I think "toon" is some european thing. I don't like the term.

    [/ QUOTE ]

It's defenately not a european thing.

As for me, I use character. But then I don't use u instead of you, or r instead of are. I try to not judge people who do, but it's damn hard.

I think the point was that Psi was less common than the other types noted. As far as how much "less" is certainly up for interpretation.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Is he? let's look at what he said one more time.

    [ QUOTE ]
The second requires new design, new code and would probably mean a direct nerf to all Negative Energy, Fire, and Cold attacks, since those resistance types are less common than Smashing, Lethal, Energy and Psionic.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Highlighted for your convenience, I think it's safe to say he meant that the resistance to negatie energy is less common than to psionic damage, among other things.

With regard to the 'promise' of a Blaster Rep, with the news that has come out of late, I would consider ourselves lucky indeed that we have an overworked man such as Castle having the time to even look at some of these issues that the community has raised.

Perhaps it is too much to ask that a different 'Rep' be assigned to the 11 different AT's in CoX. Perhaps we could be slightly less snide, snarky and rude to the guy who is actually doing some good work for us ....

    [/ QUOTE ]

I'm sorry if i haven't made myself clear before, my scepticism isn't directed at Castle.

As for Castle being overworked, that's something he must've pm-ed to you, because, as far as I know he never said such thing on the boards, unless he secretly is also Mako....

Saying it's too much to ask for a representative for each archtype is a load of bull, the idea was brought up by Statesman himself and so far they haven't made good on it.

As for that snide snarky and rude comment. I admit to my posts being snarky, my temper has severely shortened the last couple of days. But rude and snide... we read thing differently, that's for sure.
  3. I know his name is Castle, and while it's very nice of you to punctuate those two words, he specifically compares a mental blast attack with a dark blast attack there.

I have nothing against Castle, far from it. I appreciate him looking at defenders and blasters, but ~3 monts ago a statement was made that all archtypes would be getting a representative. Apparently they'll be assigned to us as soon as skills will be implemented... i.e. when pigs can fly.

I have the feeling their answer to defender and blaster problems have already been implemented in the previous issues: nerf the rest.

    [/ QUOTE ]

With threads like this around, it was a miserable failure.

    [/ QUOTE ]

No arguments here, I'm just saying, back at the release of i5 states said that he was happy with where defenders were, and blasters got a "buff", the rest got, well we all remember what the rest got.

Wasn't it devposted not a few days ago that Psionic is balanced because, despite having slowly-activating powers that don't do a lot of damage, it's not a very resisted set..?

    [/ QUOTE ]

    fetched you the specific quote:

    [ QUOTE ]
Charged Bolts is a bit over twice the Activation time of Dark Blast. Mental Blast is ~25% longer Activation Time than Charged Bolts. All do the same base damage. Mental Blast, however, does Psionic damage, which is among the hardest to defend against in the game. Mental Blast also has a 25% longer Max Range compared to the other two sets. Is this 100% balanced? Possibly not, but we don't want to simply make every power a complete clone of another.

    [/ QUOTE ]

guess what... It's by the same red name :S
  6. [ QUOTE ]
The problem isn't exactly new. Ask Statesman why it hasn't been done yet - we've only been bringing it to his attention for a year now.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Solving old issues doesn't sell new boxes i'm afraid. Look at the skills and flashback system, power customisation, the popular demand for more scrapper and tanker sets. All have also been around for ages, and apparently they are all difficult and problematic. I have the feeling their answer to defender and blaster problems have already been implemented in the previous issues: nerf the rest.

If nothing else, he can describe how the developers play their blasters.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    [cynic mode]
Huh they play blasters? If they do, I bet it's only to make sure the FOTM isn't overpowered.
    [/cynic mode]

I'm sorry I tend to get these moods when I read an issue update, apparently my mind reacts violently to the subliminal messages inside them.
  8. Hmm I just checked the rates, from Amsterdam to Austin would be 500 euros, damn maybe we could meet halfway? Oh well, just a couple of months too soon, otherwise I could have planned it into my trip.
  9. [ QUOTE ]
Why not half the end cost, and double the base flight speed?

