For those that played WoW you know who Leeroy Jenkins is. Guess who he works for. yep Arachnos. 2nd the guy is an idiot, about as much an idiot as that woman whos name escapes me that works in Atlas MAGI that lost every single magic item to the CoT, and the hero had to go retrieve it. Sometimes just 2 missions later.
For those that don't know Leeroy Jenkins, well do a search on WoW Leeroy and you will find a nice little movie about idiots in MMO games.

Acctualy, he isn't the famous Leeroy Jenkins. He's acctualy just Jenkins and was spawned from a thread where someone wished you could work your way up the Crimal ladder by working for each gang and it turned into a thread of jokes where a criminal, a first called you and was later named Jenkins. He worked for every gang and inevitably quit them or gave his two weak notice. In a patch the Devs renamed the Wolf Spider at the end of Breakout Jenkins as a response to that thread, alot like the Kill Skuls badge.

I also assumed that the Jenkins thread was based on the Jenkins in the tutorial (and beyond). It surprised me that not only did Jenkins not get "severely reprimanded" for his screwup in the Zig Breakout, he actually got promoted.

The fact that it was staged doesn't make it any less funnier for me. I mean, heck, sitcoms are staged and they can be pretty funny.
For the uninitiated:
The movie that spawned the internet phenomenon: LEEROY JENKINS!
A straight cut to the funny part for those who don't have the patience to wait for the movie stream.
Ohmtown is the best NPC ever. I love that guy.
They should add a new level 50 Story Arc in I7 where you help him beat up Dreck for leadership of the Freakshow. Or add him as a contact. Or something.
Either way, I demand more Ohmtown!
Positron, you're really not in a position to know what you did or why. Please stop polluting this thread with your silly personal theories about why the devs put a character in the game or didn't. Obviously, you have no idea what the devs are thinking. Plus you are not in full posession of the facts.
I hate it when people post in these threads claiming that they know why something is the way it is when they clearly couldn't *possibly* know one way or the other.
I'd correct you and tell you the *real* reason that Positron put Jenkins in the game, Positron, but I just don't have that kind of time to spend clearing up your spurious claims.

So I hear the person who made the vid got banned from WoW for making racist comments in game. I went to the forum for his guild and it is full of racist posts. His avatar on the site is a black guy with a bucket of chicken.

I originally thought that the number crunching thing was just some sort of "in" joke they had. Just a group of friend's joking about just how hard the damn thing is to do.
And Leroy's stupidity was completely believable. Never underestimate the power or severity of stupid.
It's too bad that the Leroy Jenkins guy couldn't come up with an original name and had to use that one in order to make fun of someone else. *chuckle*

The recorded dialogue was clearly scripted, but I always theorized that the actual gameplay was real, that the guy was just filming a normal instance raid (without sound, since a player normally doesn't record that), that Leeroy really did act that dumb, his guildmates really did try to save him and got wiped, and then later they decided it was funny enough that they went back and reenacted their dialogue (unconvincingly) for recording. I don't have any first hand information, but I guessed that high level players wouldn't sacrifice that much item decay for the sake of making an artificial film that could have been done more 'cinematically' (we don't get to watch Leeroy die, for example). The visuals struck me as much more realistic than the recorded dialogue - it really does look like a guy panicking as his team gets wiped.

A lot of evidence suggests that the whole thing is a fake, or at least several of the players are 'in on it'. The most significant evidence is that a lot of the equipment worn in that movie either comes from later in UBRS, including a few pieces Leeroy himself is wearing. Those players knew what was in that room, and would certainly know better than to join him rather than just have him run his [censored] back to the instance.
This event was the equivilant of a HO'd player running into running face first into the Monster Isle off portal corp.
Add in that late-game raiders were regularly dropping in 100% repairs EVERY raid (my Druid ended up doing so three times during one run just through the first six bosses in MC), a comparative weak hit isn't that bad or that expensive. It's not like you're going to buy anything but Arcane Crystals and Elemental Fire at that point, and the market only has so much to start with (particularly compared to the amount of molah you make doing a prep run or two through Dire Maul for buffs).
That said, yes, there probably were situations like the Leeroy Jenkins event that happened without scripting.

Actually, Unearthed Films just released it on DVD in the U.S.. I bought my copy a few days ago.

Back in the day, you could actually order a VHS copy from Nelvana. It cost $85 US or $115 Can. They had a tiny, but steady demand, so they pulled a transfer from a master every time they managed to ship a copy.
20 years ago (*wince*) my parents never understood my need for $85 for a video tape they had never heard of, and by the time I was in a position to order for myself, Nelvana would no longer ship it. I'm quite happy I finally managed to get a copy.
