Why did the Rikti originally attack? What happened to Hero 1? Etc, etc. Plus, as pervasive as they are in terms of story (Lost, Rikti, RCS, invasion, etc.) there are no AV's for them yet.
[/ QUOTE ]
And no loosely associated monsters like some groups have. I have really wanted to see a Rikti AV and/or monster. -
I would love to see a 'come (back) for the loot, stay for the game'... loot that helps define a character or allows for a fun activity but doesn't make you a better fighter. Or perhaps loot acquired abilities turn off for PvP. Loot that is attractive and attract loot lovers. It is bait for that set of players. They'll stay for the game.
I can say I would like to see some non-game breaking loot. Flavor.. costumes, bobbles... nothing that effects DPS but enriches the experience.. perhaps loot like keys that break open missions... rewards that are very temporary...
We talk about bases. I use it to temporarily hold enhancements that are earned beyond my level to use, and I stock about 3 storage containers full of inspirations so I can med bay back there and re-fill on inspirations for difficult missions... Sounds like I'm creating my own loot system. It is loot that doesn't break the game. Give us more of that, but with a bit more fun or decor to it.
I have never been in or ever plan to play WoW or Diablo. I did play Neverwinter and I loved the loot. I have put a lot of time in CoX and like it a lot without loot. I don't think that means I'm entitled to loot, but I think it is ok to ask for and I'm not ashamed too. Especially the kind of loot I'm asking for. -
[ QUOTE ]
I believe it stems from fantasy MMORPGs (or MUDs even) when a player's weapon would be reduced in effectiveness in an effort to balance the game.
It comes from the phrase "You turned my sword into a nerf bat".
Thus "nerfing" something became synonymous with making something weaker.
"Hit with the nerf bat" is a derivitive, but still sees its origin in the original 'sword' phrase, and can be applied to systems outside of the normal weapon and loot ones.
Personally, I hate the word, and try never to use it when talking about the game to players. It carries a very negative stigma that I like to avoid whenever possible.
[/ QUOTE ]
You forgive me for using 'nerf' and I'll forgive you and yours for using the term 'diversification' -
I'm going to join in on the question fray #1 because I truly am curious about something and #2, I noticed how i was so way off topic on my last post I thought I should make it up by having one with some related substance.
Issue releases. Last release was very tilted towards Villains for obvious reasons, to make up the missing gaps like Issue 2 did for Heroes when it was the only game out. I have a 'feeling' that the next release will tilt back more towards the heroes to make up for a low amount of new content for heroes in I7 (at least low amount of PvE content for sure) which I agree with and look forward too, however I am curious if Issue 9 and beyond will have a more even keel content for both sides or if the 'make it up to the other side' game will continually have to be played. Or is Issue 8 going to be the great equalizer. x1.5 content for heroes and x1 more content villains? If the latter is true, will this take a longer amount of time to release? I know Stateman is saying "Ack, No!" to 8 months like last time but realistically, what are the projections (holding no feet to fire)?

Yes, that was just Candyman. The reference I was making was to an urban legend in the Chicago-land area concerning a figure named Bloody Mary. -Shivers.- Scary stuff when you're a kid.
But that Nerf bat man...

I think I saw an episode of Supernatural about Bloody Mary. I really don't like that show but my wife will watch it and sometimes I can't help myself and want to see if the ep is based on some cool old lore. Which that time it was and wasn't too bad. -

NOTE: You can only earn the The Lord Recluse Strike Force reward once every *24 hours* This is by design to help prevent farming.
[/ QUOTE ]
Meh...kinda dumb. If peeps want to sit and run the TF 6 times a day, why not let them?
[/ QUOTE ]
I thought you could run the TF as much as you want but not be rewarded the HO equivalent but once every 24 hours. That might have been what you meant.
Either way I have been thinking about this and how it balances with Hammi.
If all factors were absolutely perfect, you could generate more HOs for heroes faster than villains server wide per day, however on the Villain side, team make ups and recruitment time to do a 6 hour SF *should* be much faster. So with multiple copies of the SF going at the same time at all hours of the night, the Villains may, in a practical gaming world, have an easier time to generate more HOs per day server wide. I wouldn't mind being able to choose your HO at the end to help make up for less "farming" and less people to trade with on the spot at the end.
Just a curious question, let's say I completed this Recluse SF at 6pm on the 20th and received my Recluse reward, then decided I wanted to do another just to get my hands on a 2nd quick HO since I loved the first so much. Can I start my next Relcuse SF at 8pm the 20th but wait to finish it up the last mission at 6:09 pm on the 21st to insure that I get my HO? or do I have to wait 24 hours before even starting the next Recluse SF to insure my reward? -
I don't think we would be too picky on the physics of it. So make it a big red ball enemy, that has 100% damage resistance, and has no knock back resistance. I realize that those without KB powers would be left out but if you *really* wanted to play with the ball, you could take Kick and have a 1 and 4 chance of making it move.