Right now its the SLOWEST, and most end intensive "travel" power in the game. It will run you dry if you pick it up at 14 and fly across the zone with it.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Slowest yes, but the prize for most end intensive travel power goes to teleport, hands down. I hope they'll look at tp too, I hate getting the red circle when i want to get the hell out of a bad situation, and the end use is horrible. Anyways yay buff to hover/fly! (I hope, I've got a lot of flying characters)
  10. Actually 85% defiance is +340% damage, assuming 3 slotted for damage, no need to apply both buildup and aim, single aim should be enough. (not accounting for defense, but then the boost from defiance + aim should be enough for that as well).

    2. Criticals and Scourge are probably no better than Defiance at adding meaningful damage over the course of an evening of play.

[/ QUOTE ]I don't know about scourge, but crits are very very nice. It's free damage with no drawbacks. Best of all, it's more likely to kick in when you need it most (lieutenants and bosses). In contrast, defiance is less likely to kick in when you need it. If you're in a tough fight and losing health fast, it's very likely you'll be able to stay in that very narrow zone where defiance helps you. In those cases where your health may be dropping at a slower rate, you probably don't really need defiance anyway.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I don't need a power that is just as likely to give a damage buff to my 0.3 BI hold and skip my 9 BI blast as the other way around. Yes defiance is sluggish, that's why i throw my holds first when i'm low on health. I don't need a critical, I need defiance to work sooner, more reliable and decay slower, that's what I need.

YMMV, I like the concept, and even in it's current state I have occasional use (about 1-3 times per solo mission) for it. In teams it's less usefull, but then I don't really need it in teams.
  12. [ QUOTE ]
Let me help clarify this. Currently, due to limitation, target based powers, such as Rain of Fire, Blizzard or Rain or Arrows, cannot be buffed. So if you cast Build Up and then cast Blizzard, it would not do any more damage. This change will now allow such powers to be affected by buffs just like any other powers.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Will it be possible fo you to decide which buffs affect those powers? For example power boost will affect both slow and knockback in powers like freezing rain and blizzard. Obviously the boost to slow is very welcome in those powers but knockback distance is not.
  13. Good thing too, It looks like tankers will be needing the fighting pool once Enhancement Diversification comes along.
  14. Ok I've had a little more time to think about it, I still think your post is a weak attempt at damage controll. Please make me eat my words and prove that you, the developers, actually grasp why the forum community is in such an uproar

I have a couple of questions I would like to see answered:

    1. Why was chosen to implement this system.

    2. You have been working on this system even before the i5 balance changes went to test, was the i5 balance made with this system in mind, if so, why didn't you inform the community that you were doing so.

    3. why were these specific cut-off points (70% and 100%) chosen.

    4. Is it true that a bonus after 70% has 85% effect and after 100% only has 15%? If so, what's the reasoning behind these values.

    5. When do you expect this to go live.

    6. At what point do you think you will be ready balancing out the characters.

    7. Any words for those that feel they've been paying to beta test a game that will never be finished?
  15. [ QUOTE ]
With Enhancement Diversification comes a benefit for ALL City of Heroes powers.

Every power, across the board, is getting a 13.33% reduction in its Endurance cost.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I hope this is just your first post of many to come today. I don't want a cookie i want an explanation. Also this cookie tastes a bit stale, for a couple of reasons: it only adresses one issue people have with ED, namely endureance, it does nothing to relieve the problems with passives. Also you just made one type of enhancement less usefull and thus less interesting to diversify into.

Bah normally I wouldn't be this critical of a post a dev made but I'm fresh out of patience.
  16. Yar! this be a good day fer Swashbucklin' indeed.
Bartender give yonder man in the red 'n blue garb some grog!

And te all ye who be sayin' purps be solvin' swasbucklin' debuff I give that yellows be solvin' swashbucklin'.

Smooth sailings and clear skies te all ye none the less.
