, is a bit too schitzo IMNSHO...not worth the effort of sending a tell to.

[/ QUOTE ]Fair enough If they actually take the time to use the drop down "looking for" menu, then yeah, adjustments should be made to the message, since they're there anyway.

Usually, I don't set it for looking for any kind of team when soloing, so I put the "please send tell" message in there, because while I'm content to solo at that point, I may be inclined to help on one or two missions if the person needs help and asks politely.

Unfortunately, a lot of people don't use it at all. I've tried that method and found like 3 people in the level range I was looking for tops. Granted, that was enough to make a team, but not much variety

Using that drop down bar should be in a "DO" list somewhere...

DO NOT get upset at me or my SG for thinking outside the box.

Some friends and I decided to try an experiment, an all-Controller SG. When the first of us hit 10th level, I was tempted to call the SG The Controller Discussion Group, because we would herd together and lock down 2-4 spawns of mobs and then chat while our DoTs killed them, occassionally refreshing our AoE holds. We were scary, but there were only seven of us, and our Illus/FF invariably wanted to invite whatever appropriate-level toon we ran across. This one Scrapper we invited was distinctly nonplussed at our team composition. At first he wanted to invite a healer, despite a full team and being the odd man out in a theme-costumed team all from the same SG and named Yce the Mystic, Bern the Mystic, Durt the Mystic and so on. He shut up about heals when we hit him with 3 single-target heals and four buffs in the space of 2 seconds, but he never stopped complaining about wanting more ATs on the team as we strolled through the mission destroying everything in sight. The only times he took any damage were when he got in the way while we were herding and when he ran off to aggro a spawn of his own and faceplanted. After that last he sulked "SEE?!?" and quit.

Do not ever use the words "watch this" unless you are ready to use your HMO plan.

Do not think that a straight line from one point on the map to the destination is the safest route.

Do not think you will be able to just run past a mob fast and not get hit or faceplanted.

As for what not to do while playign CoX
...... spoil someones fun by telling people who thier characters are. (My Reason is this, my main Darklite is a Dark/Dark Defender and of corse I was kickd from many teams before even getting to show them my powers because htey figured Blue sheild means EMpath, said "Sorry your not what we need"/kickd me sooo, Darklite constintly says Ida my EMpath is weak ect... and Vice versa gets funnny, than someone says Hey I know Ida shes nice dont talk bad about her ecttt. and than it starts my covers been blown someone ends up telling them i'm its my character too)

Blind group invites are good in my book. At times its hard enough to get a group in the first place. A lot of people are like me and pass right over people that are bitter to blind invites. To me and my friends if the comment says "no blind invites" what it really means is "I don't want to team with anyone".

[/ QUOTE ]

Er, no. Maybe if you say, "No blind invites," you mean, "I don't want to team." I have another way of saying, "I don't want to team." It's, "I don't want to team." And I say that by selecting that in my Search field.

Communication is a responsibility. A responsible team leader knows how to communicate. He communicates with team members and prospective team members. Did I mention that the key is communication?

So, what does it tell me if a team leader doesn't contact me before sending an invite? It means he isn't responsible enough to maintain communication. He may even be irresponsible enough to lead us into debt. I pay good money to have an enjoyable time. And I enjoy a team more if I have a responsible team leader.

I don't even bother with "No blind invite." I use a password. It's plain in the Search field. If I'm looking for a team, then I put up the flag. When I receive an invite, I ask for the password.

If the team leader knows the password, then I know he did his research. He checked around. I can often overlook him not contacting me first. After all, when the LFT comes up, I expect to see some blind invites, and not all of them are from irresponsible jerks.

If the team leader did not know the password, then I drop the team. The leader obviously didn't bother to check to see if I was even looking for a team. For all I know, he saw me running down the street and sent an invite. I don't have time for those players.

And I just love it when my password is up there when I'm not looking for a team, and I get a blind invite. I ask for the password, and the leader sometimes even knows it. I reply with, "Then you already know I'm not looking for a team."