Please learn to link in a reader-friendly, Dumb_2099. It's a little irritating to have have to scroll left to right to read posts when you link like that unnecessarily. Here's what the link should look like:

Frankly, the posters shouldn't have to even put a link (offensive to scrolling or not) to defend. The statement was accurate but that has already been covered.
Man, I think I'm just grumpy or something. Oh well, whatever. -

Folks, we've never seen an Issue expansion drop on live prior to a major holiday weekend. Cuppa's announcment really shouldn't really be a surprise to anyone, should it? If anything be glad, that they *tried* to get it out in time for the holiday, and give 'em credit for having good sense not to push a flawed product out over a holiday weekend (imagine the chaos!).
The flip side is folks can play it on Test in the meanwhile. So it's not really a big loss.
Thanks Cuppa, we can deal.
[/ QUOTE ]
Your point is fine however I personally won't give them any credit for craftsmanship until it is released on Live Servers and is 95% flawless. At this point I just can't be generous in advance anymore. It isn't fair to players and it really isn't fair to Developers. Motivation to 'hurry it up' is a fact of business life. Most jobs I deal with have hot hot hot deadlines because money and happy customers are on the line. This is no different. AND that is no threat. I don't feel slighted just yet, I am pointing out a fact of business life. Threatening to quit does nothing to help but we can take breaks and not play for a few months while we wait for issues. It is there best interest to release quick.
Honestly, I keep thinking of and feeling bad for the people that decided to not go for CoV, just CoH and were told that issues would continue to release for the Hero side as well. In truth I7 does add content for the Hero side but not a whole lot if you aren't big into PvP.
I don't know how it could have been handled any better though. The villains did need the level raise and the added content to go with it. I really hope that a small, very quickly implemented issue is released that is heavily focused on heroes in the very near future. -
[ QUOTE ]
Just thought I'd add this story from the meet & greet that Posi told us:
My wife was commenting how she like to watch her character's posterior (she has a female character ironically - she's jelous of her avatar's figure). Matt used to work for Eidos back when they were developing Tomb Raider. Ironically, the reason why the main character for Tomb Raider is a shapely woman is apparently for the same reason. When your demograph are males ages 16-40, and they have to play most of the game looking at a character's backside the whole game, what kind of backside do you suppose they would like the most?

Whoa, whoa, whoa. Liquid. I have to greatly dissagree with you here. Most people have 1 character they dedicate to badge collecting. Now replay value aside. Your saying that those people should not be able to earn badges outside of missions that our theirs?! Forget that.
There is nothing wrong with the replay value of the game. Playing this game thru as a scrapper is vastly different then playing it thru as a blaster. /End Hijack
[/ QUOTE ]
Yes, I am saying that. Especially since then the Dev's would be able to implement Badges where you could only earn one or the other, thus helping individualize the different characters by showcasing what paths they have taken through "life".
[/ QUOTE ]
For that to work I think that badges would actually have to unlock costume items, weapons, powers or something to really reflect your travels. Something to truly display your 'life's work'. Decorative base items or decorative 'powers'. If badges were made that *important* restrictions should apply but beyond that... this almost sounds like a loot system and honestly, missing something you could never go back to, that does indeed seems to be just not fun. Text over and under your name just isn't good enough. I realize people can get info on each other. I've tried to sift through their badge lists but it is really hard to be impressed with reading a list. -

