It does tell me something. Since I started using the "Please send tell first" message, I've gotten far fewer blind invites.
I guess that tells me that most players are a lot more polite than you and your friends, eh?

y is PSt arrogant mabey id like to know what im getting into. like say a TF i might not have time for, or a team that im not going to get any xp with, or a team thats not a taem but a person who is gonna drop me after one mission so i will have to spam broadcast with my "lvl 12 blaster lft" again, or..........
[/ QUOTE ]
If you're that picky about your teams then why are you asking for one on broadcast? Make your own if you're going to be so picky instead of putting yourself up for a team which is exactly what LFT means!
[ QUOTE ]
At what point did "LFT" become "blind invite me so I have the pleasure of dealing with whatever crap I'm dealt"?
[/ QUOTE ]
Always. Again, LFT means youre, uh...looking for a team. If you want a specific team, either put one together yourself(heaven forbid) or state your preferences instead of the blind sweep that is LFT.
Besides, how hard is it to click the quit button if you don't like the team?
For Illusion or Mind Controllers:
Don't cast Deceive/Confuse on the bad guy that the Blaster just shot to pull. He is just going to turn around and run back. (I have done this one . . . my bad!)
If you are playing with an Illusion or Mind Controller:
If the controller has cast Deceive/Confuse on a bad guy who can buff your team or mez the bad guys, don't kill him first. Treat him the way you **should** treat an anchor, and let him do his thing, at least until Deceive/Confuse is about to run out.

So no it is not arrogance.

I think you missed the point here...
It's not the "lvl 20 troller LFT" that was arrogant, it was the PST part. If you want a team bad enough that you anounce it in broadcast then dont' expect anyone to send you a tell. Just click that team window when it comes up and be done with it.
[/ QUOTE ]
That has to be the silliest thing I've read in awhile.
Just because you're looking for a team doesn't necessarily mean you're looking to "help that one guy 20 levels below you kill a single boss then get booted" or "spend the next 4 hours on a TF"...
There is absolutely nothing arrogant about saying "hey, I'm looking for a team, drop me a message and lets see if I'm the right fit for your team (and their current goals)" ...that's what the "PST"'s there for.
At what point did "LFT" become "blind invite me so I have the pleasure of dealing with whatever crap I'm dealt"?
[/ QUOTE ]
Looking for a team so bad you have to broadcast it (probably more than once), yet still require all the controls up front about what you're getting into?
Here's an idea...
PUT YOUR OWN TEAM TOGETHER!
Yep, use that find button and build what you want. There are already WAY too many freeloaders that just want to button mash and level. If you go LFT on broadcast, then you can take the time to ask the questions AFTER your joined the team that responds to your broadcast. THEN you can decide to stay or go. Or....just....
PUT YOUR OWN TEAM TOGETHER!

Can I get a " Hell Yeah!" for that one? While fighting the Tsoo with one group I got tired of repeating "Don't kill the sorcerer yet! He's been decieved and will heal US instead of the bad guys!". As much trouble as Tsoo sorcs are I'd have thought that strategy would have been easy to grab onto. But later on with the same character I find myself saying to teammates while fighting the Skyraiders "Don't destroy the FF generator until we kill the rest of these guys! Its been decieved and is protecting us, not them.".
Some really good stuff in this thread btw.
Let me just add this one.
Don't make a hero (or villain) with a dot (.) at the begining, middle, or at the end of your name. Is there anything sadder in COX that seeing some level 50 running around named ".Hellspawn" or "Ice.Master" or "Powerguy."? No.
It shows a SERIOUS lack of creativity on your part, not to mention an indication that you choose the path of least resistance. Not good traits for a hero OR a villain worthy of respect or fear.
You simply won't be taken seriously by serious players. Take ten minutes up front, and make your hero/villain truely yours. You're going to be spending alot of time with them.
Don't get upset if my ills/emp controller says "RA and Invis gather now" before we engage a big mob but you miss it because you're screwing around leaping all over the place.
(Actually I'll say that once or twice on a team, but if people don't gather, and seem to be ignoring it I stop and I'll only fire off RA if when I need it or if I'm in range of everyone else when its recharged....In that order. But I'll stop giving the warning since no one is listening.)
Don't put "No Blind Invites" into your search screen and then send blind invites to people. Teammate friend of mine had this happen to him.
Don't spend so much time chatting in tells and SG chat that the non-SG member wonders why everyone is so quiet and no one is moving ahead in the mission.
Don't threadjack a fun thread to debate No Blind invites - plenty of other threads devoted to that already.
Don't join a team for some missions, ask to for help to get one of yours out of the way and then have to go as soon as your mission is done.
Don't declare youself a "Healer" and then only heal the Tank letting others on the team die.
Don't forget what AT you are playing, just because you spent a month playing your brute doesn't mean that you can play your defender the same way (I've been guilty of this when switching alts).
If you are a tank on a team with more than one tank, don't go to assist the other tanks. Take your share of the mobs to hold aggro. One boss only needs one tank to taunt him while the other ten baddies are killing everyone else.
Do not ask if you can grab an alt in the middle of a mission and forget to mention that the alt is several levels lower and won't be of any help to he team.
Do not forget that this is a game.

