Rumor Control: Stores aren't going anywhere
Okay Statesman, thanks.
...Now what else can I find to whine about based upon a hint turned into made up fact? Hmm...
Thanks for clearing that up States, there was definitely a lot of mixed uproar.
Interesting concept for the contacts stuff. Of course the solo'r would complain :P Making them interact with the rest of the community - what are you thinking
Course, I am happy stores are staying.

What I said at Origins was...
I liked our first design for stores - where Contacts sold a limited amount of certain Enhancements to each hero. That way a choice of Contacts meant something. You might get a Contact who has stuff I want and vice versa - and thus we purchase the Enhancements and trade them. Plus, we could link the Enhancement types to the background of the Contact. Another big plus.
But, we didn't have the time to do that - so we defaulted to one stop shopping at set locations. That's not quite as "cool" in my opinion, but it's what we've got for now. Until some other system comes along, stores are here for now. So Stores will be here for I5, CoV and beyond.

How dare you clear up a rumor before I've had a chance to overreact suitably! Please, check with me next time before quelling a misconception. I mean it's only polite to make sure I've been notified and have sufficiently jumped to conclusions and flipped out!
I did say one other thing - that dropped Enhancements are useful only for what you can sell them for - because everyone purchases their Enhancements at the store (or at least most of them).

Not true, I often slot enhancements I have gotten from a drop. I would rather run lots of missions and spend time playing the game than shopping and making sure my enh are always green.
I also give away SO's to people on my team who are the same origin all the time .

I remember back in the day though, I use to trade DOs in my team all the times. In between battles, "I got a attack Mutation/Science. any have Natural?" Now many people have friends or high level mains that give them infl.
Works that way for me. I slot what I can use whenever I get a nice drop, but generally it's all from the store. Especially considering that most of the possible enhancement drops (and so the drops you tend to actually get, though depending on which group you're fighting) aren't your origin.
Most of the time, I sell. I don't consider it a bad part of the game, because it works, but it is a little less heroic than one might imagine. I don't think that justifies a change.

Ditto. Also, aside from normal missions, doing TFs is a goldmine for drops that I can use. Between what I get and what I can trade with my teammates, sometimes I don't need to shop at the store for quite awhile.
The only issue I have with dropped enhancments is that you recieve way too many training enhancments at high levels. Those typically wind up as "influence only" enhancements since I usually can't use them, and nobody wants them.

That's true, mainly because drops rarely give you what you need.
I like it this way. I like being able to decide how I want to slot my powers, and then being able to conveniently acquire the appropriate enhancements. I don't want to be dependant on drops.
Besides, the stores are nice. We need more buildings we can go into and use. Not less.

Also in high levels, influence pretty much means nothing. I never had influence trouble after level 35. In high levels I don't even look at my enhancement drops.

Well, one reason for not slotting drops is the randomness of drops, I've seen a total of like 6 recovery increase enhancers on my blaster from 1-50 in drops, and only one of those was usable by my character. Also some characters are not able to harvest the drops they need from certain enemies because of weaknesses or resists.
The fact that I have to fight 2+ minimum to get anything green is another factor, it was much easier to just get store bought enhancements then try to take on oranges and reds with my blaster.
And Story wise the stores do make sense, local busnesses make gear for heroes, the heroes endorce the store (giving them "influance") and the stores make more money from the civies that go to X store because Hero Y shops there.

So cynical States... Some of us do hand them out to our teammates. They make nice gifts for lowbies too
Don't forget that if they remove training enhancements the drop from an SO or DO are going to become extremely rare as a way to keep the balance in the game.

First let me say that I am glad they aren't going anywhere. I kind of agree with you that stores aren't quite as cool as a contact giving them away, but as is contacts are massivly flawed. As are drops.
That brings me to the main point of repying to THIS post. Drops are valuable to me to an extent. When I actualy get something I can use I will use it happily and carefully. When I get it that is. On my main(a natrual origin) I got 3 non training enhanments that I could actualy use between the levels 20 and her current 34. I am dead serious, and I am not exagerating. I didn't even get a dual origin that was usable by natruals! When I got anything other than TRAINING enhancers that is.
Darn it! I sooooo wanted to jump on the "Doooommm" bandwagon. This seemed the perfect time to do it, too.

I sense a disturbance in the world. It's like a thousand flamers were suddenly deprived of their ficitonal reason to be angry. I kind of like it. Thanks Statesman!
Wow! Stateman spoke... twice! Um... Doom?
Instead of stores spread out all over they should make a mall. It could be like atlas town hall with all the different stores, an Icon, and special missions. I could see one store being down for a day because a shipment was stolen and they cant sell again until some one recovers the goods. As a reward you could get like 10% off the enhancements if you were part of the team that finished the mission first.