But now, a twist on it. What about if I don't have, like, a t-shirt press myself, and so commission a single-item run from someplace like CafePress or something?
[/ QUOTE ]
Won't work. CafePress makes a profit on every item they sell, even if you do not.
Summary: CP sells a shirt for, say, $12 base price. If you sell it for $12 that means you make no profit. Good! But CafePress DOES make a profit; they set the base price up so that they do and anything beyond that is for you alone.
So, it's not legal, since of the two parties involved, CP does profit. CP has a policy against using copyrighted elements in your designs for this reason.
[/ QUOTE ]
Oh baloney. If I hire a third party decal/T-shirt entity to silkscreen a copy of my favorite screen shot of my hero onto a T-shirt I've already bought separately, I see no copyright infringement or violation of the EULA as long as I do not intend to sell it for profit, and have retained the original screenshot for my private, not-for-profit archives.
Otherwise, where do you draw the line? I can screenshot all day and print my screenshots and post them all over my house for my personal use anytime I want. I can make demo movies all day and display them for CoX-night LAN parties as long as I am not profiting from it.
[/ QUOTE ]
The only reason you get away with the decal scenerio is because (for example) you printed your own heat transfer on your home printer and your shirt pressing company doesn't recognize it as copyright material. For all they know you used a design tool to create that picture and bring it to them. Actually you are placing the decal applying T-shirt place at risk along with yourself.
yes you can get away with it but by the letter of the law you are breaking it.
I've been in Commercial Arts/Graphic Design for 15 years (not as long as some but long enough to see people get burned) and frankly I still don't understand copyright law beyond what I have to know to do my job. It is screwy so you have to walk carefully. I don't agree with all the concepts I'm just telling you it doesn't seem very logical and you can be in violation of a law like that *snaps fingers*. However, I will say that a lot of it is in place to protect the artists or "creatives" if you want to use that term and that is a good thing, even if it is a little much.
If money or services are exchanged in reguards to the artwork you put up a red flag. Actually it is a bit more restricted than that but most people ignor it because they will not be noticed or pursued. That is your own ethical choice to make.
You may be able to purchase the equipment to do it all yourself and not be noticed, however if you are leasing a Canon or Xerox copier (and many others) and copying it onto heat transfer decal material, then you purchase a heat T-shirt press and press it on yourself, you STILL may be in violation of the lease with the copy company you lease the copier from because they do not want to be legally liable for copies made on their leased machine. This may even be true with equipment you purchase. You can buy a $250,000 color copies for your home, but just because you own it doesn't mean you can copy your $20 bills on it even as a joke. CoX screen caps may not be a Federal offense but it still may be an offense. ((I know I know, extreme but...))
I could go on but it just keeps getting crazier. Don't even get me started on who owns graphic design layout ideas the company who hired the designer or the designer themselves...
EDIT: had to add a 'not' to make something make sense -

[ QUOTE ]
I agree with what UberGuy said.
Too often people think of pool powers only in relation to specific ATs (or even subsets of ATs) rather than all ATs.
Aid Self is not overpowered on my fire blaster that has it. It's a tool that helps him survive and must be used within the limits described above. He has nothing else to fall back on when solo, save for respites, unlike many (but not all) melee characters who may already have a self-heal.
On the other hand, my ice blaster does not use Aid Self because he uses his holds to help mitigate damage in a way that the fire blaster can't.
The system works. Let's leave it as is, please.
[/ QUOTE ]
Now give your Ice Blaster Aid Self. Is that now balanced in comparison to your Fire Blaster?
Shouldn't the Fire Blaster be given some benefit such that taking Aid Self isn't required to bring him on par with the Ice Blaster?
[/ QUOTE ]
I really do see what you are getting at but I still have my doubts.
I woudln't think the ice blaster is that simple. What 2 powers does the Ice Blaster give up to take the healing path? 1 of those holds that mitigate damage? Or a nice damage attack that mitigate damage by making the damage dealing bad guy go away faster? Ice patch.. hard to give that damage mitigation up I would thinkThe Ice blaster may want 4 other power pools to pull of their design making Med hard to fit in.
I do use it on my Invul Brute (which makes my opinion biased I'm sure) for in-between fight heals and it is very nice for that while soloing. I took it to fill some major defense holes that my invlul tank had post I5-ish, post ED, etc. etc.
While in team.. I hardly touch it because I'm normally interrupted. It seems to be a feast or famine power to me. It certainly is a power I consider "a good power". I really hate seeing good power smashed into bad powers in the name of balance. Balance always seems to tip it more towards the side of too much just so they don't have to nerf again. -