That politely asking people to treat you in a nice and pleasant way is usually countered with interruptions and annoyances from other players?
There is a no-call list for telemarketers, but there is no way to block blind invites... until that day, they will be annoyances that players will have to deal with.
[/ QUOTE ]
Yes, sad but true. Advertising your pet peeves make people poke at the wound more.
Also, the no-call list thing is a joke. Asking to be taken off a list... puts you on a new list. A list of people who have good phone numbers. Same with emails that say "to be removed from this mailing list"... that means "please validate you have an active email account by clicking on this link". Only honorable people will honor rules.
You can't tell a bank robber that he can no longer use a gun when he robs banks and expect to be taken seriously.
It sucks, but putting "no blind invites" in your comment makes people blind invite you just because they want to show you that you have no actual power over them. It's a troll magnet and not effective to accomplish what we want it to do. I found that leaving the comment blank nets less blind invites, but who wants THAT? I like teams.
ooh ooh!! I forgot one.
Don't make a name like " '4hzh,kav th3 xero.un0us" and expect ANYONE to reply or send tells to you. I know backspace works but only to the last person sending tells. If it seems you are being ignored, it was probably because of the name you chose.
Maybe this one is just me but if you have a name like "Evil God of Satan's Womb", don't expect me to even talk to you or give you the time of day. Hey, I'm a hero and I have my personal beliefs. I have the option to ignore you over just your name.

Indeed. What is up with that? I find it rude to try to get yourself invited to a team especially when the team has 'enough' players and are in a mission. My point exactly. If I see someone broadcast "LFT PST" I pretty much giggle and if it's up to me the person will rot before they get invited. Now if they said something like "LF TF team" or if they are looking for a particular mission, it's a different story. Otherwise it's as silly as someone who wants to get paid to join in a team doing the spelunker badge mission.
I already send tells to people I find doing a search, so i'm not going to do it for people begging for a team in broadcast.
If you ask for spare change, don't say that you only accept quarters....
Which reminds me: If you expect people to be polite enough to send you a tell before inviting, be polite enough and let them know you are not interested in joining and don't leave them hanging.

I agree with you, but I was actually talking about the reverse. I'm running a mission solo and receive a tell asking me to join someone else's team. (Probably because you can't blind invite folks in missions.) I think its pretty arrogant asking somebody to drop what they are doing to come join you. If they are polite and specific about what they are doing, I will usually send a tell back saying that I am in a mission and will contact them when I am done. If its the usual "wanna join mish team", they will be ignored.
Thought of another oddity:
Don't ask to join a supergroup unless you are serious about it. I was sent a tell by someone, while I was in a mission, asking if they could join my supergroup (not that it's 'my' supergroup but one I am a member of). I said they had to fill out an app and referred them to the website. Their response was "Oh, nvm." I'm thinking, "then why did you ask?"
I don't necessarily mind blind invites and it's easy enough to just click no. I guess I've been fortunate in not getting spammed invites by the same person. But blind supergroup invites annoy me a little. For some reason, those seem to get spammed a bit. If I'm on a PUG, and then get invited by someone on the team to their SG, then that's ok. I feel then that they know me a little and think I'm a decent enough player to join them.

I also don't waste my time with tells because there's already enough people who DO accept blind invites. And when someone wants a rundown of our plans first, I tell them "we're all gonna play this game called City Of Hero's, wanna team with us?" Many people laugh and join up and we have an incredible experience together. Those that do not join or get all prissy about getting details are no longer considered and miss out. This seems to work for me rather well because I no longer have bad teams.

Important point, Wokka; I said your friends, not mine.
I've had far fewer bad teams since I stopped accepting blind invites. I've had far fewer blind invites since I put a simple, polite message in my team search field. It works for me. You can do as you please.
Do not offer unsolicited advice on a persons build, in which you refer to them as an idiot for picking a certain power or set. Don't get me wrong questions and discussions are fine, but if one more person tells my solo eng/eng blaster that he is an idiot for taking the medicine pool...... He took it because he soloes almost exclusively. There is an interupt in it so it can be used in combat and it works really well thank you.
If everyone had the UBER build, it would be a lot less interesting.

Do Not...
Ignore the comments field in the serach box. If you put your mouse over it you'll be able to read the entire field.
Ignore the in game help file, it can answer a lot of your questions. (MENU > HELP)
Expect a team to wait for you, because you had to go buy some ehancements, talk to your SG and see what Kalinda was doing while you've been away. Don't ask a whole team to wait for you even if you have the leader star.
Demand buffs or heals from any AT who has a those abilities. They know their powers and don't need your onstant reminders, because in the amount of time it took to type that demand they were probably already about to hit the button anyway. It is acceptable to type "zzz" or "held" when slept or since the indicators for those effects are very subtle when in battle.
Ignore the tutorital, sure its a bit of reading but its there for your benefit, if you've never played the game.
Ignore the map and navigation
Ignore the mission objectives - these are key indicators to exactly what you have to do in a mission. If it says "escape with Mr XZY or Fight off attackers" that means once you get the person or click the glowie you will have enemies coming after you, maybe more than 1 wave, so be ready.
Click EXIT once you hear the Mission Complete Chimes. - As you learned in school "The bell does not dismiss you!" Wait to see what your team is doing first, there might be another wave of attacks coming, some folks might want to clear the mob. Usually a leader will say "exit".
That's all I have so far...

I've seen both ends of this spectrum while playing the same Scrapper. A couple weeks ago I got this /tell:
"Sorry to bother you while you're busy, but our team desperately needs some DPS. Are you interested in some 32-ish missions?"
That was great. They were patient enough for me to finish my mission (10 minutes), and we had a great team with Global Friends made.
The next day, I got the following /tell:
"healer?"
Mind you, I was playing a Scrapper named Ultra Fist, so I made the obvious guess.
"No thanks, I don't need a healer."
"no are you healer?"
"Only in the most obscure sense of the word."
"what?"
"I kill them before they kill us."
"cool what set is that come out of mish i invite"
