Ah, so it's THAT Black Stream!

... and all sorts of pieces suddenly fall into place.

*click*...*clack...

*snap* *Clack* *crack*

QUICKLY! Who/What is the blood of the Nile!

That is the answer!

a god? a hero? a monster? tear open the egyptian mythology to find out!

[/ QUOTE ]

Thats what it sounds like. Do a trial where you go into an egyptian'y pyramid/tomb. Defeat something. Free the spirit of some kind of "thing" and unlock Blood of the Black Stream Epic AT and go from there.

Ok so let me get this right. The winner wasn't chosen because his costume was good or because his story was original. They just wanted an agyptian costume and a character of egyptian origin to add this little snippet of information about the BotBS which is part of the card game.

That seems rather unfair since they didn't say that they wanted egyptian characters and it ruled out the chance of Kheldians chaacters being viable. If I'd know that I wouldn't have sent in my Warshade.

And no offense intended to the person who won but that costume is utterly terrible, dull in the extreme.

[/ QUOTE ]

The character was chosen because we liked the background *and* the costume. I had the idea to tie him in to the Blood after he was chosen.

[/ QUOTE ]

Manticore, I think what some people are getting at is that a winner was picked that best suited the decision making team's purpose, instead of truly the best entry - or that's at least what I'm getting from the posts.

Grats to the winner though.

And finnaly we now have info on ALL the new Epic ATs... now we just need...

I think the winning costume is great, very suitable to the origin. And the origin is also really interesting.

Congrats to the winner and good job Manticore on spotting an opportunity for a hint

Well...judging is always subjective, but...

Anyone familiar with Jack "Statesman" Emmert's work knows that he seriously likes Egyptian mythology. In Children o' the Atom, a book he co-wrote, an Egyptian-flavored character class was added to a post-apopalyptic, Western tabletop RPG. One of the "demo" characters for CoH drew from Egyptian mythos, as well. It even seems CoH is getting an Egyptian zone (in or near Rhode Island, no less).

...I just wish I knew beforehand that not having an Egyptian character would negatively impact my chances at winning this contest...

What might be helpful now is some insight into the judging system. For instance, were entrants supposed to submit a picture? My memory may be flawed, but I don't recall that being mentioned. Who were the judges? Were they picking something they could use with canon for canon's sake?

Crying sour grapes,
Vulpy

(Edited to clarify expectations.)

Perhaps we will get to visit the Paragon city Natural history museum. In stopping a theft, you open or click upon a item and you and your team are transported back to Egypt!!!

Blood of the Nile?

The link's a bit biased but it does specifically mention the Blood of the 'Black Stream', or the Nile, in Biblical mythology.

Now if only I had been less tired and thought of linking to the "Nile turns to blood" stuff.

Since when is making a negative comment about someones style of character intended to be personal attack? I don't know the guy, nor do I have any intention to make personal insults. But I'm shocked that a costume that just black stone with arm and foot wraps and a belt which doesn't fit the theme (in my opinion) was seen as better than other entries. If that costume was in a costume contest in Atlas Park it'd certainly not stand out in the slightest.

For what it's worth, I agree completely. It's almost the default character creator male model. I suspect the story may have had the lions share of influence when this choice was made.

As an ultimately subjective choice, there can be nothing proven to be quantitatively wrong with that. Though it does cause some of us to scratch our heads.

Hi fellow players. I am the person who won the CCG contest.

If I might enlighten some of you to a few points:

1. The winner was chosen SOLELY on story, they didn't even get to see a picture of my character until after they had decided the winner.

2. They (the AEG editors) added the Blood of the Black Stream to the story as you see it posted on the AEG website, I had just listed that "the Pharoah's enemies" and not a specific villain group.

3. The fact that they were able to tie it into a specific villain group they will be adding is NOT the reason they chose the winner. As for some people saying "oh that leaves xxx AT out". That is 100% untrue, had they chosen some Pirate themed hero, they may have added the Red Hand (or whatever the ghost pirates in CoV are called) in the same place in their background story.

In-fact, I am pretty certain they would have added a villain group to ANYONES story had the writer left some leeway for the editors to make tweaks and adjustments to their story. I am pretty sure that was something they took into consideration since all signature heroes need to have an arch-enemy or opposing villain group.

I am sorry that some people feel slighted by AEG's choice in my story. There is no way they could have chosen anyone in the game without someone feeling that they had been looked over as always happens with contests.

Finally, they chose my 3rd costume option as it was my "newest" aka my L30 costume. I have 2 others that I feel look better and they may eventually post those. The artwork for the card will almost certainly not be representative of that pic/costume.

Be safe and have fun heroes!

Thanks for taking the statements in the light they were intended. You could have quite easily burned the thread to the ground with irate flames.

Congratulations on winning!

Nice story btw. Good job.

Does make me wish I had entered my Red Nile character instead of a different alt, since her background's tied into being born when the Nile ran red. Ah well, hindsight is 20/20. At least it wasn't Xanatos. *grins*

Congrats on winning!
