I was extra sad to hear of a similar location in New York, just a state away, but this location didn't have plans for a similar event.

Coming from DC that doesn't sound too bad. It always boggles my mind when I think I live less then 15 miles from my office, and yet my commute is consider not very bad, since it only takes me 45 minutes or so to get home.
So how about a meet and greet in DC? You know the nations capital, perfect place for the Austin NC Soft folks and the CA Cryptic folks to meet up.

Hmm I just checked the rates, from Amsterdam to Austin would be 500 euros, damn maybe we could meet halfway? Oh well, just a couple of months too soon, otherwise I could have planned it into my trip.
Finally, something here in my backyard.

You guys like beaches and sunshine? Tampa! Great hotels on the causeway halfway between Clearwater and Busch Gardens! Busch has conference rooms... big ones...
Used ta' be... Bus service in Austin was extremely good. So good that you could reliably use the bus schedule to get to work on time, even downtown.
(Used to work in downtown Austin, on 6th street. No, not at a bar.)
I dunno if this is still the case.
Cyberjocks on Research is kinda away from downtown. Traffic won't be nearly so bad.