Individual letters as wall hangings/signs
Originally suggested by: me
Category: Wall decoration

Type: purchased
Description: Square shaped signs with a capital letter in each one. All letters of the alphabet plus numbers 0 through 9. That way we can spell stuff on the walls. Like over Zone TPers.. We could spell "ST M" and know that goes to St. Martial as one weak example.
Limitations: wall placement
[/ QUOTE ]
Probably *not* going to happen. Too much chance of people spelling out inappropriate items.
Might be why we don't have SG Emblams to put on the wall too, now that I think of it.
[/ QUOTE ]
Given a large enough room and time I can spell out inappropriate words with items on the floor or wall with what is already in the editor (in fact I'm spelling out Zone abbr.'s now as Zone TP guides). And bases aren't in the general public view. If the Overlord gives someone permissions, she/he can take them away, and if the Overlord him/herself did it and has given no edit permission to other members who could then delete the word, well, that is the only loop hole and I'm not sure that SG/VG will exist.
I was under the impression that the OP intended this thread to make a 'wish' list. As long as we kept to format and it was within some reason, we could post it. So if you don't agree, that is fine, then don't support the suggestion, but I would prefer not to see mine or other people's ideas torpedoed. You can PM me, and tell me my post is inappropriate, or as the OP to weigh in on it via PM. -
Return to base transporter
Originally suggested by: me as far as I know

Type: crafted
Description: Creates a permanent click power for all SG members so they can TP back to base. Would add more value to having zone TPers
Limitations: there would have to be at least a 15 second count down before you port so this can't be abused as a way to avoid dying in PvP or PvE. -

(NOTE: I know there are items that can kind of mimic this but just a length of rail to keep people from falling off a raised platform would be nice.) -
heh.... I've seen this discussion or dare I say argument, on this forum probably 11 or 12 times now in casual forum browsing concerning many aspects of this game. Expectations, rights, economics, "quit if you don't like it".
Repeatedly the developers have asked for feedback on the forum. As long as it is feedback delivered in a respectful manner, even if what is asked is not possible, it is still ok to ask for change. Our group of 4 is actually maintaining a respectable non-raidable base. We do wish we had quite a few more things. Here is my ultimate reason why I think they are deserved us. By the best of my calculations, at least 1 of us if not all of us will make it to 50 with our mains and we will still not have access to serveral items in the base. If our SG/VG membership had not made so many alts we would all easily be 40 by now, with the same incomplete base.
We wouldn't mind reasonably waiting till low 40s to get all the basics in the base, but when we see that we will probably hit the end game and still not have our goals met, then it is hard to be patient for something we will never get. All 4 of us agree we like our small group and really at this point, even if one of us desired a raidable SG, we wouldn't leave the others behind. So our "moral" choice in essence has us stuck.
As to the poster concerned for our society. Going into this game with our friend group in mind, we thought 4 or 5 members could make a nice base. We find out we can't, but we feel obligated to stay committed to our friends. So that being said, what is the answer? Abandon our friends for a larger SG? Abandon the game to spend money elsewhere which also causes us to abandon our friends (as related to the game, not ending friendships here)?
I figure the socially right thing to do is voice our grievances, to the devs where the the devs have asked us to, and see if we can affect change before giving up.
So if that isn't hard work and socially healthy, thoughtful and/or considerate, I don't know what is. -
[ QUOTE ]
Ours is a minimalistic base - one room! One thing I'd like to change is the portal, it's kinda huge when you're going just for a lounge area in a tiny supergroup (3 or 4 weekend warriors, mostly).
We do however have a small study area in one corner, complete with refreshments (ok, one refreshment).
In the other corner is the planning area - a couch sufficient enough for all 4 SG membersand a chair for a guest. There's even a balcony for VIPs, and a minifridge is provided as well.
The opposite corner is the relaxation area (no pets allowed, please walk them outside the base.
The final corner is dedicated to the ah, facilities. They are surrounded by bookshelves for obvious reasonsYou can see it in this base overview shot.
All items are stock, of course. We did notice a dearth of coffee tables and regular fridges, please remedy this lack
